This has happened to me . I had just recently won the trophy while playing for my university. I used to be good defender but once my friend challenged me and made me emotionally weak and brought his own team whose 3-4 players were already playing at national level, then I was too nervous and got humiliated . After that I became villian and they blamed me for everything until this year tournament which really made me weak for 2 years. Then I changed my position to goalie and yes it worked out . With that friend in my team we won the cup again by me saving 3 penalties in a row. And the interesting thing it was the same team that humiliated us 2 years ago. So stay strong guys.
The death threats from Liverpool 'fans' was absolutely disgusting. Some of the worst fans in football who's motto "you'll never walk alone" is a huge crock. It's a game of football, I don't care how emotional you get, no one deserves to have their self and family threatened. I remember seeing them at the time and they brought nothing but shame on themselves. Much love to Karius. Hope he overcomes his mental demons and returns to his best. Great to hear he's motivated to earn another chance. Hopefully he gets it and can rebuild himself
@@RaymarFootball for sure but a club that proudly proclaims to look out for each other (and is supposedly famous for it), this was one of the biggest stains on their reputation IMO. Football is an emotional game but to make death threats over it is disgusting especially in an age where mental health is such a growing social issue. Granted it's not the first and sadly won't be the last time someone receives death threats in football (I recall LFC's crosstown rivals did the same to Rafa Benitez and his family last season). Needs to be stamped out. Most of these cowards do so from behind a keyboard or phone screen.
@@RajMGandhi it's a few years removed now but at the time, I recall VERY FEW LFC supporters defending him. Most were obviously disappointed and vented their frustration as a subsequent result. Obviously the worst of the lot were those who made death threats but if you were on social media at the time, there was a very small number who sympathised and defended Karius. Was shameful to see a fanbase let one of their players be hung out to dry, especially a famous one that supposedly claims to be a club of the people and who look out for each other.
Adrian San Miguel made more mistakes than Karius and got hated just as much, but he bounced back and even made some quality saves in Community Shield. The difference between hard player and soft player. Years of playing for mid table and bottom table clubs make Adrian a humble player with solid personality. I am confident if LFC had Adrian instead of Mignolet in UEL 2016 then LFC would've won against Sevilla.
Why didn't you mention Ramos elbowing Karius off the ball prior to the Bale goal in the Champions League final? Seems like an odd thing to omit given there was claimed concussion after the game.

ramos was also the villain in the 2022 champions league final by causing Salah to talk so much crap before the game due to the concussion he gave him in 2018
I used to be pretty good at goal keeping throughout middle and high school, towards mid year 12 I got anxiety unrelated still have it 4 years later but that anxiety destroyed me at goal keeping. I would sometime save some really good shot but at the same time make so many mistakes and with every passing mistake it would only get worse so much so that I haven’t played football since I graduated high school and even today if someone suggests playing it I make up an excuse. Can’t believe what he must’ve gone through knowing everybody saw everything especially while also having a concussion at the time making it all a blurr with anxiety destroying him every game he played afterwards.
Being a Goalkeeper is one the scariest position to play. I remember the time I got humiliated in my years in high school. Until this day it's still haunts me. 😔
The concussion while goalkeeping is really serious because it happened to me. I was keeping and being a sweeper keeper I ran out to collect the ball from an opposing player who then accidentally kicked me on the head. The concussion fucked up my catching the whole entire match, everything was dizzy and I had a painful constant headache. The opposing team ended up scoring on me because I failed control the ball when my teammate slowly passed the ball back to me. I was so unaware of what was going on and my surroundings.
I'm glad someone else understands the nature of concussions. Many sports have a culture to suck things up and not worry about bumps and bruises but even minor concussions, if taken trauma to certain areas, can do a lot of damage. There's no doubt in my mind that Karius' downfall was a result of that.
@@jonathan99097 Yeha & was that accidental or purposely hitted by real madrid player? it seems off for me because that player literally come near Karius & bump his arm into Karius's head
He was so obviously concussed, it was horrific to watch. it was reckless and irresponsible of Liverpool to keep him playing. FIFA guidelines are if concussion suspected that's your game over and no return to play for several days. This is why we need independent head injury assessors at games, not just the clubs making decisions.
As a Madrid fan. I hope Karius can heal. Everyone that threaten him should apologize and understand the man. It’s a game and mistakes are made and sometimes you have a great game.
