Is This The Real Voice Behind Google Assistant?

When you talk to Google, who are you really talking to? While the company has kept the secrets of Google Assistant’s voice under wraps, they’ve been much more open about who the omnipresent voice is meant to represent, and it gets weirdly specific in terms of where she’s from and what sports she enjoys.
Is there a real person behind all of those devices you talk to on a daily basis? Maybe. This is the real voice behind Google Assistant.

I'd like the voices on Google Assistant to sound totally human. I remember when software voice readers crossed the line between being unbearable, like I could stand them for only a short passage, to perfectly tolerable to read entire books to me. I listen to a lot of audiobooks read by actors and prefer a voice reader to about one-third of real people reading. Then there are audiobooks read by humans that are so good at it, they enhance the experience.

Thanks for pointing out that delicate balance between human and non! I'd wondered why certain phrasing never seemed quite right, even though it'd be trivial for them to make it sound perfect, e.g., when Maps gets me home after a long day, and the pause at the comma is twice as long as it "should" be when she says, "Welcome home,[,] David!"
