- My attempt at pancakes fails miserably!
A short paddle exploring the north-eastern part of Norfolk Broads. Hickling Broad to West Somerton. I'm out in my Easky 15 Venture Kayak. I' call in to Martham boats and the Ferrygate campsite and through Martham broad channel.
My wild camp is just off the River Thurne. I'm using my Vango Hydra 200 tent.
In total 17.8km paddled.
Thanks for watching - Развлечения
Lovely video Andrew, I am very fond of West Somerton as that is where my auntie lived, we would always do a circular walk along the broads, and we would always stop off at a little beach overlooking Martham broad (which I believe you can't canoe/boat in) and would have a picnic and swim, very happy memories. Hope you are doing well, and once again thank you for the informative email you sent me, I really appreciated it, kind regards, Ben
Thanks Ben. Wishing you every success 👍🏻
Fabulous spot to camp! The kayak was just brilliant for the paddle back up the Broad. At least the pancake(s) were the right colour, unlike the chicken and roast spuds on the Bure trip!!!
Great stuff Andrew - an enjoyable vlog. It was good to hear the warblers songs around where you were camping. The West Somerton area is lovely. I stayed there this spring and enjoyed some good paddling and bird watching.
The bird life around there is fantastic. I especially loved it on my canoe trip in May...the morning air was full of bird songs. Thanks 👍🏻
A "stronghold" of the Swallowtail butterfly......................🤩
@lauriebloggs8391 Yes indeed! In fact, I was lucky enough to film one. ruclips.net/video/TY7WFavozGU/видео.htmlsi=waB1Po2ASoCZnMG1. 5:50
How could I have missed that? Spectacular!! @@divum 👍👍
I have seen one when canoeing that stretch, but to have filmed one.....fabulous.
So peaceful on these kayak trips.
ขอบคุณ.
Another great video of the broads love all your videos canoe and biking .
That's great to read. Thanks so much for your support.🛶👍🏻🚴🏼
Love these videos thank you very much Andrew 👍🏻
Awesome. Thanks. 👍🏻
Love that put in at hickling, even avoiding all the duck and goose do do....
Thanks very much. Actually I did get some goose guano on a couple of my dry-bags! Argh...no problem, I just rinsed it off in the Broad.
@divum I literally live a mile away too. Very convenient for me.
That's awesome, beautiful place to live.
@divum let me know when your local, if I'm off work I'll pop down.
Pancakes looked amazing my friend 😂.
Too kind, from the Dutch Capital of Pancakes! 🥞 (crapes and waffles!) Thanks, Bart.
Great video. Looks like a fun adventure. Something I would love to try sometime.
Thanks Gareth. It's a change from cycling! 🛶👍🏻
I think we're due some more decent weather in early August so hopefully Summer is still with us😊😊
I'd welcome that!
Great and inspiring video, cheers. I've yet to go wild camping on the Broads.
Thanks for watching and your comment. The Broads is excellent for wild camping. Give it a go!
@@divum Well, I've got the gear, just not seen any places I've ever felt comfortable doing it to be honest. I'm also worried about how high the water rises during the night. All tips are very welcome though;)
I understand. 🫡. Tidal water is not really significant in the Broads. There are lots of free mooring sites for crafts. I don't see an issue with using one of these spots as a wild camp. I see many boats erecting small fisherman tents etc next to their craft. You might share the mooring, or you might get lucky and be the only one... especially outside high season 👍🏻🛶
@@sodiumlights If you watch "Divums" other videos on paddling/canoeing around the Broads, you will see many sites that it can be done, especially, as he says, if done out of the school holidays. Tidal rise and fall varies around the Broads, but again as he says, is not really significant. Be discreet, and leave absolutely no mark of your passing.
I appreciated the factoid on the fish you were seeing (and scaring you-I jumped too at the huge swirl right next to your kayak) as Tench. I looked up the species on the interwebs (Wkipedia). It seems this species has some economic value: “Tench, particularly golden Tench, are also kept as ornamental fish in ponds and canals, as they are bottom feeders that help to keep the waterways clean and healthy.”. Did I need to know this about Tench? No, not at all, but a good video like this one (with the man-eating Broads Tench Monsters) impelled me to find out more. Carry on, keep up the good work.
Ha...Man-eating tench! I'm not a fisherman and no expert, but someone who knows the Broads said large tench are in those shallows.
Thanks for watching and your comment. All the best..🛶👍🏻
Hi Andrew, great video as ever.May I ask what folding chair you have and place of purchase.cheers
Hi Andy,. Its a HELINOX GROUND CHAIR. I bought it from Amazon. Its not cheap, but it is very lightweight and packs small. It also does the job! You can see it in my other videos for more info. Thanks for asking👍🏻
How do you like this kayak? Are you having the skeg down? Seems it tracks very well.
It's a nice stable kayak. Pretty light weight. Versatile. Yes, I'm always using the skeg. It makes a big difference. I like it. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