8:25 yeah, ramos being ramos. A trick remains hidden as long as during the game the referee doesn't notice. Whether it's intentional or unintentional, that act cost someone else's career and potentially life
Goalkeeping is sometimes tragic. Beşiktaş (the team Karius later moved) once had a goalkeeper in 2000. When fighting for league title, they were facing against Galatasaray (who would win UEFA Cup later that season) inside and heading 1-0 while the goalkeeper was making clean sheets. Then, he conceaded a goal when the defender just passed him and he missed it under his feet. The field was rocky so the pass wasn't direct, but nevertheless it happened and the match ended with 1-1, advantage for Galata. He cried, so was his wife back then in the audience. It was so traumatic for him that when he did a mistake again later, he purposely hit his head to bars. People only remember his mistake for that match, but sadly forget how he was and would be a good goalkeeper.
That's a heartbreaking situation dealing with concussion issues by their self add being on a big stage and there's nothing you can do but suffer through it not knowing what's going on
9:46 There is also Roberto Baggio that isolated a penalty on the 1994 WC Final and thus making Italy lose the game to Brazil. He never really recovered from that, in an interview he said he still cant sleep well because everytime he closes his eyes he sees the penalty. Some fans call him "The Man who died on foot".
after the 2012 final schweinsteiger took only one more penalty in his career. at the euro's 2016 and he missed that one as well. before the final, he was an great penalty taker.

Well, on the face of it, he really sucked that day. However, the mistakes he made can happen to literally anyone at any time. He was neither the first guy in such a situation, nor will he be the last. He did not deserve to be ridiculed like he was from some sides.
There were still some howlers outside of the UCL in fairness. Frankly, his Liverpool career was not just one bad game, he single handedly threw away games against the likes of Bournemouth. Even so, I hope he can find his confidence again because he did have moments of promise
A lot of people forget how bad Karius really was during that season. Before the final, Liverpool fans made him appear like a god because they had a good defensive spree. Based on "stats" chosen accordingly to hide their biggest weakness. Which made the result of the final break them. The "Concussion", a decent excuse from Klopp to find a way to save Karius' reputation. Karius was highly praised at a young age but unfortunately he didn't grow as expected.
I remember the first season he signed he was absolutely poor. Then the next season mignolet was at his worst (and I still think Karius was the better keeper) so Klopp started Karius again and he went on a purple patch. Let’s not talk about what happened next
@@WERTYUIO821 Its really pissing me off seeing all these comments saying about he was exiled for having one bad game and others didnt have that treatment, despite him literally being dropped midway through his first season for mignolet because he was so bad. He made a great reflex save every now and then, but in the run to the final, every commentator knew he was a liability and which is why when he made that first mistake, every just thought, I knew he was unreliable. No one ever remembers that bournemouth game
That happened to me in high school. I’d have a great game, followed by a terrible game. My confidence as a keeper went through the floor, and I quit playing soccer after tenth grade because it wasn’t fun anymore (I got picked on a lot too, which didn’t help either). Many years later I was diagnosed with ADD, and I think that had a lot to do with it. Mental health is not to be taken lightly. It breaks my heart that he went through that, and I hope he can make a comeback.
Fuck betterhelp, it's the commodification of therapy. Mental health is incredibly important and everyone can benefit from seeking out the right kind of therapist for them, but betterhelp ain't it.
It is quite sad. Most times after such trauma, if given a second chance, a player can become formidable. Football can be unforgiving. I remember when Cameroon lost to Egypt in 2006 an failed to qualify for the world cup. Everyone blamed Pierre Wome for missing a penalty. He was never called up to the squad again. Everyone forgot that he was the best left back Cameroon had.
Even I quit cricket this year, we lost a semifinal match because of my bad bowling! I was rated as the top 3 bowlers in the tournament! I am so broken that any game I played after that I never recovered and i have finally stopped playing cricket now in dec 2022😔 I have been playing cricket since 2002 there was never a dull moment in Cricket for me!!
I was a goal keeper in school and this one time i got hit on the face point blank on the face by the football and my vision went black for a bit, and i saw the ball go for a corner, the entire game i barely made simple saves and conceded 3 goals, the most I had ever conceded in one game that year. Yeah it sucks and after COVID my keeping is so much worse now :(
I hope Karius comes back and is in the best form of his life. People can be so cruel and unreasonably critical of others mistakes, when they should be encouraging and supportive. I hope he comes back and proves it to himself that he can still be an amazing goalkeeper!
im once a goalie. the depression is a true story - worst you cannot move on in personal life. you could only experienced this if you have been a goalkeeper of any sports and play in high ranking games. defender could make silly mistake and go to the pub happily the next day. whilst a goalie might be traumatized for the rest of his/her life. I could not imagine Karius depression as being a goalkeeper is his only life career, not something you could switch position freely.
