Am I the only one who didn’t know smart guitars was a thing ?
i didn't know it exists.
😀 Nope I didn't either!
me either !
Veonce De’Faye nah mate I thought it was click bait
Veonce De’Faye honestly I didnt know that was a thing either.
Am I the only one who think this is not a "guitar"
That's a fact you can spam that shit and nobody has a right to talk shit. Technically they can but it wouldn't matter bro.
its not
@Grenks, dude just stop
It’s not a guitar
Its more a training aid and excercise aid really. You can learn chord shapes and basic scales on it. I would suspect it's going to be mostly used by professional guitarists when they don't have a guitar handy, like on holiday, to keep Thier muscle memory in tone and finger suppleness. As an aid for a beginner, I think it would be more likely to confuse and frustrate that actually encourage someone to learn.
@@penfold7800 it’s also good for midi tracking. If you want keyboard sounds and don’t play key’s this is a great tool to have.

All guitar player isn’t this video kind of cringy?

Why do I feel like I'm the only one who learns perfectly well on the Internet
Right lol
Yeah, you can learn much more from RUclips tutorials than from that smart guitar, so don't waste money on it!
Ik lol
It's so easy. It's just because people actually don't care enough to give it a proper go and see it through
You just need to have a functioning guitar and determination to learn guitar internet or face to face
From a music teacher's perspective, what I see here is outstanding. I see a student who had put an instrument down out of frustration now finding an instrument that she enjoys and is inspired to practice. This, like a guitar, is an instrument on its own. You can create music with it. You can learn chords and music theory. Now it's a nice benefit that learning this will absolutely also carry over in significant ways to playing a guitar. But even if it didn't, this would be nothing less than a person finding fun making music. _That's the whole point of music._
? You do realize you are holding your pick upside down... right?

She skipped that lesson calling it 'too basic'.

Feeling a guitar's weight and length, hearing it's sound, getting used to it is something much more different than trying to learn it from a smart one. In my opinion, that just looks so fake.
Just remember some people don’t have a way to pack a big guitar around.
"$200 is the price of a decent Electric Guitar"
😅😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's correct in a way, "Decent" is the word !!
In the neighborhood of $600 is decent
@@tsbdgaming69s96 depends what your definition of decent, after restoring a $50 fake strat (just looks like one, dif brand and usually goes for $150) and everyone says it sounds great.
+Enquisitor Red I’m saying if you want a stock guitar from Guitar Center or something, $600 would be decent. Restoring is different. Beginner guitarists usually don’t know, if they do know, how to modify guitars. In that case, it won’t matter as long as you have solid tuners and a bridge and the necessary tools to help you with fret filing, intonation, etc. However, for a stock guitar in any random store, $600 is decent
@@tsbdgaming69s96 well yeah, stock 600 is good. We only really adjusted the bridge and only a couple months ago changed the machine heads. My dad is a guitarist so he really helped, I guess part of it is the marshall amp he bought me last month for my birthday.
"This is like so basic. I dont think we need this" that's why you were holding your pick backwards in the first shots😭😂
Ikr wtf
The intro is like I’m watching a Yousician ad
Those ads are awful.
This reminded me when i first picked up a guitar. It’s ok, ignore all the comments. Everyone goes through this process. It takes a few weeks to be able to press the F chord, a few months to remember all the chords by heart. I learned how to hold a pick properly on my 8th year playing the guitar (i thought you just strum it down but you actually do that on an angle, more like scraping the strings with the side of the pick). But after knowing basic chords you can start learning fingerstyle!!! (In my opinion) the most creative use of instrument ever. Have funnn
Also, you sort of highlighted the actual use case for this gadget. It’s meant for travel. Traveling with a proper guitar is a pain in the ass, and there are so many instances when I’m away from home but my fingers are itching because i can’t play the guitar. This product makes a good practice guitar that adds no stress to traveling.
Looks like a cool product, but getting real lessons is something I would recommend over this type of learning 😊
Meh, depends on the person. Although personally I would never pay $200 for that tool, I also learn better on my own. The only reason I just started taking lessons is because I started feeling like I developed some bad habits that I couldn't identify easily; such as having my thumb somewhat loose while I'm playing slap bass and not double thumping.
@@FrenchAudio2000 so in point... U took lessons lol
Dont take lessons in mind. It's such a bad idea in many ways. Not wise, shouldn't be done, you find yourself. But for some selfish people.

