I remember cracking up when I first heard this song over 30 years ago. When I saw them live about 20 years ago Jack Grisham, the singer, let me sing part of this song on stage. Some of the most fun I have ever had at a show!
Your reactions went exactly how I expected…he was laughing at the absurdity and she was offended by the crassness. Perfect! I subscribed to your channel because of that honesty! This 1981 album, Dance with Me, by TSOL was the first record I ever bought with my own money back in ’84, I had just turned 13 yrs old. The musicianship of this band (Ron Emory is possibly the best guitarist from the 80’s era of punk) and the quality of the recording of this record allow it to hold up to this day. Code Blue itself is a whatever silly shock song, but like others have said in these comments, there are amazing songs on this record, the title track itself being my fav.
I can totally understand your wife's problem with this track its a stomach turner . Although keeping mind the original target demographic was the alianted males sophmoric from 13 years to 25 years in Orange County CA home of Ultra Violent punk rock no chick's liked this song .
Okay so I ended up finding this because the band shared the video. And while I agree the song is crass (I mean it's 80s punk rock and it's also death rock at the same time, of course it'll be out there) I wouldn't say this song is super representative of the album (even though I do love this song, it's just super over the top). I can highly recommend trying out the other songs, even if it's not a reaction. The triangle is super good, dance with me (the song is great) and silent scream (which honestly is a better pick for a Halloween reaction) to me is a classic Halloween song. Please do check out the rest of the album even if this song wasn't for you
☝☝☝ Jack Grisham is amazing and has a creative, slightly twisted sense of humor, Code Blue is just part of that. Rest of Dance with Me is equally great musically, without the super edgy lyrics
@@tearsforthedying oh yeah I definitely agree. I'm more looking at it from somebody who knows nothing about Grisham or tsols view lol is all and trying to suggest something they might like that isn't code blue
The whole point of the song is that the high school girls were such a pain, that he’d rather go f a corpse, not that he’s into grave robbing for action!
This year I started work at a new company. The boss is kinda a laid back dude, really into music, collects CDs and vinyl, listens to lots of different stuff, mostly 80's synthpop, but won't shy away from the occasional metal, rap, rock, whatever. He invites us to bring our music in to play at work. One coworker brought The Stranglers and the Talking Heads, so there was a nice vibe for some new wave goin' on. This one time I brought "Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols". Not the heaviest and most brutal of albums, right? Also kind of an entry point to punk, great production and great riffs, a great album. So he puts it on, goes about his business, and then halfway through he turns it off saying he was just shocked and couldn't focus at work. Like, seriously, The Sex Pistols made him unable to proceed with his day. This 40+ year old album shook this dude to his core, and we're talking about living in a world where heavier music (both musically and lyrically) is the norm. It's not even about the lyrics either, I live in Poland and my boss doesn't speak good English. It's just something about the band, the combination of these particular elements, that made him unseasy. Another time I brought "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" by the Dead Kennedys. He didn't stop it halfway, but also appeared uneasy, like he couldn't comprehend what he just heard. Usually after playing our personal albums that we bring to work, we have casual conversations about whether we liked them or not, etc. This time - dead silence, and he just switched over to the radio. So yeah, even after all those years there are still some people who are baffled and bamboozled when they hear good ol' punk.
That's so funny, especially since those bands tend to be more on the melodic side. I feel like so much music *tries* to go hard and be less palatable now and ends up being boring for it. There was something both appealing but also nerve-racking about old school punk. I remember as a teen, Op Ivy was the first "old" punk band I heard and I just had no classification for it. My idea of punk before that was this insurmountable idea of spit and snarl and completely indigestible noise. But then I heard Op Ivy and was like, this sounds bad by modern production standards but... I kinda like it. Pretty much dove in headfirst at that point, and I often forget how many people, including people who might like more modern, studio produced punk, may not have ever been exposed to the older stuff.
I’ve given up trying to explain punk to norms… especially when they get condescending about it. So glad I never lost my love for punk… and if it makes the normies uncomfortable, tough
😹😹😹 This is hilarious But I highly suggest you listen to the rest of this album!! Don’t judge off one song, this band has been around since the 80s and still continue to make new albums and have amazing live shows! Also make sure to look up the short story film to this song, Code Blue A Love Story

TSOL were actually part of a sub-genre of punk known as "Death Rock," which was essentially the American version of Gothic rock. Other bands in the genre included 45 Grave and Christian Death.

I have officially stop watching you after this embarrassing post. No matter what your personal thoughts are, you are suppose to be reacting to a song from beginning to end. You have no idea if the songwriter had deeper intentions with the lyrics as maybe showing you the insane levels he would go to to avoid the pain of another breakup. Hahahaha come on!! You have to love some T.S.O.L. Such a great song to ease them into it haha
Keep in mind, it's 40 years old. Back when drinking and driving was no big deal 🤯
Squares.
Lol, ok.
Aw... poor baby. The song is 50 years old.
it's 45 years old, was 42 when you left that comment
I love True Sound, seen them a couple times in the Siouxer & it was great every time. Slayer does a cover of superficial love. & for whatever reason I now wanna listen to The Humpers.
Whatever the writers thoughts you wait till the end and then comment. Turning it off because it offended you was disrespectful to the artist. Grow up.
Boohoo…. Cry me a river.
Lol loved the reaction....
This was the only creepy song they did. Waiting For You would have been better to listen to imo.
