    Panther Den Hiking Trail Q & A:
    1. How rugged in the Panther Den Hiking Trail? This trail is moderately difficult with horseback usage as well as potential horse damage, creek crossings, rocky/rooted surfaces and rolling hills. This trail is not suitable for handicap patrons.
    2. How long is Panther Den hiking trail and is it a loop trail? The Panther Den hiking trail is about 3 miles in length with an addition 2 miles to and back from the start of the loop making the hike about 5-6 miles in total length.
    3. How do I not get lost on the Panther Den hiking trail? Take the trail at the official signed trailhead on Panther Den Lane (at the very end of the narrow gravel road). Continue until you reach a creek with various trails and blazes to your right. Cross the creek and stay on the trail that puts the creek to your left. Continue until you reach the start of the loop which will be a fork, go left (look for the "Rock Formation" signs on the tree) and follow the trail. I suggest you download Avenza for your smartphone and then install the R2R Trail bundle (all free) to keep you on the trail even with no cell phone data or use a paper map and compass.
    4. When should I hike the Panther Den hiking trail? You may hike this trail anytime you wish, all year long. However, in the late spring, summer and early fall - it is very overgrown and difficult to hike. Every time I visit in the summer, I pull ticks off me. Late fall and winter is honestly the best time to hike this area.
    5. Any additional suggestions for Panther Den hiking trail? Tell someone where you are going BEFORE you go and always put safety first. Pack enough food and water to last a few days and bring an emergency shelter (like a poncho), lighter/fire source and a flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries. Be prepared for the unexpected when hiking in any wilderness environment. You're better off to visit this area with someone else tagging along with you.

I agree with you, it's a pretty area and it reminds me of a few spots out where I'm located in Southwestern Virginia.

While traveling on Rocky Comfort Road, turn onto Panther Den Road and go a few miles, then turn onto Panther Den Lane (narrow and gravel). Go all the way to the end to reach the parking lot / trailhead. :)

Keep in mind, panther den lane is VERY narrow, if you meet another car, someone will be backing up to the nearest wide spot.. so take a mental note each time you pass a wide spot on that road to judge if you or the other car needs to back up

Found it last week with your directions . I really liked the area . Will be coming back when the creek is full for more pics . The back part of the loop trail is really grown up . Thanks again !