I remember this final but didn't know the sad story behind this man. This video made me kinda angry actually because what were Liverpool doing NOT assigning a psychologist to help him deal with this?! "You'll never walk alone" my ass!
That season was the first CL final we are in for a long time and Karius never play on such a huge stage. Am I disappointed about Karius? Yes Did he deserve all of these? not even a little It hurts more to see a man who did so well for us in a season to fade away because of one night

Oliver Kahn's German as well, geniuses. :D It's also not Manual Neuer. He's not a gearstick. Man-well. Same as in Spanish. Informative video though. Glad to have him at Newcastle.
actually karius was awful from the moment he joined Liverpool. he joined to be liverpools no.1 but was constantly being displaced by mignolet due to poor performances. Liverpool was too big of a club for him and he couldn't handle the pressure. The ucl final was the icing on the cake because and if he couldn't handle pressure playing in the Premier league, then he was always gonna get bent over in a ucl final. with or without that 'concussion', Liverpool needed to get rid of him. That ucl final performance made the goalkeeper matter more urgent and led to Liverpool making arguably greatest signing in their clubs history. Even as a chelsea fan myself I envy seeing allison in goal for them and they have karius' disasterclass to thank for it. But yeah get your facts right next time although I don't really expect much from an American's football knowledge.
Funny how 'you'll never walk alone' is Liverpools anthem, but they left Karius high and dry and very much alone on that night. Maybe they should amend the song!!!!
I was elated when I saw his performance with newcastle. People only start paying attention to you do good. Once you make 1 mistake, they leave you and blame you. Now that he performed good, people started supporting him. This is the world we live in

I used to be a goalkeeper too in fact in a match i accidentally removed one of my gloves a shot came so fast i tried to save it i managed but i broke 4 of my fingers and after that i screamed so loud but i still needed to play even tho i told manager to sub me there was a pen given to opponent team i managed to save it with the hand that wasn’t broken when match ended we headed straight to hospital after 4 months my hand was good but through all the stress i went through next season i struggled to save shots any powerful shot coming i got scared remembering how my fingers broke and the pain i felt in that moment my teammates were calling me different names cuz i struggled a lot i was dropped of starting team and i fell in depression and i just quit i was 10 when i broke my fingers and quit at 11 and even to this day when i play randomly with friends and play as a gk i still can’t save power shots its like some sort of trauma
One of the things he has in his favour is goalkeepers can usually have a bit of a longer career in the professional game because goalkeeping is mostly positioning, confidence and reading the game
Confidence is really everything man I remember I used to be a decent keeper in school P.E but one night I didn't have great sleep and I let in a lot of easy shots the bully on my team started saying all kinds of horrible things to me.While everyone else just looked a bit disappointed this guy was full on abusing me even my teammates told him to calm down. And this was in a P.E lesson I feel so bad for karius lord knows what kind of dark placeshe must've been.
This breaks my heart man. People can be so toxic. Everyone messes up, but people just didn’t relent on him.
Well spoken towards the end of the vid about pushing forward and not giving up. Peace be upon you brother
Hopefully he gets it and can rebuild himself
tbf there are toxic fans in every club (some more than others) who would have done the same under similar circumstances imo
Because it was every single fan, right?
Not just a bunch of them (less than a percent).
Every club has toxic fans...
Both Real Madrid vs Liverpool CL finals will be remembered as a tale of two keepers.
Why didn't you mention Ramos elbowing Karius off the ball prior to the Bale goal in the Champions League final? Seems like an odd thing to omit given there was claimed concussion after the game.
He let the heat into his head, that's why I love Harry Maguire. He makes me feel like we the average pleb can play in epl
If karius gives stunning comeback by his next level goalkeeping skills, this would motivate the people who made silly mistakes in their life and can come over from it.i wish he will comeback stronger than ever bcoz the pain they endure makes them stronger than anything that no one can break him even more.
Raymar is improving his content skill video after video blending football with life lessons and motivation.i wish u get more subscribers for ur content.
