"No matter what anybody says, you'll always be a prince to me." The older I get the closer that line brings me to tears. Genie was willing to go back in the lamp for another 10,000 years in order to help his friend be happy, and Aladdin was willing to give up everything he wanted most to make sure Genie never had to experience that again. They are such an excellent portrayal of deep platonic love for your friends.
I do love how quickly and easily Jasmine plays along with Aladdin, realizing he's helping. She's a very quick thinker despite being sheltered. She's pretty quick to react and think on her feet. So there are two sequels, Return of Jafar which also served as the beginning of the tv series, and Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the third and final movie that has them actually getting married, Robin Williams returns as the Genie, and is honestly a fairly strong sequel.
As a kid I watched the third movie King of Thieves soooo much more than the original! As an adult I wouldn’t say it’s better than the first, but definitely a fun watch!
I know just what you mean. For some reason, we didn't have Return of Jafar on VHS either. We only had Aladdin and the third one. And yeah, Aladdin and the King of Thieves is weirdly not a bad end to the trilogy and is actually pretty okay.

Check out the Danish version dubbed by Preben Kristensen. He won the Disney award for the best vocal performance thrice - one of which was as Lumiere, another as Genie.
This is easily without a doubt one of my favorite and the best Disney Renaissance films, period. The animation, the music by Alan Menken, the late Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, the best protagonist and Disney princess in Aladdin & Jasmine, an incredible Disney Villain in Jafar, the incredible comedic performances of the late Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried as the Genie and Iago respectively and the film’s moral on "Be Yourself". Apparently 96%-98% of the Genie’s dialogue in the film was all improvised by Robin Williams with only _"No matter what anybody says, you'll always be a prince to me."_ being one of the few lines of dialogue not improvised by Williams. Also Gilbert Gottfried who voiced Iago also improvised some lines in one scene in the film when Iago contemplates while packing his luggage, Iago makes a quick comment about how he thinks he is making a weird face in the picture. Apparently that line was so funny that it even made Williams laughed.
I love the fact that although Genie wouldn't manipulate Jasmine's feelings per his rules, he was all for helping Al win her over. Dude is an absolute bro.
Rules say he can’t be a Cupid’s Arrow, nothing about being a Wingman though. ☺️☺️ I love how Genie keeps managing to find loopholes like accepting an unconscious “nod” as confirmation for the “save my life” wish.
The way you giggled with giddy delight when Jasmine called him out for who he really was after A Whole New World was such a vibe 😂 Nobody does a love story quite like Disney animation ❤️
I read that the opening scene with the street merchant was complete improv - Robin Williams was shown a table with a bunch of items on it, covered by a bedsheet. He was asked to take them out one by one and describe them in character. Apparently most of the material from that recording session was not usable for a Disney film 😅
Fun story; After Robin Williams' passing, I watched this movie again and, for some reason, when the genie is free, I started bawling my eyes out. The repeated, "I'm free! I'm history, no I'm mythology! I'm free!" Really got to me because all I could think about was how Williams was finally free from his long battle with depression. 😢 Still a very enjoyable film to this day. Holds up so well. My personal favorite Williams film. 😍
I tear up every time too. This is one of the earliest movies I ever remember watching and so much of my childhood was Robin Williams. I don’t think us Millennials will ever get over losing him 😢
Yes! I tear up too. After Robin passed, it was the film that really set me on a true grief experience. I felt anger, in how he felt so alone, I felt depression, and couldn't smile through his films that I'd loved for so long, I wanted the Genie to break rule number 3 and bring him back (bargaining). This line brought tears, as, for so long, it had been the happiest scene for me, now it's bittersweet. It and his voiceover at the end of "Mrs Doubtfire" is what helped me reach acceptance. "All my love to you poppet, you're going to be alright. Bye bye." Those last lines, I honestly believed, at one point, he was speaking right to me, helping me move on.
