Modern corporations are made up of "arms", Microsoft included, so the people who designed the X-box aren't necessarily the same ones designing Windows.
My Xbox I played at my grandmas would display that same screen no matter the disk after initial start up. Had to listlen to music for 15 or 20 minutes and then it would work flawlessly. I literally called it warming up the Xbox. Me at 10 and my cousin 6 or 8 listening to let the bodies hit the floor on repeat is a childhood memory that will never be forgotten. I’m 27 now.
Man, these consoles really were a thing of beauty weren't they. I mean, I love my Series X, but the originals just had character. Crystal is making a bit of a comeback and I couldn't be happier, the nostalgia is real.
Well done in less in 30 minutes! Ever since i liked this video, had a different uploader but almost an hour, 2 hours to fully diy fix 😂😂😂😂❤ master of ur craft my dude subscribed!
Actually you should increase the resistance, neither reduce it. By this case with 3210 Ohms you've lowered the voltage of laser beam, so I assume it now won't even focus to even recognize the discs. I prefer tweaking it between stock value up to 1000 Ohms to see the result. If it still don't want to read games, I'll recommend to replace the electrolytic capacitors on main DVD drive board to make it work again and tweak the resistance on laser beam to stock values (1750 Ohms). This is a common issue with Samsung DVD drives, not the lasers themselves. Give it a try.
Nice work bro, I have a crystal Xbox as well! Only problem is the clock doesn’t work unfortunately :/ I would like to work on it but I’m not confident enough to take it apart and fix it, I’d rather work with someone or learn a lot of other stuff then get 2 that
The best way to learn before doing anything yourself first, but with the clock capacitor, l would just take it out and not replace it, buddy they are known for going and thank you for watching it's much appreciated 😃
Clear Plastic is just clear for our visible spectrum, could be different for another. That the black caps of IR lights for instance, or the black plastic of PS1 games. It looks opaque to our eyes, but in infrared it isn't. So the color doesn't say a lot about the Retrobright effect, it's more the type of plastic. But that's a topic, I have zero knowledge about 🙂.
Sadly, l didn't make a video on my UV box but odd thinkering on youtube does have a video that will have out and thank you for watching it's much appreciated 😃
Half way through the cleaning with alcohol I thought “what if he is just absolutely destroying this and the video is actually a joke?” 😂 I’m glad it wasn’t!
I have reused the peroxide in the past with the clock/date capacitor. I wouldn't replace it. l would just leave it out and be done with it to be fair. Thank you for watching it's much appreciated 😃 PS, I should have taken out when it was apart. Save me from going back to it at a later date
It's kinda looks brand's new at the start. As in it was baught new , opened and out in a cardboard box in a storage unit for the past 20 year and now is just taken out
I think this is my most favourite restaurant video I've done so far . You really see the difference, and thank you for watching it's much appreciated ❤️ 😀
Good video, basically the same format and editing as Odd Tinkering but nice to watch either way. [Edit] I've looked at your channel and it seems like you've just plagiarized the entire concept, even the thumbnails.
Tweaking the Pot of the Laser will just reduce the lifetime of the laser, nothing else. If cleaning the lens isn't successful, there is for sure dust/smokers dirt (this one for sure was in a smokers room) on the half transparent mirror under the lens. Sometimes it's possible to reach this mirror, spray a throttled amount of air over it. I even had success with contact cleaner for a very dirty laser (takes some time to let the cleaner vaporize). But that should be the last step as it can make it even worse.
Adjusting the pot can help but should be a last ditch thing because, yeah, will decrease the lifespan. Although if you're at the stage where you're needing to adjust the pot to get it to read, lifespan isn't a concern anymore as it's already cooked.
Looking back at it, I wish l did take it out. l wouldn't replace it. l could put up with the clock and date at the start and just skip it and thank you for watching 😃
@@techrestoread The crystal console has a 1.6 board and doesn't suffer the clock capacitor issue of the other versions, besides, the 1.6 will not operate without the clock capacitor so you did well to leave it there.
How? Ive had mine forever and it doesnt look no where near that bad.😅 I bought it off of ebay, modded it with homebrew and stuck a bunch of iso. on the 500gb HDD.
@@techrestoread that is true. No smokers or pets in my home. I'm sure the inside of it is pretty dusty though. I try to vaccum off all of my consoles once a quarter.

Some plastics tend to "yellow" over the years, and this can happen with clear plastic too. It has to do with some of the chemicals inside the plastic breaking down. The Super Nintendo was *really bad* with this, and not all of the case components had this problem. So you end up getting this gagworthy patchwork of case parts that look almost new while others look horrible. And this pattern even differs between decks.
This is not some special "crystal edition" the reason why it is in clear plastic is because it was made for use in a prison, it is clear so the guards who do cell inspections can make sure prisoners have not hidden drugs or weapons inside.
That was the first thing I was thinking. The problem is while it might pass the "paper regulations", there are still plenty of places where contraband can be hidden if it was taken apart. I suspect this was something that normally couldn't be bought off of commissary (imagine street price plus the huge prison markup) but rather it would be in a day room of a juvenile detention facility, and the clear plastic would prevent an inmate from being able to quickly hide contraband by simply slipping it into a crevice in the unit's casing.
It's how l like to do it even if I just put some on and squish. Some will say I'm not putting enough on, or I'm putting too much on, but thank you for watching 😃
That's a really elegant internal build, Microsoft. I didn't know you had it in you.
That was like microsoft's prime years lol not anymore
Modern corporations are made up of "arms", Microsoft included, so the people who designed the X-box aren't necessarily the same ones designing Windows.

Damn this is nostalgic. I’ll forever regret selling this console, such a unique design and the clear shell made it even more so.

Nostalgic. I used to take these apart all the time and had them modded by a friend. Crazy
I have one of the exact same ones, it’s even boxed!
Never, and I mean NEVER sell it.
Check those boards to make sure they aren't fried from the battery acid
