  • CATCHING GIANT FLORIDA SNOOK //
On this episode of Abenz Fishing we go back to our roots, back to my favorite thing in the world, fishing for giant snook. Snook fishing can be very tough for many reasons. Snook are some of the smartest fish in the world with a lot of variation on feeding habits and patterns. Today we hunted MONSTERS. Over 3 days we were able to make it happen.

100% agree, over the summer you catch a whole lot of overs, but in the winter when they are cold and lazy is when you catch the true massive fish.

When i first moved to Florida i lived right on the river in Jensen like three doors from Snook Nook. Had always seen guys on TV fishing flats skiffs or Bay Boats and mugging Snook!! It will be easy for me!! Uuuuumm nope!!! It took a couple years to even begin to figure that place out. Big Snook and Big Jacks didnt get big being stupid. Great stuff man you have that place dialed

@AbenzFishing yeah I remember looking at nice fish stacked under that first little bridge on Jensen Causeway and throwing at them for two hours and suddenly wham!! Catch one on five straight casts and just as quick they shut down again. When they are neutral you have to downsize and slow way down and even then it's not a guarantee. It took me a couple years to really figure them, The Tarpon and the big Jacks out.

Back in 2005 I caught a snook off the beach in Ft.Pierce in July that measured 53 inches, probably weighed 50 pounds, and for your viewers, take a trip to Juno beach pier in Jupiter Florida in mid spring, you will see literally hundreds of snook and tarpon in the crystal clear water. I was not fishing that day, just took a walk on the pier, but I am not exaggerating when I say that there were snook over 6 feet long just facing into the current in about 4 to 12 feet of water, they would not take anything, you could bounce a live bait off their heads and they wouldn't flinch, all I had was a crumby flip phone with me so the pics were terrible, but if you are in that area, you can see how massive these fish can get.

I will say 2 nights ago I had a heartbreak 60lb braid 80lb floro 7 circle hook 10” live mullet crushed with a 5 min fight that broke off at my feet and I watched a pb monster Snook swim away I’m guessing at least 10”12” tall
