    Some commenters don't seem to be aware this is from a time when dramas like this were transmitted live on TV. That's why the camera work is stiff and you can hear background noise often. It's essentially filmed as a play with limited sets and no outdoor scenes, which is why the wedding isn't even in a church. Given these restrictions it's actually not bad.

      Thank you for your defending of this version of Jane Eyre. This adaptation was barely an hour long. Why people expect so many of these versions to faithfully follow the written word, when time and budget alone dictates the need for deviations, astounds me. Even though I am not a fan of Charlton Heston, he certainly portrayed Mr. Rochester very well.

    I like how they included the "Good night, my--" line. Rochester's omission expresses so much.

    This is interesting. This story has always held my attention. I like them in the roles. Especially because they are more equally matched in age. I just wish they had filmed it more like a movie but I realize this was recorded as live theater.

    They took Jane's best lines and gave them to him. She's too old and too American but he is masterly and forceful in just the right way. Nice one Chuck.

    @Capitolinattic I too would love to have all the Jane Eyre's. My dad HATES Jane Eyre so I take every chance i get to talk about it with him. He asks me how many I plan to watch and I tell him however many they make that I can find.

    • @cultmamacultmama3571
      @cultmamacultmama3571 5 лет назад +3

      That is the best version EVER, so far - and I am writing this in late 2019, and have seen pretty much everything that has anything to do with Jane Eyre or with the Brontes in general :-) The second best for me would be the Michael Fassbender one, but the Toby Stephens version remains the best.

      Yes the best version ever! Toby Stevens the best Rochester to date they nailed the look completely Ruth Wilson

    Either the uploads missed a few episodes or the writing was very poor indeed. Perhaps it was written with a very stringent budget in mind! I like Charlton Heston's acting, but not in this movie...in this one he is very cold and stiff like most method actors. This is as enjoyable (not) to watch as the George C Scott version. I much prefer the Toby Stephens and the Timothy Dalton versions.

    • @janicetehie3839

      Timothy Dalton made a marvelous Mr. Rochester, the best by far, I think.

    Dagnabit, get some decent writers! Seriously, this script sounds forcefully poetic. And while I applaud Mary Sinclair and Charlton Heston for trying, neither of them did very well in these roles. Especially Sinclair. She is way too breathy and sweet and... pretty. Heston certainly had the looks, voice, height and voice for Rochester, but a terrible lack of depth

    • @marymagmartha7453

      Deborah Ingle “Dagnabit” - my Dad promised my Mom not to curse around the children, but I did hear this word quite often😉

      I have not seen this version for some reason. From this clip it does seem like Mary Sinclair is too pretty and Charlton Heston lacks the incredible sorrow over his situation that Orson Welles displays.

    Never knew this version existed. It's awful! Her age just hits you- his all American looks, and accent contradict the whole story, I love Heston, but he doesn't fit! And the writing is so bad...why do this at all?
