    The dominance of N scale and passenger trains is an interesting contrast to what is found in the United States.

      I wonder if it's because generally Japanese homes are smaller? I moved into a flat a few years ago, and n-gauge is all I have room for now unless I want just a simple oval. I'm not mad, though, looking at the prices of O-gauge recently. N-gauge is definitely easier on the wallet.

      I live in the USA in a 3 bed 2 bath 1550 sq ft house by myself and I don't really have the room for an HO layout. I just got a Kato n scale starter kit and have it on a 3x5 foot piece of plywood. I'm having a blast with it. Most Americans don't have a full basement for a big HO layout--I think that n scale is great.

      Just to clarify, I didn't mean my comment as a negative observation. i find it refreshing to see someone taking a different approach. N Scale Dystopia, in Canada, likewise has focused on passenger operations. Diversity is good for the hobby.

    I have spent hours in the shop when I visited Japan. I too look forward to visiting again when I can visit Japan. The shop has so much variety. The display cabinets with all the models are really an excellent way to see what is available. I particularly liked the upstairs model layout and would love to see a plan of it.

      So glad you have been and known the Hobby Center Kato Tokyo! The new catalog only shows current models so it is good to see past models which are still sometimes available in the shop. Please come back Japan when the COVID's condition is better.

    It is a great showroom, lots of stock. Prices are full retail, but the spare parts and service is excellent. There is a ramen shop close to the subway line which has noodles and beer, both excellent. I make a point of shopping for Kato then lunch afterwards. I am waiting to fly back to Japan, damn this "Covid"!

      Thank you for your comment! So you have been the showroom before! I have also eaten in the same ramen shop before. Please come back Japan and come to see more models and take real trains!!

    Oh my, I know what I want to see when I next make it to Japan. Thank you so much for your guidance to get there.
    Is there a similar level of display for Tomix and other Japanese model railway manufacturers?

    Is this differerent from Katsumi (KTM) ? Are these Kato trains made of brass? Can they be fitted with DCC (Digital Command and Control) used in the US?

    • @ChrisSmith-nm8gb
      @ChrisSmith-nm8gb 2 года назад

      Here in the US we can buy them with decoders already installed.