I liked the fact that you showed that even with "TECH" learning a musical instrument is not easy. Honesty is what makes your effort real and that gets my respect. I know it is none of my business, but I miss Monica, so if you could pass it on and tell her, I hope she is feeling stronger and more positive, and best of luck no matter what she is pursuing.
Guitar is a complex instrument to learn where you may never feel like you are finished learning, which is sort of what is also great. The great part is that you only need to know a little in order to enjoy playing some songs and feel accomplished. The hardest part is probably the first two weeks as your fingers get used to pushing on the strings.
Absolutely agree with you. Its pure torture and pain the first 2 weeks of trying to get your fingers use to it.
i'm so shook it took you right to the barre chords on the 3rd day. i'm a guitarist and that takes A LOT of practice and getting used to, but hey, i hope you'll keep practicing, guitar is a really fun (and also kinda hard-ish) instrument to play. good luck on your journey!
edit: i would also add as a con the fact that it doesn't have as many frets as an acoustic or classical guitar, even though that's good for portability, if you want to play a song or a riff that requires you to barre let's say the 12th fret, you wouldn't be able to do that.
So do you think this would be a good "intro" for someone who can't afford lessons? Ya know, to get a decent base before continuing on with a full guitar?
Alex Stefan bruh idk i started learning bar chords within like the first week they're difficult tho like i think mastering those takes time but starting them doesn't have to
@@michaelrobinett6128 Definetly! Don't get me wrong, I really think it's a great start for someone that has never had anything to do with guitar, but to be able to do barre chords you need strength in your hand, and to form strength, you need to learn and master those "begginer chords" as we call them. The thing with these guitars is that you don't have to tune them, and so your ears won't get used to how your guitar should sound all tuned up, and you won't be able to know how sensible the tuning pegs are and how much you have to rotate them to "fine tune" it. These are just my thoughts, so please don't come after me if you think otherwise haha. But I wish you the very best of luck on your guitar learning path if you choose to start learning guitar!
tf kinda crack you on nigga barre chords were taught to me by my teacher the first or second day lol theyre really not that hard rofl

I really enjoy the type of videos you are doing lately. I feel like you've found a really good groove.
Keep at it. I have learned that when it comes to guitar playing, you will find yourself ready to give up and then next thing you know you are playing again and learning more. The fun is when you hear yourself making music you like. It is not something you learn and then put it away. It will become a life long thing that you enjoy.
this product is only better for those who still new in playing guitar. the actual guitar still the best tho❤
I learned the strings using "Every Bad Girl Deserves An Egg" ....... idk why guitar teacher taught me that back in the day.
Something about learning it as EBGDAE instead of EADGBE makes me deeply uncomfortable haha
From a professional guitarist's perspective this video is sooooo accurate. That's amazing to learn that much in 3 days. Now comes the practice of getting those things dialed in. Nice job!
Yousician and Rocksmith are out there. I'd prefer getting a Rocksmith cable and an actual Les Paul than getting a "fake" guitar, then buying an actual guitar.
Edit: If you're looking for a miniature electric guitar there's the Lapstick but it's expensive, this smart guitar's perk is really the size. The price is a bummer tho
Your videos are some of my favorites right now! Even when I’m not interested in the topic you somehow manage to make it interesting + the quality and editing is always so good!