Kudos!!
I hope that can happen man!
@@RaymarFootball yea bro
Sergio Ramos is always the villian in many of the terrible situations. Be it with Salah aur this one.
For real
That's why he is loved in the football world
ramos was also the villain in the 2022 champions league final by causing Salah to talk so much crap before the game due to the concussion he gave him in 2018
Ramos doing Ramos things
thats why most non real/spain fans hate him
amazing video, very emotional
His story is a very sad one. I wish him the very best in his recovery
Holy shit thats brutal. I remember the match vaguely and me and my dad laughing our asses off. I'll probably think twice when I do that...
Make a video on Eduardo Da Silva aka Dudu
He was on his way to beacome best Croatian playeri and top scorer before his horror injury
I never knew that was his nickname
Honestly Karius never wasn’t great
But mental health really got to him which is sad, I hope he’s doing well now.
yup I agree my man
as a keeper myself, i feel for him!
Watching this before the NUFC MU cup final. Eeeeek
Being a Goalkeeper is one the scariest position to play. I remember the time I got humiliated in my years in high school. Until this day it's still haunts me. 😔
Now imagine what karius felt when the whole world was laughing at him
@@m4sterrr553 Yeah It must not feel so great.
When I was in like U14 soccer I slammed into the post trying to save a corner that curled towards the goal probably happened to me too lmao
@@mjudec one more reason to hate liverpool
As a Madrid fan. I hope Karius can heal. Everyone that threaten him should apologize and understand the man. It’s a game and mistakes are made and sometimes you have a great game.
We're waiting for your return, Karius.
🙏🙏
8:25 yeah, ramos being ramos. A trick remains hidden as long as during the game the referee doesn't notice. Whether it's intentional or unintentional, that act cost someone else's career and potentially life
Typical Ramos. Will injure players that are better than him
Goalkeeping is sometimes tragic.
That's a heartbreaking situation dealing with concussion issues by their self add being on a big stage and there's nothing you can do but suffer through it not knowing what's going on
I remember crying during that game, now I support Leeds and I've upgraded from crying a game to crying an entire season 😁😁
Swapping teams?..
@@danielruud224 I'd say I swapped for the worst
at least you have lost less champions league finals than liverpool
@@scegex6500 at least you know how to win games 🤣🤣🥲
He reminds me Bojan Krkic, guy who have everything to be atleast a great player but didnt have that mental strengh to face the elite football.
So much for "you'll never walk alone"
“It’s okay to feel sad or depressed but that doesn’t mean you have to stay that way”
after the 2012 final schweinsteiger took only one more penalty in his career. at the euro's 2016 and he missed that one as well.
before the final, he was an great penalty taker.
Was he schweinsteiger
Given that the Thumbnail says "The Fall of Karius" and Karius being an anagram for Ikarus, the story gets 10x more exciting to watch
ramos singel handedly won that final for madrid
first salah then karius😐🙌🌟💫
true dark art master
wouldve wanted to see a fair match even tho I was going for RM back then!
@@RaymarFootball its never fair until city and psg use the oil money
but'if u remember madrid was not right in that match every thing was good for liverpool and they dominated until ramos take matter into his hands and knock out salah
Liverpool 3 finals
2 of them lost to real i bet they going to remember these finals for a long time😂😂😂
I hope he overcomes this phase 💪
This is like the only football match I've watched fully. It was so sad to watch those mistakes
"mistakes"... or matchfixing
Karius should never ever have been allowed to continue the game after Ramos' elbow
The perfect sponsor for the video 🤣😂🤣
Epic!
When I first saw the champions league final I didn't even knew the opponent gk name but I felt bad for him
That happened to me in high school.
All these mental diagnosis are fake
Fuck betterhelp, it's the commodification of therapy. Mental health is incredibly important and everyone can benefit from seeking out the right kind of therapist for them, but betterhelp ain't it.
It is quite sad. Most times after such trauma, if given a second chance, a player can become formidable.
Football can be unforgiving.
I remember when Cameroon lost to Egypt in 2006 an failed to qualify for the world cup. Everyone blamed Pierre Wome for missing a penalty. He was never called up to the squad again. Everyone forgot that he was the best left back Cameroon had.
Finally a video about Karius.
Even I quit cricket this year, we lost a semifinal match because of my bad bowling!
I was rated as the top 3 bowlers in the tournament!
