One thing my family does is when we got merlin passes so we go lots and we found that arriving when u can and then going on rides as u go to the ride u wanna go on really helps as u may bump into some short que times.

We always bring our own food but the chicken nuggets from near tomb blaster are amazing

So as someone who's doing the
Merlin trifecta in the south, next week (Chessington, Legoland & Thorpe) And you're talking about rope-drop, what roughly is the gate opening times in comparison to the ride opening times? Because I recall Alton Towers allows access into the park at 9, whilst the rides open at 10.
In Thorpe Park and Chessington, the rides generally open with the park at 10am. In Legoland, the gates will open at 9:30am and rides will open at 10am, similar to Alton Towers. Hope that helps!

In your opinion, is Thorpe Park or Chessington better catered for families with children aged between 7 - 12
Chessington for sure. Thorpe park is definitely more for Thrillseekers!
Is 4 year old (100cm) too young for chessington? Will it be better value to go few years later?
No, 4 is a great age to visit Chessington, it's a super family friendly park!
At 100cm, they won't be able to ride a couple of the big rides (Vampire, Dragon's Fury, Tiger Rock) but they will love Zufari, Gruffalo, Scorpion Express and many more! 🦁

Some rides differ but I believe most rides it’s either 120 130 140 and 100

Not buying tickets online , ahead of the day, might be because people would rather wait until they’re actually there before they spend money, what if on the day someone isn’t well, or if the weather is atrocious and the money is already spent, you won’t get it back
That's a good point, but we'd still recommend it! It's nearly £20 cheaper per ticket when you buy online, and you can do it the night before. For example, a ticket tomorrow will cost £57 at the gate but can be bought for £39 right now.
Then you would check the weather in advance surely

Another AMAZING tip is to eat your lunch in a long queue as to not waste time whilst eating at a table, out of a line or ride
