  • In this video, we’re going to be making a set of wirelessly controlled animatronic eyes. I’ve been wanting to do this project for a while, so when Quantum Integration launched their new Motor & Servo Driver board, this project immediately came to mind.
    To enter the Quantum Integration giveaway, subscribe to my channel, like the video and leave a comment suggesting a tutorial or project for a future video. The winner will be chosen on the 27th of April, their comment will be pinned and the Starter Bundle, DIY Boards Set & Component Kit will be sent to them. The giveaway is open to participants in North America, the UK, the EU and Australia.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!
    I got something completely different from this video than it's intent but I am trying to make a glamrock freddy head and couldn't figure out a good system to make his eyeballs themselves go up and down as well as side to side. I was over complicating it and thinking of servos in another orientation when all it took was another servo just like the side to side except with strings up and down. I feel so dumb not thinking of that but so happy I figured it out through your video

    I've been working on a hand exoskeleton for the past couple of months and you could definitely use the quantum integration kit to control it. I've been using a rag-tag bunch of electronics that I scavanged from older projects but having a cohesive control set would make things easier.

      @@MichaelKlements Looks like a cool project, seems like a simplified version of the shadow robots.

    This project looks really fun! I am a huge fan of your Raspberry Pi cases and I think that a nice idea would be a short course on how to design a case to be 3D printed. If not a full explanation video, as it could get really long, how about one with tips for those who want to try and design a case themselves?

    Great video. Just a thought for the future. Maybe some small springs instead of the cotton thread. then you could use a ball bearing instead of the coupler. As for a future video, I am hoping that one day soon we will be able to use individually adressable LEDs. That would be a great video. An extra kit would be awesome. The kids fight over the one they have. Keep the videos coming!

      I actually ordered some realistic ones and then decided to go the 3D printed route so that it's a bit easier for others to replicate. I might put together a "short" with the realistic ones installed.

    You could bring those Eyes a Step further by having an AI with Face Recognition. The eyes could following the Person in front of it and may randomly blink.

    • @MichaelKlements

      That's a great idea. I thought about adding another sensor to them as well, like having them partially or fully close the eyelids if you shine a torch on them, or look towards the source of a sound.

    Looks nice, but since the servos use stepper motors the movement is choppy and unregular... not that good then.

    • @MichaelKlements
      @MichaelKlements  2 года назад

      They're not stepper motors, I think the choppy movement has to do with the way in which the information is transmitted to and from the server.
