4.8.24 after dinner and I am drinking some coffee I roasted a few days ago. Medium roast and I used my Breville Precision to do the pour over. It is a great machine and it will set the right temp for the brew. I roasted more beans today using my stainless mixing bowl and hot air gun. I took it just beyond second crack where I like it. Just love dark roast better that light or med. For over 40 years I drank light coffee. This past fall, I got into the art of brewing coffee and trying many different brands. At that time I started buying all whole bean. Now I understand a lot more about coffee and how to get taste from it. I used Mr. Coffee to brew my coffee for many years until I decided to step up and convince my wife I had to have the Breville. No turning back now. The sr800 is what I want but they are sold as fast as they make them. I can't find anyone at this time that has one including Sweet Maria.

Once you get your hands on that SR800 you are going to really love roasting...it's a fun roaster and allows you to really drive the roast.

The taste I love is one that is not fruity or sweet but of a roasted taste. Almost like roasted peanuts. I hit that taste a couple of times brewing. Just don't remember what I did to get the taste. I think my favorite roast is dark, right at second crack. Like James Hoffman says. There is not right or wrong, it is what you like.

Thanks for the view. That's the point I enjoy my coffee profile..just at second crack. Although recently I began to enjoy some medium roast Ethiopian where you really pick up the fruitiness.

I do understand a lot more about coffee than the average Joe. I have watched so many videos and classes and watched so many brew methods. It is without a doubt roasting and grinding your own beans is the best. BUT, in defense of grocery store coffee, Eight O'Clock medium roast is still some damn good coffee. On occasion, I still drink Folgers aka F. When you go to a diner or restaurant, you can bet you are drinking F or MH.
