I really like it when you make videos of cars cheaper and simpler (Focus, Escort ...), instead of super sports like Lamborghinis. Keep it up, Kyle. Greetings from Brazil.
I've owned a lot of vehicles in my day, but my 2001 Focus Sedan is the best car I've ever had. Some may say I've led a sheltered life, but I love my Focus. It drives and feels like something costing a lot more.
I had a 94 Plymouth Voyager as my first car, but it broke like two months after I started driving, so I'm picking up a Focus this week, I think it'll be a pretty great technically first car :D
MLGBongHits I'm enjoying mine so far! Drives good, has some pep, and is good on gas! Probably one of the best first cars I could get right now without breaking the bank.
Thank you so much for this review! I just bought a 2003 Focus this week and it drives great! I was concerned with how loud it performs however with this review I understand that 4cl engine has a lot of work to do! :) Thank you for this review :)
Noah Jones If you can find one of this generation that’s in mint or near mint condition, then have at it. I personally love Ford’s too. (Old and new) I drive a 2016 Ford Escape and my Mom drives a 2013 Lincoln MKT, both in which are good cars. My neighbor’s son helped me practice driving in his 2001 Ford F-150 when I was practicing to get my license.
@@westmane5293 yep mine is a 2003 ZX3 with the Zetec 2.0L. It was an old ladies car, only has 105k miles on it but runs as good as new. I've been very happy with my Focus.
My neighbor has this car. It has a little bit of rust under the driver side door. I think it is a 2001. I’m not sure on the age of the car. I was thinking of a 2004 one in 2005. I ended up with a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 in a higher trim level. I had that car almost 7 years. I was in an accident in early March 2012 in that Focus. I gotten a broken left ankle and about 3 or 4 bruises. That little car was fun to drive. Now I drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. I just heard you said Escort. It is a Ford Focus!!!! My sister used to drive a 1997 Ford Escort ZX2 in black. Now she drives a 2013 Ford Edge that was my mother’s vehicle. She inherited it.
Ive got a 2000 ford focus zts 4 door. its an awesome car with 73,000 miles, not rust, no interior problems or stains. its got all power mirros windows locks, remote start, i woulnt trade it for anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just an 02 focus lx last month the car runs great the engin is quiet nice pick and its so good on gas. Got a spare key with programming for only 60 buck can't beat that.
It's really not supposed to sound like this. Mine has 170k miles (converted, 260k kilometers), it's a manual and it idles a lot lower and it's generally quieter.
I actually drove the hatchback version of this for my Drivers ED car and it was a 2002. Well, I drove that and a Hyundai Accent from 2006. I remember the brakes squealed. The steering also felt heavier. It had 201,000 plus miles on it. They called it the Ford That Never Dies. Other than those 2 problems I liked driving it. However I'm just not much of a Ford guy. I prefer Hyundai's, Honda's, or Toyota's.
my aunt has a blue '06 Focus SE sedan automatic and she loves it. it's got 36000 Km and it still looks like brand new. plus she only got it for $9500 (Canadian dollars). I've been in it and it rides really nicely. plus it has decent cargo room for a car that size.
I got a 02 ford focus 4 door red, 5 speed 85,xxx original miles I put about over 3,000 miles on it just done an oil change on it car does really good, love everything about it plenty of room, good gas mileage (average about 350-400 miles to the tank) took it to georgia and back and did great, just did an oil change on it and its pretty fast too top speed is about 105-110 mph no mods, I beat a v6 magnum charger or challenger in it its got about 130 horsepower.
Leyva_13 these cars were pretty troublesome in terms of reliability. The intake valve seat was notorious for failing which caused the valve to fall into one of the cylinders, destroying the engine in the process
@giannial1985 You are partially correct. The SPI engine that was standard in Escorts was also standard in the 00-04 Focus. The SPI Focus uses the Ford F-4EAT auto trans (which is made by Mazda) just as the Escort did. The Focus with the Zetec engine is a completely diff engine from the Zetec in the Escort ZX2, Contour/Mystique, besides the block, and uses a Ford auto trans.
Nice. My brother is a big PT fan, and he wanted a pt cruser end edition for his 1st car. He bought an elantra though a 2006 with only 35,000 on it! and best thing is the only owner of the car was a mechanicat the dealership my brother bought it at!