28:45 "They just jumped into Hercules." Fun fact, both Aladdin and Hercules had Disney TV shows and there was an episode of Hercules ( "Hercules and the Arabian Night" ) where they met due to their respective villains schemeing aginst them.
@@Kladyos Yes, because Disney has a priority of 100% historical accuracy in all their media. ^_^;; Far be it for them to make up stuff for the sake of storytelling. 😛
It was set up before the start of the story. The Cave of Wonders would make sure the only person who could find the lamp was the "diamond in the rough", a person who could resist temptation, a person willing to sacrifice obvious gain for something more meaningful than riches. In other words, it insured the only one who could get the lamp was exactly the kind of person who would free the Genie. Makes you wonder who put the lamp in there in the first place . . .
Man...I remember when Robin Williams' death was announced. I was working as a customer service agent for Comcast (I'm sorry), and it came over the news while I was talking to a customer. I had to put them on hold for a couple minutes to compose myself. He was and is the one celebrity I wish I could have met. GNU Robin Williams.
@@liljenborg2517Yeah, maybe the lamp was placed in the Cave of Wonders by someone who realized how dangerous the 3 wishes could be if anyone made them; So only a person with heart would have access to the cave: a diamond in the rough
Fun facts about the movie, Aladdin: Robin Williams actually refused to take the usually higher fee to bring him on, only accepting the same pay as the other less renowned actors. He wanted the rest of what would have been his check to go towards making the movie even better. He actually believed so much in the potential of the film that, as part of his contract, he requested that Disney keep his name, face, and voice out of any promotional material. That way, people would simply come to see the movie, rather than coming to see him in it. The only real downside is that Disney went back on their word and gave him top billing on posters, which was a huge part of why he didn’t return for the sequel.
I grew up with this movie. I also loved "Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest", in which Robin also plays a great character. I've loved him in every movie I've seen him in, but these two in particular hold a special place in my heart. In different parts, they just turned him loose and got to see what material he came up with. The man was a genius when it came to improv. It was so fun growing up in the 90s when so many of the big Disney movies were coming out.
I can’t watch this movie without thinking of “Twisted”. “Many people have died trying to catch the thief. One was stabbed to death by a bunch of needles. One died by severe burning. One’s insides were slit by a monkey. Four died choking on camel crap.” 😂
Aladdin was always the choice of movie whenever we had a thunderstorm. Picnic in the living room w my little brother and sister w all the lights off w this movie is STILL the way to go. I’m 35 now and my three boys and I STILL carry on the tradition
Fun Fact: "A Whole New World" made "double history" at the time, for the week ending March 6th, 1993, it became the first-ever Disney song to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (sung by Regina Belle & Peabo Bryson - who had just made history two years prior when the theme from "Beauty And The Beast," his duet w/Celine Dion became the first-ever Disney song to make it into the top 10, peaking at #9). The one history it made that same week was at that time, it had knocked out the longest-ever #1 song on the Hot 100 Chart, Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You," which had been the #1 song for the previous 14 consecutive weeks.
One of my favorite bits of trivia is when he's doing the bit at the beginning as the merchant, they put Robin in a room with a covered table and removed the tablecloth and just let Robin go. So the bit where he's like "will not break....it broke" is because he broke the object lol
23:09 That’s actually not too far from how hypnosis actually works. To put it in layman’s terms, if the hypnotic suggestion doesn’t line up enough with how the subject normally thinks, their conscious mind will recognize the thoughts are not their own and immediately reject them.
This is one of what I call "The Big Four" which I personally consider the best animated Disney films. 1. The Little Mermaid 2. Beauty and the Beast 3. Aladdin 4. The Lion King
OH MY GOD, if you love this movie you should watch the play, Twisted. It's basically the story of Aladdin told from Jafar's perspective. The company that produced it is called Starkid and you can actually watch the entire play on their RUclips page.
