In my Episcopal diocese, you have to be conferred to the ministry of acolyte. It's not the same as being ordained, but it's similar. It is your priest that confers you. A chalice minister has to go through different training and is approved by the local bishop before being conferred by a priest. I have both ministries. I love serving CHRIST and his church.
Hey Chuck, I come from Germany and wanted to ask wether an acolyte is the same as an altar server. I wanted to spend a year in the US, and wrote in my first letter to the potential family, that I am an acolyte. Is it the same?
a.w.l. yea it's pretty much the same. If your 16 and older, your considered a Eucharistic minister. But if you are 16 and younger, then your an acolyte

I was an Acolyte in the Episcopal Church we had Torches in procession with the Crucifer, and the Crucifer took care of lighting the candles
