As a letter carrier this is so important to me and my family that this is finally getting some light, the fact that my favorite political show is covering it makes it all that much better. Thanks everyone for your support
I'm Canadian, CanPost is on strike, & every time some chud bitches about why they don't "settle", I ask them why management doesn't give them a fair offer. I support CanPost striking even tho it personally means more struggle for me as a disabled person. I'm ok with the inconvenience. I support them & I hope they get an excellent contract that's well deserved + overdue. Go, canPost folks!
❤❤ omg thanks so much for covering this! I've been wondering why this issue has been getting passed over so often. Ive been a CCA for almost a year and people have no idea how challenging this job is. Walking 15- 20 miles a day, 6 days a week. Thousands of peices of mail, hundreds of packages. Those trucks are packed to the ceiling with parcels. I've been working almost 60 hour weeks for 6 weeks now. Doing my full route then doing sections of other routes for 2-3 more hours. Routes are supposed to be 8 hours, most are 10 hours and you're expected to do it in 8. Delivering in the dark now. The starting pay is NOT worth the effort, making fastfood / retail wages starting out. It's not the goodjob everyone thinks it is. Yes, it becomes one after you put in like 5 years but until you put years in, you're getting exploited and taken advantage of. Honestly, it's a disgrace the conditions we have to deal with
This is truly how it is in many places. In areas where Amazon is contracted, CCAs are delivering every Sunday and nearly every Holiday. Letter Carriers practically live at work. In other offices there is no overtime at all, and after all deductions you’re making less than $2,500 a month. How do you pay rent and maintain a vehicle to be regular in attendance if you’re not even able to meet your basic needs?
This is supposed to be a career, but it has become a sweat-shop job. My rent is 75% of my take-home pay when I work 40 hours per week. I haven't been able to save money for two years and my wife just got into an accident, so copays wiped out my savings. We're now chipping at her inheritance that was set aside for retirement. FML, we are heading down a dark road and I'm queer in a gay marriage. How do I feel about the election? Just like those who actually believed that Trump was robbed in 2024. The "why" of it doesn't track.
Was already a listener. Thank you very much for covering this though. The entire working class is underpaid. Dejoy, USPS President made over half a million dollars last year. Corporate greed affects everyone and we have to fight back!
The job of letter carrier is a dangerous job. It's not just dog bites and bad weather but gunfire, being on people's porches at 8pm with nothing more to defend yourself than a headlamp and dog spray. Carriers have lost their legs from being hit by distracted or intoxicated drivers while working out of the back of mail trucks. From our local office, a new carrier was delivering Amazon parcels on a holiday, it was horribly snowy, they spun out on an unplowed hill into traffic and sustained permanent brain damage ending their career.
The postal service can meet is every day obligations. It can not meet its funding requirements for pensions and medical benefits for retires. 1. The USPS must project funds for its pension and Healthcare costs for retires. 2. The USPS must also pay COLAS (cost of living adjustments) that other government agencies don't have too. When their is a short fall in funding for other agencies, congress simply passes an appropriations bill to fill the gap. They do not do that for the postal service. 3. The Postal service also must take on military veterans pensions even if they only served 10 years with usps. 4. The Postal service can not diversify its investment portfolio. The usps can only invest in US treasures. With interest rates having been historically low for decades, yields on those investments have been minimal. The last 4 years inflation has outpaced yields causing the usps to LOSE money. A study was done by a private firm and it concluded if the postal service was able to diversify its funds 60 % stock, 40% bonds, the usps would have run a 950 billion plus surplus. Start there, and you'll get your answer why the postal service posts losses every year.
Id like to add earlier start times in negotiations to get carriers off the street earlier to be able to raise our kids and take care of our parents and get off the street before dark to avoid night safety hazards , this should be included in negotiations.
Renfro sold everyone out. He not only "negotiated" shit pay, agree to non career, agreed to route cuts and layoffs, cheerleader for dejoys SDCS and mail delays, excuses for postal management mismanaged funds as why they can't pay labor BUT say they can work 16hr days for 2.5x pay... so you got money for ot but not living wage. On top of that released a paychart of the "tentative agreement" with step increases and "projected" colas factored into it to fluff the numbers to misleading carriers who don't know. Also only the top step get those projected colas Not to mention! Health insurance raised way higher than 1.3% ALSO carriers in step C-O get no reduction of steps to top pay. If you already went through the first 3 steps they're going to eliminate... tough... it's dead time you don't move up 3 steps. You still take 13 years to hit top pay. It's a joke along with a kick in the balls
13% behind inflation (pay cut) and climbing at step P (top step). This new contract doesn't even touch it at 1.3%. No hazard pay. No protections for carriers. Safety can be disregarded by carriers. Never recognized as "essential workers" even though UPS was. We delivered UPS's "last mile" during that time, as we do for every package company. No localized increases for high cost of living areas. No all-career workforce. Not competitive with UPS, where even our national union president is only shooting for 87% of UPS, at 10 years of service (+2 years as a CCA). UPS has a temp worker waiting period that can be long (2 - 5 years), but only 4 steps (years) to top pay with fully covered benefits once you become a driver. We protested for a NO vote and 20 people showed up with five being from my station alone. Out of 600 local members. People think that visibility doesn't matter. It really, really does. Get the word out. Be vocal! Don't block the sidewalks and you don't need a megaphone.
I'm not a fan of the guy (Trump or Dejoy).... but if I'm being honest, the last two years we have negotiated under the most "pro-labor" administration of all time (Biden).... and got no where😂...... the government Will government
1.3% increase for 2023,2024,2025 with colas. Top step carriers barely hit 40$ an hour at the end of the contract. They removed the first two major steps of the pay table for new carriers but didn’t move everyone up two steps (how does that make any sense) I just got to step C (3rd step) and it took me two years. So basically, every new carrier gets a large pay bump and I get a significantly underwhelming raise. I have worked 60 hours a week 6 days a week for the past two years with no hesitation. And the most they can give me is 3.9%??? Make it make sense lol
@@bslay6968 So what. Whats the problem with health insurance coverage going up? So did car insurance, gas and food prices. You voted for 20% inflation 4 years ago.
@@Mark-cm4hythat 11.5% figure is for top step. They got 3.9%+an extra $1,000(1.3%)+COLAs ($2,329+$2,309 projected) that equals 11.5% For lower steps they are projecting larger raises due to step increases, which happen every 46 weeks. It’s a 2.73% increase every 46 weeks.
