I was about 11 and wanted my own garden.
Mostly started with flowers, but now I grow many vegetables.
My husband and I have 2 garden plots - his & hers, usually.
We grow over 1,000 garlic, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, greenbeans, broccoli, cucumbers, & many others.
I really love to start my own seed. That's the thrill for me. I'd say that's what got me started & seeing beans sprout in a container when I was even younger in Sunday School.
I wish our soil was easier to dig in.
Many years of composting & amendments has helped.
Only organic for us.

A little surprised at your lack of use of fertilizer...
It is a pain to top dress each bed with compost at the end of the season but make things very simple during the growing season! :)
