I have very sensitive and pimple prone skin with dry patches and have been using the ordinary squalane over my moisturizer. for one year now I love it because it does not break me out, smells nothing, and it leave a kind of soft "layer" on my skin that is not greasy, and it really helps with dry patches. So to sum up: squalane is a good moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm very acne prone with combo skin and have been using pure squalane oil for a year or so. I find it helps SO MUCH with my under eye dryness, and I put it all over my face too in the Fall/Winter months. I didn't get one dry patch last Winter & it never breaks me out as it's non comedogenic. I think people love it due to it's stability (more stable than coconut oil). If you'd like to try it for cheap The Ordinary has a bottle for like 5 bucks. I also use it on top of my retinol treatment. It's just awesome for dry skin in the winter, and you can use it all over your body!

I am 55 and typically assumed to be in my late 30s. I have two basic premises in my skincare routine. 1. Skincare is additive. There is no holy grail besides consistency. The various products you use all contribute. 2. Variety is good.
I have replaced moisturizer with facial oils and rotate through a variety of them morning and night. Squalane is one of these. I have not noticed anything that makes it standout from my other plant based oils. It absorbs easily. It's non-greasy. So with your information on it, I will not quit using it but I will certainly consider whether to continue using it when this bottle is empty. I blend my own facial oils as well as purchase them. With so many options not replacing it will certainly be a consideration.
Thank you for your always good information.

I started using squalene a couple of year ago and I noticed a considerable improvement around my eyes with regard to fine lines. I was applying eyeshadow one day and noticed that the fine lines around my eyes had most definitely improved. I was applying the oil on the orbital bone area. I used the brand PURE from Timeless skincare (also from amazon) and others (Sanitas, Biossance) and found the PURE one to be the best and it's only $9 or $10. I use it on my skin because it alleviates the dry feeling and I just love it. My skin says thank you every time I put it on. It's a real winner for me!

I love when she says, “well, hey guys.” It makes me so happy. I use the oil as an occlusive emollient prior to plane rides because the air is dry and cause intense Transepidermal water lost. best to put squalane oil on before moisturiser apparently as the molecules are bigger. Moisturiser molecules are smaller so moisturiser goes on first then the oil, that way everything gets to your skin properly, otherwise the oil just sits on top :)

I love squalene oil as a moisturizer. I have normal/oily skin in the T-zone and dry skin everywhere else, and I find this especially great in the winter when my cheeks are literally chapped. I also like this after a peel since there isn't anything about it that would cause irritation. I've recently started using Retin-A and this helps soften the dry patches, and helps with the overall appearance of dry skin.
This does NOT leave a greasy feel like mineral oil. I also do prefer "clean beauty" products so this is a great alternative for those of us who don't want to use mineral oil. I am well aware what Dr. Dray thinks of "clean" products but to each her own - I also said PREFER, because I'm not a hardcore and still sprinkle conventional products in my routine... like Retin-A. I try to do my best to look up each ingredient in the products I use so I can make the chose to use it or not which is why I love Dr. Dray's videos! Super informative.

It has improved my dry skin, it has helped decrease fine lines and I just love the way it makes my thirsty skin feel soft, smooth and comfortable. Also, it doesn't clog pores at all! I am a 50 year old male with mixed, chronically dehydrated, sensitive skin.
Thank you for all your fun and Informative posts!

I feel like it’s the only
Oil I have used that has
    Not broken me out with
    Clogged pores or Pimples
    But also doesn’t seem that
    Moisturising. So definitely
Pros and Cons. I apply it
After shaving my face or washing
In the shower to stop skin drying
    Out.

Its one of the only moisturizers that doesnt irritate my psoriasis...dermatitis and eczema and actually heals it and makes it better and ive tried everything!!!!!!!Honestly feel like i cant live without squalene...and my bf too uses it and it makes his skin have such a healthy radiany glow. We have the 8 dollar good molecules kind and it doesnt clog our pores either..its a grail for us!

