I watched this 4-5 years ago and I just finished watching this episode, again. Man, this gets me every single time.... I just wanna share my thoughts with y'all. I shared my thoughts a few years ago but I might as well share my 2020 thoughts. So, when I first watched this, this really stabbed a sword through my chest. To me it's a simple S+ tier of an episode. So simple and perhaps predictable, yet I felt the sword twist and twist in my chest. I was really hoping that Lenka's sister at least would survive and is living safely somewhere else, when I first saw the family. But as the family died one by one, my hopes dwindled.... But that wasn't the reason why I felt so strongly for this anime. It was the simple bloody perfect execution of the events that led to Lenka joining Fenrir. When Lenka couldn't bear to leave his injured sister behind, I think I wasn't the only one who felt that way towards someone they love. But then, as some of the peeps already mentioned here, sometimes life gives you 2 choices and you can only pick 1. And when you simply can't pick 1 because you will lose the other (in Lenka's case, the 2 choices being either staying, perhaps try to carry, but ultimately die with his sister or he could follow his family's wish and survive), sometimes you don't get to choose at all, as the choices will be made for you, for better or worse. That was among the things that this anime reminded me. When Iroha found out that Lenka wouldn't leave her, they executed her grief, sadness, pain, subsequent happiness and acceptance so damn well and gracefully. That is how some people will react in real life if faced with a similar situation, no? I like to think that Iroha was really happy in the end that Lenka wouldn't leave her, and that she didn't want to mortally wound herself in front of her beloved brother. This anime/episode also reminded me that one doesn't really need to be blood related in order to be considered "family" with another. I've perhaps never seen an anime whereby in just a single episode, make me feel so much, as compared to the other episodes. The part where she said she picked his name, the reason why, and subsequent breakdown from Lenka was just too damn real..... Like seriously, that wail of agony from Lenka sounded so damn real, and if it were us, we would probably make a sound similar to what Lenka made. That really gets me. The facial expression to go with the wail was just too perfect also. I like to think that when Iroha saw that, she was made even more happy because it showed just how much Lenka loved her. What she said to Lenka next really impacted me when I first heard it.... Made me even more nihilistic because I was in an extremely bad shape back then. Yeah I know I may look like I'm simping for God Eater. Well, the game has a special place in my heart. When I saw that an anime about it was gonna be aired, I was so pumped. And yeah of course that helped me feel that "stab in your chest" sensation when I watched this episode. Literally never saw it coming because I expected an action packed, fanservice anime. Well, I got that, and more.... The transition from her impending death to what looks like Heaven also came to aid my thoughts that this is a S+ episode. Her being in Heaven and hugging Lenka, telling him that she loves him is perhaps the cream of the crop of this entire episode for me. And the dessert? Watching the Ogretails devour her while she died crying. I still really hope that she died feeling as little pain as possible. Finally, after listening to the ending song for like 8 episodes, I finally understood why that song sounded so poignant and sad yet hopeful at the same time. Though I didn't understand a word of it, the chorus, music and vocals really amplify that much more of the mood that us, the viewers, are supposed to feel. That's what I felt, anyways. This song is so damn fitting to the farewell and death scene, it's unbelievable. That final scream from Lenka before the story cuts to the present was the leftover meal, and boy did it sting just as hard. That scream right there, I think, is just what any one of us would sound like had we been in a similar situation whereby whatever we choose, we will, in a way, lose. I got the feeling that if Iroha didn't mortally wound herself, he would've stayed behind no matter what. Farewell once again, Iroha Utsugi. You'll always be in my Favourites list in MAL, and also will always be my MAL profile picture. I wish I had a sister like you. Until next time.
now I hate apocalyptic things and I realised how worst the life is to live in that situation and its hard when you have a family that time because you have to protect them and your always going to be worried about them instead if you don't care about them but not just to your family but to every person because there's an Aragami that will try to kill everyone, that makes me hate Fenrir knowing how selfish they are
My, at the time 12-year-old self, just went "WHAT THE FUCK" And darted out of my room crying for a hug from my mom. Next thing I know I wake up covered in blankets on my bed, My laptop that had Netflix going closed and on my dresser. My eyes still dry from the tears. That episode just aura rushes you with "hey you want to know depression!? And then you want to be an idiot thinking that Angel beats looks pretty fun to try and cope!? I know you dooooooooooo~!"
Couldn't have said it better. I felt that pain when she said I love you Lenka but I was happy as well because she looked so peaceful in his arms... R.I.P Iroha. I'd like to think that she and the rest of the family were rewarded for saving Lenka by going some place better with flowers and trees where they can live happily ever after.
She have a dream of bringing back beautiful flowers and trees into the world for everyone to see, even she had that ambition of making that dream come true, she was not selfish & she entrusted her hopes & dreams to someone who has a chance of saving the world. She gave up her own life even she wanted to live more to see what will the world become... They had not enough time to talk about the past, and she wasn’t able to tell him what she really felt because lenka really needed to run or else he’ll die. And that hurts... like really... this scene brought me to tears and it fucking hurts me that people sometimes have to choose between two things.. One of the saddest death scenes i’ve watched. Now i know the reason why Lenka is so eager to kill aragamis.