I knew a guy (my old neighbor) that had an 04' Focus but the hatchback. It's blue and really nice. I think he traded it in for a Caddy of some sort but it was still a decent car.
Ive just got a focus i find once im driving it its great, comfortable, reliable, economical and great handling the only thing i dont like is its just too small but ill keep it for now
I need to ask you one question, I just bought a 2000 ford focus, but it has some vibration to it, and motor mounts on top are good, and carmart had the shop put new transmission mounts on it. Does the ford focus your driving here does it have any vibration to it. They tried to tell me that these cars do have vibration. Is this true. It does it more when its in drive or reverse, and when the air is on. Please I hope you can let me know. Thank you.
This is perfectly normal Paul. A 4 cylinder engine is not as well balanced as a 6 or 8 cylinder. When you put the car in reverse or drive it puts strain on the engine and reduces the engine rpm which would cause the car to vibrate more. (That also applies to the A/C).
Ericthemachineman I don't understand, how is that normal, is this just on a ford focus, because I have had many cars with 4 cylinder's, and never had this problem with them vibrating. I have had a 1999 ford escort and other 4 cylinder cars, but never had this before until I gotten this 2000 ford focus. I never had one of these cars, and its going to be the last. I like to ask you the 2002 ford focus you was driving, did it have any vibration. Anyway thank you for letting me know this. Unless this is just normal for a ford focus.
Well first I am not him. I never have driven a ford focus. But to clear things up how bad is the vibration? Does it cause panels in the car to make noise? Does it numb your hands when driving? If it doesn't do any of this I would say the car is fine, if it does my answer would be to give the engine a tune up and pray that fixes it.
I'd say it is fairly common overall. On Focus Fanatics (Focus forum) a lot of vibration threads do pop up. I have a 2004 ZX5 and my wife has a 2003 ZX3. Her's vibrates like crazy and mine almost not at all.

That should be the opposite... The SPI's only issue is people ignoring the timing belt. Its a rough engine though and many people can't stand it. But its really reliable. The ZETEC is the one I'd be worried about in regards to valve seals dropping and other engine design flaws they had.
I was just watching your video again of you driving this car, and to me it does not look like it is vibrating like mine does. Looks like your drives really smooth. Is there anything that you can think of that will be making mine vibrate. And also I want to ask you this, I drove it this morning, and I got on it little harder than before, and when I did the engine light started to flash for a few minutes, but then finally went off. Also when I cranked it up last couple of weeks ago, it was tapping in the engine, for a few seconds, then it stopped, it then did the same thing a few days later, then one more time a couple days later, but has not done that anymore, yet anyway. What do you think that could be. And the last two times the car was warmed up as I just gotten back into town, parked it and went inside the store, came back out, and when I cranked it, it was tapping for a few seconds, then it stopped, that was a couple weeks ago, but has not done it since then. Anyway hope you can maybe answer those two main question's about the engine light, and the tapping. Also I already put new plugs, and plug wires in the car. But no change. Thank you.

I just bought a 2002 today, electric everything with the Zetec engine. I think it handles great and the car picks up rather nice, while keeping steady at high Mph, No jerking or hiccups when down shifting at high speeds, transmission is smooth. I think the engine mounts are loose though, its got a high Idle while parked with the car running. It only kick in after the car is in park for around 20 sec... Query how would i go about getting another FOB key, do I have to call ford directly?