I am so broken that any game I played after that I never recovered and i have finally stopped playing cricket now in dec 2022😔
I have been playing cricket since 2002 there was never a dull moment in Cricket for me!!
So keep it going. Dont let some bad experiences get you down
I was a goal keeper in school and this one time i got hit on the face point blank on the face by the football and my vision went black for a bit, and i saw the ball go for a corner, the entire game i barely made simple saves and conceded 3 goals, the most I had ever conceded in one game that year. Yeah it sucks and after COVID my keeping is so much worse now :(
Just signed with Newcastle🙏🏼
I hope Karius comes back and is in the best form of his life. People can be so cruel and unreasonably critical of others mistakes, when they should be encouraging and supportive. I hope he comes back and proves it to himself that he can still be an amazing goalkeeper!
What a wonderful video. You earned a subscriber. Keep it up 👍🏻
im once a goalie. the depression is a true story - worst you cannot move on in personal life. you could only experienced this if you have been a goalkeeper of any sports and play in high ranking games. defender could make silly mistake and go to the pub happily the next day. whilst a goalie might be traumatized for the rest of his/her life. I could not imagine Karius depression as being a goalkeeper is his only life career, not something you could switch position freely.
GK is undoubtedly the toughest part on the pitch. Physical strength is one thing but mental fortitude is another.
I was a goalkeeper myself, and i know how hard is to be a goalkeeper and make just one mistake its just to bad even in training
Welcome to Newcastle United, King Karius 🙏
Now he is doing the comeback
I remember this final but didn't know the sad story behind this man. This video made me kinda angry actually because what were Liverpool doing NOT assigning a psychologist to help him deal with this?! "You'll never walk alone" my ass!
That season was the first CL final we are in for a long time and Karius never play on such a huge stage.
Am I disappointed about Karius? Yes
Did he deserve all of these? not even a little
It hurts more to see a man who did so well for us in a season to fade away because of one night
disappointed in Karius for getting and elbow to the side of the head (a critical spot)? you are definitely not a Liverpool fan
It's just a game. No need to hate players or teams, just enjoy the fun and the games, and be friendly with each other, everybody, PERIOD.
Karius did request a substitution because he had a concussion but Klopp said no.
That's insane..
He has Joined Newcastle United and i wish him best of luck for his future💗
This is why ramos is the greatest defender of all time. He is the only player who knows how to play dirty and get away with it consistently
That is not a sign of greatness lol, Maldini and Beckenbaur are personally for me the greatest defenders of all time they didn't live on red cards
bahaha interesting statement, Ramos is an all time great defender but isn’t the cleanest
The Fans destroyed him. Than I realized, he is in now the club I support and this club has the best fan support of any other club in the PL and is known for it. I think he needs it.
no way bro snuck an ad in like that lmao
I’m waiting for the day Karius gets the redemption he deserves
I remember before that game against real madrid he was really performing insanely good for liverpool
HOW THE HELL does he call Besiktas BESKITOS? as someone who knows football you are supposed to know the big 3 in Istanbul
Oliver Kahn's German as well, geniuses. :D
It's also not Manual Neuer. He's not a gearstick. Man-well. Same as in Spanish.
Informative video though. Glad to have him at Newcastle.
Now he is back and about to sign for Newcastle
actually karius was awful from the moment he joined Liverpool. he joined to be liverpools no.1 but was constantly being displaced by mignolet due to poor performances.
He was brought in because mignolet was shit, but then it turned he wasn't any better, so they just traded gloves everytime one of them made an error.
Funny how 'you'll never walk alone' is Liverpools anthem, but they left Karius high and dry and very much alone on that night. Maybe they should amend the song!!!!
Best of luck to him hope he can make it back
I was elated when I saw his performance with newcastle. People only start paying attention to you do good. Once you make 1 mistake, they leave you and blame you. Now that he performed good, people started supporting him. This is the world we live in
Even though I'm a Real Madrid fan I couldn't help but feel bad for the guy.
never understood why Real Madrid Defenders got away with mma their entire career .
Pepe and Ramos should of been permanently banned more than 3x their carreer but instead they keep getting green light to mma vs no mma expecting actual football players.
its the biggest Mistery in football for me.
they did far far worse things than even Suarez but no long bans.
"karius was the second best goalie in Germany"
Ter stegen: why are we still here, just to suffer
I wish him all the best and come back more strongly and achieve what he deserves.
Here after he signed for Newcastle