Iroha's dream was to see a flower garden it was such a modest dream yet it means the world for her. I legit cry while playing GE3 because they have finally succeed in replanting pot flowers. It took a long time but we are finally on the first step towards Iroha's flower garden dream. Your dream didn't end with you. You entrusted it to the next generation T^T

Can’t believe it passed under my radar for too long. ”数えきれない無数の魂が 大地と共に叫んでいるだけど そこからまた命は芽吹く" "Countless souls are screaming along with the earth but from there life will flourish" (Of all the suffering and agony on earth but mostly of how Lenka was crying and screaming from the mud and they heard him, the earth was "screaming") "聞こえる？小さな鼓動 感じる？確かな温度" "Can you feel it? A small palpitation Can you feel it? A certain warmth" Again pretty self explanatory, when they found Lenka in the mud crying and they can sense all his actions, his cry, his pulse, warm, drive to live "伝わる？託した思い すべては未来のため" "Can you tell? The entrusted thought? Everything is for the sake of the future" (In this part is Iroha's feelings towards Lenka at that time, he is a glimmering ray of hope, like a message left behind for a better future. Just like Iroha said on her final moments, he was left behind in the amongst the mud but for Iroha it was a lotus flower blooming in the mud, a miracle.

I just realised that the God Eater Main theme plays in the background for most of the song specially at 3:25, really gives it a noble feeling with some sadness to it as well as hopeful feeling just like this song is. It was a very well thought song with a strong stream of emotions attached to it, truly a Masterpiece.

Lenka isn't a "great" character but Yuu isn't even really a character so Lenka is better no contest. People just like Yuu because he's op and has a waifu, dude has the personality of cardboard

Her death made me genuinely hate Aragami. So much so that i played every mission in the games cause that's as close as i could get to eradicating them.
I have always loveeeeeeeeed to play games with post-apocalyptic settings but i would never ever want to live in it, God eater showed me how hard it is just to survived in it and also i am bad at choosing and decision making. This will always be my most favorite anime. 1000/10 i would recommend you to watch it if you haven't yet.
Not gonna lie the scene with her sister caught me off guard, i literally watching this while eating some chips. Than when the scene appeared plus with lenka yell out of sadness make me cry like a goat. Usually i am an emotionless rock, i cried only for some sad anime but mostly like the hot sad anime such as silent voice, i want to eat your pancreas or your lie in april doesnt make me cry. But this anime just make me cry out of nowhere. Its truly simple masterpieces of work. 9/10 kinda slow at first so i stop for 1 month than come back and saw the episode its amazing.
i watch lot of sad anime like koe no katachi, or lie in april even clannad and clannad after story, let me tell you the scene from that anime is pretty sad but nothing compared to iroha's death scene. man i feel kinda weird after more than 19 years without crying.

Not gonna lie the scene with her sister caught me off guard, i literally watching this while eating some chips. Than when the scene appeared plus with lenka yell out of sadness make me cry like a goat.
Usually i am an emotionless rock, i cried only for some sad anime but mostly like the hot sad anime such as silent voice, i want to eat your pancreas or your lie in april doesnt make me cry.
But this anime just make me cry out of nowhere. Its truly simple masterpieces of work.
9/10 kinda slow at first so i stop for 1 month than come back and saw the episode its amazing.

i watch lot of sad anime like koe no katachi, or lie in april even clannad and clannad after story, let me tell you the scene from that anime is pretty sad but nothing compared to iroha's death scene. man i feel kinda weird after more than 19 years without crying.