YES! Twisted is my favorite Starkid production (The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals as a close second). It's so well-written, with little Disney references here and there, the main is a vocal STAR, I could go on and on about it. And while it has a lot of heart and a gorgeous duet at the end, it IS very adult, so readers/watcher be forewarned.
I read somewhere that they basically let Robin Williams loose and then animated the genie bits around what he had come up with. Especially 'A Friend Like Me' He was definitely the king of improv! RIP 😢
I had never thought about how both Genie and Jasmine had a similar character arc or that Aladdin provided that freedom for them. Thank you for that wholesome commentary.
15:13 It’s funny that you compare this scene to a video game, because there is a Magic Carpet section in Kingdom Hearts 1 that is pretty much exactly this.

I know this will probably never happen, but I want to imagine him reacting to Twisted, the musical homage to Aladdin. It really plays with the source material well lmao
My kids loved this movie, so much that for Halloween my daughter was Jasmin and my nephew was Aladdin. They were 3 and 4. My older son who was 8 was the magic carpet. It was absolutely the funniest thing I ever seen. I hand made all their costumes to exact replicas. The carpet was insanely funny especially watching him walk in it. Love your channel. Robin Williams is my acting IDOL... This movie is what got me into voice acting in the first place... to this day, I cannot do all of Genie's impressions... RIP Master Robin...miss you so much!
The genie's cartoony nature allows for a lot of improvization and free acting. Robin Williams was the better choice for his voice. As something curious, in the live action Will Smith was worried of not being good enough for the role of the genie, but in the end he was a good succesor for Robin Williams. He even carried the whole movie in the end.
Honestly, I would have loved Smith as Genie more if the producers had just let him entirely do his own thing with Genie, instead of copying Williams’ version in any way. Like the rendition of Friend Like Me they put in the credits should have been the one in the movie proper. The Broadway versions don’t try to be Williams, and they’re better for it.
Fun Fact: Frank Welker, who voiced the Cave of Wonders, reprised the role in the live-action version. (He also did Abu and Rajah here.) Aladdin's escape from the rolling tower is influenced by Buster Keaton's stunt with a falling house facade in 'Steamboat Bill, Jr.' (1928). The animators had something like 16 hours of improvisation to choose from when animating the Genie.
3:49 The guy who sang this song for the movie looked like he was having the time of his life recording it. You can find a video of him in the recording booth singing for this.
loving the journey of disney movie! 5:53 you should see "balto" then 😄I often watch the record of the voice actors singing a whole new world, it's pure magic (as well as I see the light from tangled)
When you said it's like a video game during the lava tsunami, it reminded me of the Nintendo video game Aladdin. Escaping the lava flow was one of the hardest parts of the game.
I once read a theory many years ago that stated Aladdin is actually set in the far post-apocalyptic future. The idea behind the theory was to explain the Genies line about being locked away for 10,000 years, yet the impressions he does when first meeting Aladdin are of people from current times. Basically, after whatever caused the apocalypse, be it war, meteor strike, etc., society barely clung on and reverted to what we would view as ancient society. With only a few bits of ancient hyper-advanced technology surviving. The flying carpet, Jafar's staff, even Genie himself. Genie being a sort of super advanced AI program that, using the aforementioned archeo-tech, could manipulate matter thereby granting "wishes" using molecular manipulation. For example realigning the molecules in simple sand into gold. Even Iago and Abu are potential evidence. They are still animals, but their advanced levels of intelligence allowing for speech, free will, understanding of human language, etc., could either be evolution over the 10,000 year time period, accidental mutation of their ancestors DNA from nuclear fallout, or even gene manipulation by biologists from before the fall of civilization in an effort to uplift certain animal species.
The theme of the characters being trapped is central to the movie. It's not just Jasmine and the Genie that feels trapped but Aladdin is trapped, first as a street rat and then as a prince, The Sultan feels trapped for his dilemma of his daughter wont find a suitor to marry and Jafar and Iago are trapped because they serve a ruler they feel is being incompetent (being busy playing with toys like being a big kid and being so guilble). In the end, all characters becomes free except for Jafar and Iago, who're both trapped in Jafar's lamp at the end.