Amazing video, it's clear you actually spent time with the thing and you made what could have been a boring video entertaining and informative, thank you.
Also, I would love if you did part two of this video, like if you're gonna keep at it, your progress after a month!
It's been my experience that the most progress I've made on any instrument is playing with people. Especially people who are already better than me. There's so much you can overlook when you "don't know what you don't know". Having the clear instruction from a player that can see what you're doing and give you personalized advice is invaluable. I think it's great that you're starting guitar, and the beginning stage is the hardest, because there's so many unexpected hurdles. I recommend daily practice, even if for just a short time some days. After about 3 months, things just start to click and muscle memory makes things suddenly easier. Best of luck on your journey!
I love your "SMART" series!!! so new and interesting and insightful. keep up the great. videos:)))
This video just showed up in my feed, glad you made it, there are many people out there that would like to learn an instrument, learning on your own is very hard because you don't know what to look for, so I can see where this Smart Guitar and App would be great for a beginner.
Here to support Shelby💋💋 LOVE💋💋
As someone who has been playing guitar for 30 plus years, and professionally 20 years, I think you should know that the secret to getting good at bar chords is not trying to press down on all six strings for every chord. Most players don't use all six whenever we play chords. Try just doing the root and the 5th of each chord - and then add other notes later when you get more comfortable. You will get to where you want to go much faster, and it sounds like you are trying too hard in some areas, which will lead to boredom and discouragement.
Amazing, informative video👏🏾👏🏾, have you tried Yousician ?
Fine job. It seems you are learning and enjoying, so in actuality it’s working. Keep at it. Thanks for sharing.
If I don’t use my guitar every day I’ll forget everything I’ve learned
so true! no matter what level you are at the moment, you'll always have that feeling (it's not a bad thing actually. I think it motivates me even more ;) )
Shelby I liked your review... As a beginner with 2 kids by the time I am able to play and focus it is late at night I am looking for something to learn late at night and this seems easier that trying to learn on a full size guitar... Have you stuck with it and do you still use it?
"guitar is still really hard to learn" I'm gonna be brutally honest and say you did not only skip the esstentials right off the bat from what I was able to get from the start(clicked cuz I was bored, not because I liked the idea of this drumstick thing), you disregaurded the fact that guitars are not meant to be a meme instrument. yes I'm still a noob because it's been a single year(with probably 3 major 1 month gaps spread across it) but the last time I checked, you don't start with scales. scales are nothing when you can't tell what you are doing.
my suggestion for anyone tryina start guitar(or B A S S... or any of the more over looked stringed instruments) is to commit to it. personally sitting around with almost a month of no work on improving my skills fucks my left hand's ability to stretch so much(compared to my brother and my dad, I have small hands... my mum's are the same size and from what she claims, my dad also has slightly smaller than average hands too.) that it takes me approximately 20 hours worth of total work to get it back to being smooth enough.
if you're trying to play Neon or something about a month in, think again. it's not that you're incapable of such feats, it's highly improbably. like baseball(or anything that requires physical endurance and proper skill), you WILL fuck up your body without proper training. that butterknife or whatever, is good on paper but it's not built around the proper principal of playing an instrument. also, it took me 3 months just to manage playing Snow(RHCP) to the point where I was at least fretting the right notes(and took me until now, a whole year-ish of constantly trying to play it close enough to what I could hear and get from the tabs I used.)
this is getting too long so I'll just leave these here instead:
1. there are many examples you can find where people hold picks to the point where it would mentally destroy your reality
2. barre or bar chords are bitches and I hated them until my index finger pulled a Saitama on me.
3. use the chromatic scale(basically all the frets within a 4 fret zone) to stretch your joints. play all the notes till you reach the highest, then back down to the lowest, then you move the whole zone up 1 fret and do it all over again. you can stop at the 12th(the double dot fret, the fret that's between 2 areas with no fret markers every other fret, whatever you call it.) fret after your pinky reaches it or keep going.
4. if you've learnt to play piano and read sheet music a bit(just need to know the treble clef notes for now), all you need to remember is that each fret is a half step/ half note up from it's preceeding fret.
TRUTH.
I learned the pentatonic scale before chords.. and I was out jamming at 10 months playing some pentatonic at blues jams.. then I realized I need to learn chords to be able to play with people properly.. so I started to learn chords and a couple basic songs like Hey Joe and Cocaine.. I actually got bar chords down before I can transition between open chords. Now I'm about 1 year 8 months in playing guitar and I play in bars and go to jams weekly. Here I am playing Comfortably Numb on New Year's ruclips.net/video/M6ZRMb-2bX0/видео.html
In short. There is no set way to learn.. learn whatever will keep you motivated and having fun.. that is the key.. have fun! In the beginning I didn't sit around playing open chords because I wanted to play like David Gilmour plays his leads.. so just have fun and learn in any order you like
There are no shortcuts to learning guitar. Put in the time, Jesus Christ.
Screw the negative commenters. I think this guitar is a great idea for anyone that struggles with beginner momentum. Learning the chords and putting them together makes a person want to keep playing - especially when the natural talent is less than average. And yes, I play guitar.
The basic basics are the most important things when learning how to play an instrument
teresa thompson When learning anything, really. If you build anything without a strong, solid foundation you can bet you’ll have to go back to it later to get it fixed. And sometimes you can’t fix the basics without tearing down the whole building.