I've suffered from acne and psoriasis forever, and once I incorporated squalane into my routine, I stopped breaking out, and my skin is so smooth! My under eye wrinkles look way better, too! An $8 bottle has lasted me almost 3 months and it's still half full! I would love an updated video from her about it because I never want to live without this product again!

I used squalane in the dropper bottle for my body care. I added it to the moisturiser and it did make it more emollient. Apart from that I noticed no additional benefit from squalane. My extremely dry skin didn’t improve significantly. It didn’t do any harm, I went through the whole bottle. But it didn’t do anything extra. I’m not going to buy it again.
As for using it for my face, I also suspect that it’s like adding more sebum to my already combination skin.

Everyone hyped up squalene so much that it would help balance oils or whatever because it is similar to your skin's natural oils but any lotion or makeup product that contains squalene has always broken me out like horribly inflamed beneath the skin breakouts.

I think squalane is alright since it is naturally present on our skin, therefore our skin should be more susceptible to receive it and not clog pores as petrolatum does to some people. Squalane oxidation may cause acne but it should be combatted with the use of sunscreen. Perhaps squalane is a good emollient to add to moisturisers .

"Suffering" from both SD and rosacea, finding the right moisturizer is mission imposible. I also have extremely dry, flaky skin, so I use it as an emolient before make-up, which I do from time to time. I'd rather use this SD-friendly oil to a potentially irritating primer. It helps to smooth the flakiness and general driness. But, yes, it does not seem to have added benefits. I still need the power of a cream.

I am really enjoying this product! It is lovely and soooo moisturizing!

So I come to Dr. Dray to get her pick and she’s the only one that’s telling it like it is. I mean she didn’t knock it down, but it’s not doing anymore than what mineral oil or petrolatum would do for my skin. Thank you Dr. Dray. You’re the real MVP!

I used Mayumi squalane oil years ago. It was the only product that I have ever used that made my skin look absolutely flawless. However, over time I started to have an allergic reaction to it and had to give it up. For some reason I have developed an allergy to several products that I used in the past with no problems.

For me, squalane has helped a lot because I have seborrheic dermatitis and so many moisturizers cause flare ups, but this doesn't. I don't think it is doing anything magical other than keeping me moisturized but I'm glad to have something that isn't causing flaking on my eyebrows. I will say if I use too much at one time I get more breakouts.

I use cheap 100% squalane from amazon (around $12 for 2 oz). It has made a considerable difference in my skin texture (increased softness) and seems to work synergistically with my hadalabo collagen serum. My current routine is the hadalabo premium collagen, followed by squalane, followed by cerave moisturizer with ceramides on top (I source this cerave cheaply from Costco in bulk). This is the cheapest and by far most effective routine I’ve ever devised, and I’m quite pleased. It’s not a miracle but squalane has made more of a difference in my skin than many much more expensive skin products - however I am not prone to acne so that certainly might change another’s experience. Thanks for the video Dr. Dray!

It’s especially nice for sensitive areas like the corners of my eyes when my skin is still adjusting to the .08% tretinoin from the .06%.

I use The Ordinary Squalane Oil when my skin is drier or just has some dry spots. I mix a drop or 2 into my Cera Ve PM Moisturizer (which I use for daytime, due to the AM version pilling when I put anything on over it). The squalane oil mixed with my moisturizer really improves the drier areas of my skin better than moisturizer alone. It also does not break me out. I love it!

I used The Ordinary Squalane and my skin went CRAZY, I got an acne crisis (at my 28 years old) and I NEVER had acne problems before. My dermatologist was convinced that I had to start using Accutane. I was a little scared, so I tried to go on a different direction, instead she recommended Differin, Doxiciclin (3 months), Benzoyl Peroxide and monthly visits to her office. After 8 months of treatment I am much better now (currently using Tretinoin), but would definitely NOT recommend.

I also added in tretinoin twice a week. Im a new mom so I hardly wear makeup anymore. My skin is hydrated and glowing and I haven't had any breakouts for four weeks.
