    Reading the various threads on the single channel LoRa gateway, appears TTN prefers to NOT support single channel. They recommend deploying multi-channel versions, though they may make some accommodation in time.
    So, here's the question: Is it possible to adapt the "cheap" gateway to make it multi-channel capable?

    Hi, i have a question, why do u use Raspeberry for the gateway? I´ve watched many videos in internet about the "Gateway" and all of them use rasp or Dragino technology... is it for something special? i was thinking about using ESP32 maybe, but idk

      Most current LoRa gateways use 8 channel chips and I do not know of an ESP32 software that supports this setup.

    Excellent video, I was wondering what's special about that HAT apart from the adaptability for the raspberry? As shown in minute 1:45 I see that it is possible to make the Gateway only using the raspberry with a LoRa module, in my case I have the LORA 433MHz E220-400T30D - LLCC68... am i right?

    Andreas, Do you know what the frequencies for LoRa in the US are? (915 MHz band)
    Also, will the gateway support the new SX1280 on 2.4 GHz?

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  6 лет назад

      1. LoRa is on 915 in the US
      2. The gateways only support one frequency range.

    Hi Andreas, I've been thinking about putting some sort of "car alarm" system together. I would work with a notification system via cellular. Except that I often park my car in remote area while I go fishing. These areas do not have cellular coverage at all. So I am thinking that LoRa might be a good fit?
    Unless there's something better out there for this specific use case? I am just expecting to receive message alerts with the sensors being triggered by the security system. (No need for large amount of data like video or images)

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  4 года назад

      I made some videos about the capabilities of LoRa. So you have to decide if it fits your use case. Draw once the whole system end-to-end on a sheet of paper. Then you see al the problems you have to solve and where LoRa fits in.

    Hello Andreas,
    Reading the comment threads below, it seems RPi Single Channel Gateways are no longer supported by TTN since it does not have downlink capabilities.
    I was actually about to begin the tutorial in this video. I have all the hardware requirements until I came across the comments and the forum at TTN below (from Jeff Davis')

    Hello Mr. Spiess and thank you for your videos,
    at 7:51 you speak about disabling frequency hopping. For me it is unclear, where this has to be done. In the Sensor? Per downling message? Please help / thank you.
    Roger

    • @AndreasSpiess
      @AndreasSpiess  Год назад

      It has to be done in the sensor because the single-channel gateways only listen to one frequency.
      This is an old video, and I am not sure if single-channel gateways still are supported by TTN.

      @@AndreasSpiess Thank you.
      Yes, they are still suported, and mine (done according your video) is working since approx. 2 weeks without problems.
      According your answer ("that has to be done on the sensor"), the sensors have to come back to my lab, because a downlink can not be established with this gateway and there is no coverage from another gateway at my location of operation.
      Greetings from Fricktal!

      Just read Jeff Davis' comment below. The Raspi/Lora hat gateways do no more work. I hope, they will find a solution.

      Just ordered a LoPy-PyCom board. Hope to have better luck with it. It already has a smart phone drag and drop type interface. Will have to check out issues with a single channel. I only need a single channel for this application. Gate Access to a facility where my customers only to access the gateway.

    Is it possible to have a gateway not connected to the TTN? Just process the messages on your private server?

      You can install the TTN backend on your servers if you want.