I grew up with Aladdin as a kid, and one of my favorite Disney adventurous movies I will forever cherish. A true Diamond in the Rough. Plus, Robin Williams as the Genie brings out the best comedic side character since Timon and Pumba. RIP Legend.
Fun fact 1 jasmine's singing voice also was mulans singing voice. Fun fact 2 the voice of Abu is the same voice actor that voices scooby and Fred in scooby doo
Aladdin was my first favorite movie and reason I fell in love with the performances of Robin Williams. To this day I can't think of a better 2D movie. It's visually stunning and an absolute masterpiece!
Fun facts: 1- The merchant at the beginning was in fact voiced by Robin Williams. The Genie and the Merchant are the only characters in the entire movie with one less finger on each hand as well, so some people theorize the merchant is the Genie. 2- The song at the beginning has a line that doesn't rhyme as it did before it was changed. The original opening lines went as follows: "Oh I come from a land from a faraway place, where the caravan camels roam. Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face. It's barbaric, but hey, it's home." Place was supposed to rhyme with face, but they changed it because of the implied imagery. 3- If they used all of Robin Williams's recordings, the movie's length would've more than doubled. They had several hours worth of just Robin's ad lib recordings that were all generally unique. 4- The voice you recognized as Iago that you couldn't quite place was the late Gilbert Gottfried.
I'm glad the opening line was changed, whatever the reason. I grew up with the newer line on home video, but I suspect my sister would have seen the old version as she saw Aladdin in theatres before I was born (she would have been about six or seven). I wasn't especially surprised to find out the identity of the merchant a while back because I always found him hilarious.
I don't remember exactly when, but sometime fairly recently (within the last year), they officially confirmed that the merchant is the Genie. I don't remember the details about who confirmed that unfortunately, I just remember learning it and being surprised it hadn't been confirmed earlier.
For 1. There was a cut scene from the end of the video showing the merchant changes to the genie, but they thought it was kind of redundent. So its not just a theory
I was 5 years old when this came out, this was the first movie I saw in a Cinema. One heck of a experience. I remember my mom took me. I ended up working at a movie theatre when I was a teenager and during my college summers. I was one of the people who trained new staff. During day one orientation we did icebreakers to get into the movie going mood, "Tell me about your first Cinema going experience that you recall." I loved being able to share my example of seeing Aladdin. You would probably love the sequel "Return of Jafar" and 3rd "Aladdin and the King of Thieves." Some big name voices in those too.
@@turmericchai9 For what its worth, this put me into prime child old-enough-to-get-it age a few years after when Lion King came out in theatres. Saw that for a birthday party with my cousins. We were, not prepared for the stampede scene, old enough to get what happened, young enough to be 'scar'red. XD
I loved this movie and its series too! I was in my late teens when I first saw this movie on VHS. Aladdin was my first human cartoon crush...and still is!;)
This came out when I was a freshman in high school. It was the first movie I saw in a theater more than once (saw it six times!). Seeing the escape from the cave on the big screen felt like riding a roller coaster. And this was well before the days of after credit scenes, so people often started leaving as soon as the final chorus in the final scene started. I remember many people turning around to see what was happening when the genie started laughing, hence the "made you look!" 😂

11:19 That voice is Jim Cummings...Cat from CatDog, Pete from Goof Troop/Goofy Movie, Tazmanian Devil, Darkwing Duck, Monterey Jack/Fat Cat from Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, and many more!
Robin William's portrail of Genie is kind of a double edged sword. The performance is great but it is so referential that I, who was born in the 80's barely recognise half the bits he does. On top of that, it set the precident of almost every subsequent Disney production having a comic relief character voiced by a known stand up comedian.
