We are testing out a new video format with this! We have another one coming with Kate Nye in the next few days and we plan on doing long format multiple-hour versions of this in the future! For the Hawaii videos, we were actively avoiding asking questions and getting into extended discussions (you will notice many times where we could have asked a question to get more interesting information/details, but we didn't), just because both Harrison and Kate were about a week out from the Olympics at the time of shooting and we didn't want to cut into or negatively affect their preparation. This is meant as constructive criticism so hopefully it's taken as such, but it's about 10 minutes into the video and I genuinely think that 3/4ths of the time was spent talking about hookgrip, how bad it was and how it has gotten better, rather than talking about Harrison and his lifting. Again, not hating, I just think that that would be good as its own video and I feel like Harrison wasn't quite getting the focus he deserves here at least at the start.
Yeah there was definitely a bit too much talking about that at the start, I agree with that after seeing it. But I also never really do these things so it’s bound to take some refining. One thing I should mention is that I went into this video thinking I need to ask Harrison as few questions as possible and to not get into any in-depth discussions, because if you have ever listened to the ATG podcast then you know that I can go on for two or three hours in a discussion like that. So I was trying to make sure that Harrison and the viewers knew what they were looking at and why they were seeing what they were seeing, but I put a bit too much extra information around that. I think you will see other versions of this down the line be much more focused on the athlete and their training, methodology and strategy, for situations where I am not so focused on keeping it short and avoiding asking questions that will lead to longer discussions. This one might look awkward in sections where I don’t ask questions or followup on what Harrison is saying because all I was thinking was I can’t ask a follow-up question if I want to keep this somewhat reasonable. A lot of what I was saying during the lifts were purposefully things that wouldn’t lead to extended discussions, just more factual things and a little context for the viewer.
I spent so many hours just trying to figure out where in Honolulu they were at 😅 I know I couldn’t get into the center but was hoping to cross paths on the street
We sent him a request to do it but he didn’t respond. I think he is very focused on the Olympics right now. I’m sure we will do it with him at a future date.
Well, maybe 🤣 historically youtube has not done well enough for us to justify the effort. Not referring to ad revenue as we don’t put ads on the videos. But these video review things were something we have been wanting to do for a long time so hopefully the effort will be worth it. If not maybe the YT goes back into hibernation 🤣
