My daughter loves the Taki's and she dips them in sour cream first, it tones the heat down but still keeps them yummy. Cracker Barell's entrance has a old time shop before you enter the restaurant portion, you can buy soda pop, candies, soaps, candles, kitchen goodies ... all kinds of stuff, and I've had those marshmallows, they are good. Butter Rum lifesavers ... my favorite, they bring back my childhood candy memories along with those chuckles which we always had. Cracker Barrel is AWESOME. It’s a southern style restaurant and store. The food is delicious with huge helpings and low prices. The store is overpriced, but has really neat stuff. Lots of fun games and toys, old fashioned sweets, and random things like household decor, shirts, cards, etc. They are also known for selling rocking chairs. Buckeyes from the buckeye tree are inedible to humans, though some animals can eat them. The snack buckeyes are similar to real ones only in shape and appearance, and are delicious. I often make them at home. Family loves them!

Barbara C - I’m a Kentuckian, but we have Buckeyes Trees too, though I haven’t seen any since I was a kid climbing them. My friends and I all carried Buckeyes in our pockets for luck. I just read they were supposed to bring fortune. I think I need to find one, lol! 😂
I love the homemade candy Buckeyes. I think they’re better than Reese’s Cups - if good chocolate is used (no paraffin like my mother used to add to the chocolate).

It's called Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. They serve food in restaurant, but attached is a little ship where you guy buy canned (you might say preserved) items. They also have clothes, other food, and toys. Everything is more country or old fashioned themed, however. I know usually out front of every store they have rocking chairs on the porch for sale. They usually have stone fire places inside the restaurant. The restaurant is just very old fashioned southern. I like some of the food, but some of the vegetables I think are just canned foods. Btw, you can also get Cracker Barrel cheese in super markets. It's usually sharp cheddar. We don't have blackcurrant here at all because during the early 1900s the logging industry was having issues with root rot and they blamed blackcurrant, so there was a ban on growing blackcurrants here. Thus, no one knows or remembers them unless they travel abroad. First time I had blackcurrants was in Australia. Russia is big on them too. Recently like the last couples years, a few states have lifted the ban and there are some places growing them again, but they are not widely known or popular. I think blackcurrant is my favorite thing. With regard to candy flavors, all the grape flavor, cherry, etc. is artificial so I do not really enjoy it.

Kentucky is famous for a few things other than KFC. The Kentucky Derby is one of the triple-crown horse races (along with the Belmont and the Preakness). Louisville Slugger baseball bats are made there. Bourbon originated there (Bourbon County, for which the spirit is named, is in Kentucky). And Muhammad Ali was born and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky.

I have an answer for you on why Hershey’s chocolate tastes so bad to Europeans. There wasn’t much chocolate in the U.S. before Hershey brought out his line. European chocolatiers used condensed milk to make milk chocolate. Hershey bought property in the middle of dairy country in Pennsylvania so he could buy fresh milk cheaply for his milk chocolate. However, you can’t use fresh milk in milk chocolate (I think it spoils or something). He worked for over a year to find a way to use his milk supply. A chemist found a way to use the milk, but it soured in the condensing process. Hershey liked the sour notes and kept it. They still use that process today, preserving the soured milk notes, which is what repels Europeans.
Incidentally, the Mars company brought out the Milky Way (your Mars Bar) shortly thereafter. Guess where they obtained their chocolate? Hershey’s. It was the only source for chocolate in the U.S. at the time. I don’t know why you don’t detect sour notes in their bars.
No other American chocolate companies have the sour notes of Hershey’s chocolate.
All this was in a documentary about American robber barons in the food industry in pre-WWI America. The Food That Built America. Fascinating series.