This is also a movie that is better on a giant movie screen, not just because of spectacle of everything the colors and all that but because of the way that it is shot, the scale of things is so impressive on a giant screen. The table wonders is amazing on a big screen. The carpet is the carpet right escape from the table wonders is so, intense on a big screen that you literally feel like you’re flying it is an amazing experience on a big giant movie screen if you ever get a chance to see Aladdin on a big screen do it

14:41 This is one of my favorite bits of animation in the movie. I love how the golden ape statue shifts from smiling to frowning as it melts. Also, keep in mind while watching that this is not computer generated. Alan menken took these Renaissance disney movies to a whole other level. Composing the scores of little mermaid, beauty and the beast, aladdin, pocahontas, hunchback of notre dame and hercules. Also writing music for enchanted and tangled as well. He's legit a whole other level
So much trivia I could say about this movie (which is my favorite Disney movie ever, BTW), but I'll keep it brief. In the movie's initial release, the opening song contained a part that went "Where they cut off your ears if they don't like your face / It's barbaric, but hey, it's home". This line was deemed potentially racist and was changed in later releases of the movie. The merchant was actually supposed to appear at the end of the movie and be revealed to have been Genie all along (note that he's also voiced by Robin Williams), but the filmmakers decided that by that point, the audience would already be applauding, so that scene was scrapped. Another thing cut from the movie was Aladdin's mother, who would've even had a song called "Proud of Your Boy". Jafar also had two cut songs called "Why Me?" and "Humiliate the Boy", but they ultimately decided on a reprise of "Prince Ali" instead to keep the scene more flowing. If you look closely, the half of the scarab that Iago snatches and gives to Jafar actually changed between it being in the thief's hand and being given to Jafar. An error that I noticed even as a child. In the Finnish dub, Genie was voiced by a famous Finnish actor and comedian named Vesa-Matti Loiri. In order to make his jokes more original, he was given special permission to only work with muted scenes without hearing Robin Williams's take, resulting in him doing some imitations of Finnish celebrities. This paid off big time, with the Finnish dub of Aladdin being recognized by Disney as the best foreign dub of the movie. You should also check out the movie's two sequels for a complete story.
I am so glad you reacted to this one...a lot of the Genie's lines actually were Robin improvising. A Whole New World is one of my favorite Disney songs....Aladdin is on top of my Disney favorites/rewatch films. Glad you enjoyed it, great reaction, summary...as always Oscar, great job! Brian
I just LOOOOOOVE the beginning of this movie. The song (the original creepy-ish one)...so intense, and the humoristical merchant who wants to sell you shit, while addressing the viewer directly. Just a banger.
Trying so hard not to cry, listening to Robin Williams. I'm so sorry he felt like there was no other way anymore. But I am also so happy that mental illness is getting so much more awareness nowadays. and that alot of people now understand, that behind a smile isn't always a happy person.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. As a kid, I would watch it every night, and as soon as it ended, I would rewind it and watch it again. And now, nearly 30 years later, I can honestly say I still adore it. I also highly recommend the live-action remake. I know a lot of people dislike it, because they wanted Will Smith's Genie to be exactly the same as Robin Williams's. Push that expectation aside, and it's still a wonderful movie, including Will Smith's performance.
Fun fact from a Finn: the late Finnish actor (and singer, musician,comedian... a legend actually) Vesa-Matti Loiri received a special mention from Disney for his "uniquely original" performance as Genie!

@@darrenc2721 Same here, I cry every time I think about Robin... 💔
Alan menken and Ashman made my entire childhood what it was
This movie still hurts to watch
About most of the movie was Rbin improv.
Still a very enjoyable film to this day.
Bye bye."
Those last lines, I honestly believed, at one point, he was speaking right to me, helping me move on.
This movie is literally my childhood. I literally know the movie’s audio by heart because I wore out the VHS watching it repeatedly as a small kid.
I did tht too haha
Same. I know almost every line in this movie b/c we kept rewatching it during movie nights on the weekend.
