I really enjoyed the video, but I was hoping to hear more about the rack setup and the rest of the Surly Ogre bike as well! You covered some great points, but a deeper dive into how the racks are mounted, what kind of load they can handle, and any other unique features of the bike would’ve been awesome. I’m sure others watching are curious too, especially those of us who are considering the Ogre for bikepacking or daily commuting. The little details can make all the difference, so I’d love to see that in future videos! Keep up the great work!
Great points, I’ve now sold the ogre after completing my cycle around Australia 🇦🇺 my next big adventure is walking from Cottesloe beach in WA to Bondi Beach in NSW possible start late March or early April 2025, plus a few place inbetween
I will need to watch this in spurts. I’m in class today. May I ask about the adjustable handlebar stem, who laced your wheels, and which saddle do you use? I might have other questions as I watch more. Tell me if I’m a bother though. Thank you, Steph
I forget the name of that saddle but I have changed back to my brooks saddle, the lacing was done by CAPT Morgan's bike shop that used to be in Fremantle WA but I think they have no moved
Nice ride. Love the Ogre. Too much electrical nonsense. It's just a philosophical difference. Looking forward to your ride. Cheers from Montreal QC Canada.
Nice, but you gotta sharpen your camera technique. I was getting a bit of motion sickness from the constant movement, twisting and turning. Been told that there are towns along the way that you can restock your supplies at. You can minimize a bit as well. Looks like you're (or were) packing a lot of stuff. Hopefully with this tour under your belt, you've learned a bit of what you need and what is excess.
@Lostdigger9216 - Sorry for the late reply, I've been hiking around Australia. From early November I will be cycling around Australia on my Surley. My Panniers front and rear are Ortlieb's, compacted and water proof. My set up is ready for tubeless if I need to change over.
That rear cassette is way to small! Especially with all that weight! Largest ratios available on 10 speed are 11-46 and 11-48,sunrace and micro shift 🙂👍🏻
Ogre is a pretty decent bike,i recentlygot a breezer radar and love it..i typed into google German touring bicycles...I now wish I didn't,omg there's some insane tour bikes ...love the munda biddi, did 3.5 e2e back 2 back, gearing up for a winter ride this year,it's all about the enjoyment at your own pace
100% its all about the ride, I'm preping to circumnavigate Australia starting Nov this year. I have no time limit. I recently changed both wheels to hold more weight
@@lostdigger Thanks Bro! did you stick with that sleeping mat all around Australia and how did you find it. Also how did you find the Surly Ogre I have ordered one.
standard issue came with, Surly Ogre does have an option depending on the dealerships. I choose these for storage and the extra space it offers@@offthegriddownunderaustral8814
Curious about you gearing on your chainring and cassette as far as size. Will you be doing a trial run to see how the weight works for you? Looks like an awesome setup.
I just finished the Munda Biddi Trail in WA, 1065km across country on MBT trails and some very rough country. handled it great. my gears is 3 in front and 10 in the rear. more suited to bikepaking on road, trails and sand.
How much weight do you think your carrying? I have an Ogre. I have the WTB i29 rim with extraterrestrial tires, the tires were a nightmare to get off the rim when I went tubeless.
Thanks for your comment, the weight of bike is 13.8kg, with all the gear including the racks it weights 36.9kg not including water. the Ogre handled it like a champ. once you find your balance anything is possible. taken it into a Surly expert to see about getting upgraded to belt driven!
@@waynerogers7839 After ride I took bike into a Surly dealer ,got a quote for belt drive every expensive. if purchase a new bike I will definitely go down this route.
24kg without water, I had to fit new rims for heavy duty ones for when I circumnavigate Australian Nov 2023. I’ve decided not to go tubeless but set up if I need, so many different reviews regarding. Awesome bike the “Landrover” of bike packing 🤪
Your sound levels are very very low. Struggled to hear what you were saying even using a headphone right inside my ear. Also could hardly see your bike as your lighting was very poor as you have a black bike against a white back ground so your camera metering system thinks the scene is very bright and closes down the lens meaning pretty much all shadow detail is lost ie your bike which is dark. Such a shame.
You want a dream machine...take your bike to the frame builders in Perth...ask them to split the frame for you...put a belt drive Rholoff hub in...a Son Dynamo hub in the front...and hit the road...you wil never turn around and come home again....
I asked about that at cycles despok, was cheaper to buy new. I have now charged all the rims for heavy duty for when I circumnavigate Australian in Nov 2023
At the moment I also get built a new ogre. Also with the crazy bar. First time i see that bar on a bike and its also a Ogre. Perfect 🙂
It’s a great fit for my style of riding, I’m currently still cycling around Australia and finding it great

Hello from Denmark - great video! What brand are your front and rear racks - is that Tubus? They seem to fit nicely with the 29. tires? :)

Its the large frame, I'm 6 foot, wanted something that I could ride for my size. Best bike I've ever brought.
