The amount of people that don't understand that literature, and especially poems, contain a lot of symbolism and metaphors is truly concerning. No guys, Beyonce did not literally shove Bible pages up her lady parts. It's symbolic of her struggle with her marriage through religion, and there are a ton of other similar metaphors and symbolism in this poem.

I think we have all tried to change ourselves for men who we loved and some never loved us so we understand this feeling.
This part is very hard to listen to because it’s true! The Bible says don't judge, but that's exactly what you're doing. The poem talks about praying to God and doing what the Bible says. I do think the female poet is trying to tell women we shouldn't think of our menses as bad. Because the menses is a major life-giving force from God. Because it's how women get pregnant and provide protection from the baby in the womb. I would not be surprised if this is a reference to women having miscarriages and wanting to prevent them. Because metaphorically it's talking about being healed from within.

What's demented about it? I heard things in movies to how guys talk around other guys in real life, that is truly demented. the whole poem is never literal it’s fully of figurative devices….. she’s NOT actually seeing the devil not is she plugging her menses with pages from the Bible.. the whole poem is talking about her attempt to be perfect for “him” so that maybe just maybe he won’t go out and cheat anymore and only love her. The devil in question isn’t actually the biblical one, it’s the one we all should fear most nowadays especially when we’re in pain from love, ourselves turning into our own poison, hating ourselves and conforming to someone else’s standards to PLEASE THEM but hate and blame ourselves. The poem and the preceding and succeeding songs perfectly describe what many if not all partners feel when they find out they’re SO is cheating on them, sadness and despair but also anger and detest. The poem is strategically placed after the song “ pray you catch me” a song talking about she listens to and sees how her love of her life is slowly going astray. The point of using the holy book in the poem is to show how she thinks she’s impure and the Bible would hopefully “cleanse her or counteract her impurity”