I want to get a car like this one but I dont know what should I look at while test driving it. im driving an 02 grand am and i know that this focus can be way better than my car. any comment please?
@NEONGREENISDAFAV I absolutely would. I have an 03 (my first car as well) and it's been fantastic! I've had it for about three years, it has about 75k on it and it has NEVER had a problem. Not even a battery problem. The only time it's been in the shop has been because some jerk hit me in the parking lot and it needed body work. Anyway, very reliable, great on gas, comfortable and fun to drive. I say go for it.
@JohnQuincyAdams1 not everyone lives in a city and automatic gearbox is heavier than a manual and it gets worse fuel consumption. nobody complains about shifting gears with a manual.
why is it that i have an 07 focus but this is an 02 and the interior is the same as mine, only difference is the way the dash is styled, i got the same gauges, center console, door panels except i have power windows and door locks, but everything is the same as my car but the dash and the way it looks on the outside obviously,
Just a heads up: I think the SPI engine is the one which has the major problem with the cylinder exploding; literally. I've heard better stories of the Zetec engine. My Ford Focus SE recently had that problem. Started it up; worked fine. Stopped and parked. Went to start it again and then hell hit it. Owner of a VW Passat now. It's a nasty experience when it happens that is all I can say.
I will agree with that, but not only are the small cars cheaper in the first place, but they are much better on gas. And unless you're over 5'8, the small cars are fine. I'm 5'2 and can comfortably drive my moms corolla.
One bad thing I noticed about this car which this video pretty much confirms, is the bad engine noise. My dad has a focus and it sounds like a race car inside. Especially since its manual. It's possible that I'll be purchasing this car used with really low miles so I really wouldn't mind it at this point. :)
i have a 1999 focus 1.4 petrol. it has 325.000 km and it is still great.never failed.
l have a 2002 focus 1.6 saloon never let me down
what do you think about this car, is this small car or medium car ?

Keep it up, Kyle.

Excellent engines. The transaxle is great too!!

I wanna buy one, 01-03 is that a good model for a ford focus?, i want the SE model.. which do you prefer the hatchback Zx3 or the sedan?
How comfortable is the hatch for a 6'3" person? I'm planning on getting one soon and i'm not sure how comfortable it will be.
How did it go lmao
I'm buying a 03 Ford Focus 4 door, the Ghia model you know..top of the line..power windows, power locks, Automatic..she's gotta a gasoline 2.0 L under the bonnet..it's pretty neat car! Do you think I'm gonna enjoy it? My current car is 05 Renault Scenic 1.6 L.
@LPWWE06 That could be it because the ford power steering is normally a very smooth thing.
@B789c "1" keeps the transmission in 1st gear. "2" limits the transmission to the first 2 gears only.
i was checking out a focus the other day and i was surprised to see that the focus has a huge trunk then the Aveo or Yaris

I'm watching a video of an identical Focus to mine being driven. I'm bored.
Do you want to sell it?
Still running?
I want to get a car like this one but I dont know what should I look at while test driving it. im driving an 02 grand am and i know that this focus can be way better than my car. any comment please?
My mom has this very same vehicle same noise same year and everything. She named it Tracy
diesel ?
if you have time could you make a video of a scion xd i really like those cars and you make great videos
the transmission of the 1998-2004 (Europe) 1999-2007 (North America) Ford Focus
Transmission
4-speed automatic
5-speed manual
6-speed manual (SVT)
Can u come up with a "test drive" series of videos?
@NEONGREENISDAFAV
I absolutely would.
@JohnQuincyAdams1 not everyone lives in a city and automatic gearbox is heavier than a manual and it gets worse fuel consumption. nobody complains about shifting gears with a manual.
why is it that i have an 07 focus but this is an 02 and the interior is the same as mine, only difference is the way the dash is styled, i got the same gauges, center console, door panels except i have power windows and door locks, but everything is the same as my car but the dash and the way it looks on the outside obviously,
kiero saber como puedo ver cuando gasolina me.keda y cuantoa kilometros. puedo circular
@hercegovac00 no its the saloon version. The focus was available in 3, 4 and 5 door and estate version and the hatch looks like crap except the 3dr
Not too bad and not too good. It depends from previous owner.
does it have anti lock brakes
HEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! theres a way to take the noise out? i hate it, but the noise of mine is worse!! THANKS
Red hot Chili Peppers is perfect driving music, what are you doing man?? u_u
cool :) since you have had it for 5 months is it good mate?
Dude is it a Focus or Escort(5:15)? You should know what your selling!
One bad thing I noticed about this car which this video pretty much confirms, is the bad engine noise. My dad has a focus and it sounds like a race car inside. Especially since its manual.
It's possible that I'll be purchasing this car used with really low miles so I really wouldn't mind it at this point.
:)
