A couple things you might want to try on the original holder would be to taper the end of the locking bolt and make an appropriate size dimple in your drift,or better yet, drop a ball bearing into the threaded hole before the locking bolt.

Looks great, but why not drill the holes with a bench press with the work piece clamped down?
I don't have a drill press. At least not in the shop.