Yeap, we learned all Genie's monologues ❤
Same. It's my favourite movie of all time
@Victoria-sm1sj mulans my favourite Disney movie
28:45 "They just jumped into Hercules." Fun fact, both Aladdin and Hercules had Disney TV shows and there was an episode of Hercules ( "Hercules and the Arabian Night" ) where they met due to their respective villains schemeing aginst them.
@@Kladyos Yes, because Disney has a priority of 100% historical accuracy in all their media. ^_^;; Far be it for them to make up stuff for the sake of storytelling. 😛
@@Kladyos Yes, because as we all know, Disney is 100% historically accurate in all their films. 😛
Wish that Atlantis had taken off so we could have gotten that Gargoyles connection.
@@Drakin292 THIS ISN'T A DOCUMENTARY!?!? lmao
28:29, for that reason, “A Whole New World” is one of the most recognizable and most difficult duet songs to ever come from the Disney Renaissance.
RIP Robin Williams
31:18 Yeah, I also think so: Genie fond with Aladdin, because he saw Aladdin was not like his other masters
When the flying carpet has more personality than the entire Wish movie
That is hilarious 😂 good one 👍🏻
7:48 The parrot (Iago I think is the name) is voiced by the late Gilbert Gottfried.
Yes thank you fellow Starkid fan!! As soon as the sultan showed up, I cracked up all over again remembering his "thrilling" tale from the musical 😂
"Aladdin!"
"How'd you know it was me?"
"Because it is you! You're just wearing different clothes!"
A song is a d*ck in _sheep's clothing!_
Definitely! And Aladdin really should have drowned
Twisted is an amazing show. It's on RUclips, I highly recommend anyone who loves Aladdin and Disney films watch it.
Aladdin was always the choice of movie whenever we had a thunderstorm. Picnic in the living room w my little brother and sister w all the lights off w this movie is STILL the way to go. I’m 35 now and my three boys and I STILL carry on the tradition
How wonderful 😊 I love hearing about little family traditions like this
Awwww ❤
The “I’ll miss you” hits so much harder with Robin gone…
23:09
That’s actually not too far from how hypnosis actually works.
To put it in layman’s terms, if the hypnotic suggestion doesn’t line up enough with how the subject normally thinks, their conscious mind will recognize the thoughts are not their own and immediately reject them.
This is one of what I call "The Big Four" which I personally consider the best animated Disney films.
1. The Little Mermaid
2. Beauty and the Beast
3. Aladdin
4. The Lion King
And also are part of the Disney Renaissance
Yes the little mermaid my favourite Disney princess movie,Ariel my favourite Disney princess and Eric my favourite Disney prince
The latter I very much don't care for. The animation is phenomenal, and that's it.
💯 spot on!
Aladdin Number 1!
35:29 "Dang he knows this song?" made me chuckle 😂
Absolutely!!! What a glorious triple layer of parody and insight.
I second this!!!!
Absolutely! It's ridiculously good. And Aladdin really should have drowned
I read somewhere that they basically let Robin Williams loose and then animated the genie bits around what he had come up with. Especially 'A Friend Like Me'
He was definitely the king of improv! RIP 😢
Aladdin is my number one fav Disney film...always. As a POC as well, I always adored Jasmine growing up
I had never thought about how both Genie and Jasmine had a similar character arc or that Aladdin provided that freedom for them. Thank you for that wholesome commentary.
I saw this in the movie theater when it came out. At the end it got a standing ovation.
I wish I could have been there
15:13 It’s funny that you compare this scene to a video game, because there is a Magic Carpet section in Kingdom Hearts 1 that is pretty much exactly this.

I love Aladdin! When I was a little boy I had a huge crush on him!
I loved Robin's role in this movie he had so many voices and characters he is legend, and I miss him a lot to this very day. What a classic legend.
Keep up the fantastic work. Love and prayers
Too bad the actor of jafar let that movie down, he was terrible
Fun Fact: Frank Welker, who voiced the Cave of Wonders, reprised the role in the live-action version. (He also did Abu and Rajah here.)