I can’t, it’s dope that she has a midi guitar. Yet I think she needs a Takamine and how to play cover songs on RUclips, she is pretty funny, she’s a hustler.
I hope you keep at it because you made a pretty big jump already! You will train your hands and very soon muscle memory will suddenly make a big difference! It’s all about having fun while you stay constant in your practicing! Milestone breakthroughs will suddenly appear, you’ll be surprised and happy you kept at it! Your doing great!
A 'smart guitar' like this won't improve your playing any more than RUclips tutorials do. I'm pretty sure that you can actually learn MORE from RUclips tutorials, if you just know WHAT to learn. Therefore try and find an experienced guitar player and ask them WHAT you need to learn, because you need to get the feeling of playing guitar.
Spending 200 dollars for a guitar that's supposed to help you won't do you any good
Yeah but you have to think about it this way this guitar is good for people who aren't allowed to have their guitar with them like if they're traveling on the bus or a plane
I was curious if you've made any progress since you initially dropped this video. How's your experience been with the Jamstik over the last year or so, have you stuck with it? How well has your practice with the Jamstik transferred over to your actual guitar? I'd love to see an update! Cheers!

You could buy a travel guitar. I had a Fender just like you stading against the wall for years. I would sometimes try to play it but got bored and it really hurted my hands. Then I decided to buy a smaller guitar (travel size) as in small but still a guitar/not a ukelele, and voila Im hooked and can actually play some songs now.

Shelby, you are doing great. Keep going. You can sing a song with just two chords. Four chords are magic. Just put your heart and soul into it.

Completely agree, started learning again at january this year because of school at first,(stopped learning when the last school year ended, i did not like guitar last year)
but later on having found the motivation and goal to be able to play my favorite music really got me into guitar and a couple other instruments.
1st month was spent recalling chords and getting my fingers used to them
2nd till 4th month i played solely to get good grades (barely any progress made, school is painful but fun 😭)
5th month was when i discovered my favorite music and kinda got addicted
And finally 6th month rn i got an electric guitar 2 days ago and im on a roll learning things like i just found out what a whammy bar does a couple minutes ago.

But can it shred?
That guitar can't compare with the soothing ringing tones of a good acoustic steal string made from certain drift wood and the smell of the wood. That's one area were technology can't win.

What would’ve been cool to show as well would have been seeing her transition what she learned to her actual guitar. Since it’s only a tool that’s supposedly to teach you but not substitute for a guitar. Would’ve been nice to see if it’s worth purchasing based on her experience with her actual guitar after using the jamstik

I know this was a while ago, so I don’t know if you’re still at it, but if I can encourage you to stick with it, you have good guitar hands. Most importantly, your left hand that forms the chords. Straight fingers, well shaped for those barre chords with some practice. It’s a great starting point that not everyone is blessed with. Just buddy up with a guitarist to form those chords well and you’ll be better than you think by the end of the year.

A power chord is two strings at a time. You only strum the two strings. Place your pointer on the low E string anywhere and your ring finger two frets below on the A string and strum just the two top strings E and A.
well, as a guitarist and tutor i appreciate your effort in trying to learn an instrument :) i still think getting a real guitar (and tutor) remains the best way but this sort of apps/devices definitely offers good points to reflect on to improve our job as educators.
