Sam Rivers was one of the most important creative musicians of our time and people still don't hear it...!!! Listen, just Listen to everything Sam recorded from the early 60s until his very sad passing and then behold your ears will be opened.......shhhhhh just listen!!
Thanks for the upload... I saw these three gentlemen perform at the Salvador Dali Institute in Clearwater Florida. They were truly remarkable... switching instruments and yet still playing with the same drive, the same intensity. SUPERB!!
+Keith Bickerstaffe I saw them @ the Dali Museum. There was also a Man Ray exhibit @ the same time. Tremendous. Seen Sam in different configurations over a ten year period about 30 times in Central Florida. I remember that the museum had a grand piano @ the gig for Sam. I also remember how cool the folks were in Tampa who came to the gig. Very nice.
I discovered Rivers as a teen in the mid 80s and bought a lot of his albums at a jazz store in pioneer square downtown seattle along with other jazz musicians. His piano style was influenced a lot by Cecil Taylor imo. Sam Rivers is one of the all time greats.
Anthony Cole my favourite drummer..the best drummer in the world

Probably the most underrated horn player of his generation.

Unfortunately, Mr.Rivers was often never celebrated for being an accomplished pianist.