Aladdin's escape from the rolling tower is influenced by Buster Keaton's stunt with a falling house facade in 'Steamboat Bill, Jr.' (1928).
The animators had something like 16 hours of improvisation to choose from when animating the Genie.
Aladdin to Genie: " How do I look?"
Genie: " Like a vampire on a day pass."
Aladdin: " PPFFFT!!"
3:49 The guy who sang this song for the movie looked like he was having the time of his life recording it. You can find a video of him in the recording booth singing for this.
Scott Weinger then. Scott Weinger now. Scott Weinger forever. Aladdin, Steve, whatever the role.
loving the journey of disney movie! 5:53 you should see "balto" then 😄I often watch the record of the voice actors singing a whole new world, it's pure magic (as well as I see the light from tangled)
Robin Williams will always be dearly missed. Robin, you're free!
From his deepest, darkest emotions 😢😢😢, I miss him so
When you said it's like a video game during the lava tsunami, it reminded me of the Nintendo video game Aladdin.
Mind. Blown. 🤯
I'm pretty sure the canon explanation is the genie has cosmic knowledge of the future and has endless access to future media in the lamp.
RIP Legend.
Omg. I watched this movie soooo much that I once had the entire thing memorized, songs and dialogue!
Fun fact 1 jasmine's singing voice also was mulans singing voice. Fun fact 2 the voice of Abu is the same voice actor that voices scooby and Fred in scooby doo
Frank Welker! He was also the original Megatron (Transformers) and played the animated version of Dr. Ray Stantz (Real Ghostbusters).
Aladdin was my first favorite movie and reason I fell in love with the performances of Robin Williams. To this day I can't think of a better 2D movie. It's visually stunning and an absolute masterpiece!
Fun facts:
1- The merchant at the beginning was in fact voiced by Robin Williams.
@@FiryaFYI Ah, good to know. Thank you!
I grew up with both versions of the song because while the movie had the edited line my cassette tape and later my CD had the original version.
"You'll always be a prince to me" gets me every time.
This movie is one my uncle (RIP) and I watched together and I have the most memories of. ❤ Iago and Genie are just amazing characters.
So jealous. I was just a couple years too young to see it in theater.
After watching this, Starkids "Twisted" musical is definitely worth a watch. It perfectly turns the story on its head
Agreed. Actually a completely plausible rewrite and a fairly well-done the-villain-is-actually-way-more-sympathetic story.
Twisted is fantastic ❤
I hated it
@@katarinadreams6955 thats fair, humor's subjective and musicals arent for everyone, but I still think its pretty good and a fun pairing with the original movie
11:19 That voice is Jim Cummings...Cat from CatDog, Pete from Goof Troop/Goofy Movie, Tazmanian Devil, Darkwing Duck, Monterey Jack/Fat Cat from Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, and many more!
Robin Williams... what a legend. His improv in this really brought it to life. And Jeremy Irons as Jaffar was epic casting.
The carpet is the carpet right escape from the table wonders is so, intense on a big screen that you literally feel like you’re flying it is an amazing experience on a big giant movie screen if you ever get a chance to see Aladdin on a big screen do it
OH MY GOD
Please, you have to watch Twisted by Starkid now! 💙
It's a musical/Aladdin-parody/Disney-satire, all in one, and I believe you're going to love it
A warning that Twisted has some adult humour (probably fine but I don't know what his stance is for his channel 😄). But I would love love love Oscar to get into StarKid! 💖
Disagree- I love Starkid and I loved their creativity with Twisted but they made Aladdin so awful by flipping it and changing the story- I couldn’t get into it since I love Aladdin 😅
After watching “Twisted” the musical, this movie hits differently 😂
The second I heard Jafar say “sands of time” my brain got jerked straight back to Twisted 😂
"And they played it off as a one-off joke. As if I were some... silly side character only here to illustrate her reluctance to get married!"
Idk if youre taming sugestions, but you should watch Twisted by Starkid, its an Aladdin parody, and it's incredible

This is one of my favorite bits of animation in the movie. I love how the golden ape statue shifts from smiling to frowning as it melts.
Also, keep in mind while watching that this is not computer generated. The animator had to make a minimum of 12 pencil rendered drawings of this ape statue melting for every second it was on-screen.
✍️
as a child i VIVIDLY remember just being so fucking scared of that cave, he sounded SO terrifying! with the melting statues and “killing” the first guy it was too much for little ole me😂

Really appreciate you!! Thankyou
Oscar, so glad that you have finally checked out "Aladdin." It was the second film I ever saw in theaters back in December of 1992. I still remember seeing it on the Big Screen and the experience was incredible. Still one of my favorite Disney films. I remember the escape from the Cave of Wonders scene was so intense on the movie screen. Such an amazing film. Thanks for your review. Took me back to being 8 years old.
I FULLY believe Robin Williams was doing some kind of manic choreography in the booth while he was recording his lines. And not just those first few scenes, but the whole thing.
15:12 it did! And I was never able to beat this lava level 😭
19:20 I absolutely love Robin Williams! Even though I have seen this movie a million times, I can't help but feel immense joy at almost every line that comes out of Genie's mouth! I laugh every time! I can't help it!
Disneyland used to do a stage show of Aladdin, and the Genie would ad lib... it was so good!
Jasmine is one of the best Princesses, i love her so much, my Aries queen
they actually animated around a bunch of Robin Williams improv
also "jafar jafar hes our man, if he cant do it GREAT 😡" will always live in my head rent free
Fun fact 2: Disney says that they have so much unused footage of Robin improvising that it could be miles long ❤
YES SO EXCITED FOR YOUR REACTION THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!
Alan menken took these Renaissance disney movies to a whole other level. Composing the scores of little mermaid, beauty and the beast, aladdin, pocahontas, hunchback of notre dame and hercules. Also writing music for enchanted and tangled as well. He's legit a whole other level
next up... Twisted the musical by StarKid
I’m so happy seeing your reaction and how empathetic you were towards the characters.
Trying so hard not to cry, listening to Robin Williams. I'm so sorry he felt like there was no other way anymore.
But I am also so happy that mental illness is getting so much more awareness nowadays. and that alot of people
now understand, that behind a smile isn't always a happy person.
Aladdin is one of my favorites. Robin Williams as Genie was very enjoyable and funny. The songs were incredible. RIP Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried. They're great comedians and will be missed
🎵🎵🎵✨️✨️✨️🤣🤣🤣
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. As a kid, I would watch it every night, and as soon as it ended, I would rewind it and watch it again.
And now, nearly 30 years later, I can honestly say I still adore it.
I also highly recommend the live-action remake. I know a lot of people dislike it, because they wanted Will Smith's Genie to be exactly the same as Robin Williams's. Push that expectation aside, and it's still a wonderful movie, including Will Smith's performance.
The director just sat Robin in a booth and he just started improving, that's how amazing he was.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I watched it so many times, over and over whenever I was sick
Fun fact from a Finn: the late Finnish actor (and singer, musician,comedian... a legend actually) Vesa-Matti Loiri received a special mention from Disney for his "uniquely original" performance as Genie!
How did I miss this post?! So glad I clicked on your page. Aladdin is really special. It’s been rated a favorite of all of them. Bc of Robin (and Gilbert-the parrot) mainly. And the music. It’s all good! Lol
Probably my all time favorite. This was THE movie I rewatched repeatedly as kid. The songs are great and The Genie (and Robin Williams) just makes me feel so good while watching
22:50 Another fun little easter egg here; similarly to Hercules wearing Scar's skin for his portrait, one of the animal figurines the Sultan is stacking up is the Beast, from Beauty and the Beast!
Jonathan Freeman is the voice actor for Jafar and he is even playing him in a broadway musical soon.
