    Nice video and very informative! Defiantly learned a lot about tow mode and how to properly setup a trailer on the model Y! I wanted to know how much range you guys lost while driving the trailer and under load. Thank you!

      So glad you enjoyed the video. We didn't end up traveling very far to help a friend move some furniture (just across town). It definitely used more energy than normal, but had plenty of range because we were no where near the 3,500 lb limit. Others have said they've experienced 50% decrease in range but if we had to guess it was probably about 25-30% for us in relatively warm (71 degree) fall day. If it was colder and if we were towing a larger trailer (with a boat or heavy equipment) the 50% estimate seems about right. We will have to do more videos in the future as are looking to add the tow package to our car soon. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    I have a MY on order... be here in February. Planning on towing now and then, maybe a small camper eventually. I didn't realize how far the hitch is into the bumper, and it looks like the chains will scratch up the bottom of the bumper as you go down the road. Thank you for the info.

    • @JQLouise
      @JQLouise 2 года назад +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, we noticed the chain issue too. If we purchase the tow package for our Model Y, we will probably wrap/zip tie some microfiber towels to the ends of the trailer chains in that particular area to prevent too much scaping of the plastic. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    I had it installed at time of ordering. So I didn’t have to order it separately. While I haven’t used it yet. I do need lan to use it next few months while I get supplies for few yard projects coming up.

      We really wanted to order it at delivery, but it would've pushed our MSRP over the limit to receive an EV rebate. After trying out our family member's Model Y we are seriously considering adding the package this winter. The car pulled the trailer no problem and the whole setup is extremely sturdy. What is the brand of the 7 pin adapter? I have one and it doesn't fit in the Tesla Model Y hole.

    Good video guys. I sure hope that hitch works with my 1up USA bike rack. It appears to be recessed pretty far into the bumper. I also wish that removing the cover wasn't necessary.

      So glad you enjoyed it! Do you know if the bike rack's hitch adapter is 1-1/4" or 2" and how long? We agree on the cover too. Would be awesome if someone made a magnetic cover or an easier way to do it without scratching the back plastic. Thanks so much for watching and commenting

    hi, thanks for the in-depth video for the trailer, I have a question about the adaptor, i bought an adaptor from Amazon as well, does your adaptor version to code to Tesla? when I plug- in my lights, only one side (right side) works properly, and the left side blinks fast and the trailer light didn't light up (just to be sure the trailer light works properly, I have attached it to another car with trailer accessory, and works perfectly). if you can offer any suggestions and thoughts is greatly appreciated!

    • @JQLouise
      @JQLouise Год назад +1

      Hi! There shouldn't be any coding. That being said, the adapter needs to be pushed in pretty far to have a good connection. Once it's plugged in the car recognizes there is an accessory attached. If the adapter is working on another vehicle it may be a bad connection or not fully pushed into the Tesla. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

      @@JQLouise Quick update: SC detected one of the harness was soft set, they had to take off the bumper to realized the loosely fitted , I may believed when they said one point in time , our cars were built in the parking lot. Good thing is, everything works now.

    I notice there is limited space in the tow hitch compartment. Is there enough room to install and properly operate a tow pin lock.
    The reason I ask is that if I get a Tesla Model Y I will be towing a nice aluminum boat trailer and don't want it to get stolen buy someone removing a clevis pin and pulling out the tow hitch.
    Thanks in advance for any additional information you can supply.

      Great question! From what is on the Tesla Motor Club forums, it seems that a 5/8" trailer lock like this Master Lock should work - amzn.to/3osa3iA - We will have to confirm with our family member who has the car, but there should be a couple inches of space on the left in between the wiring harness and the pin. Can you do FSD in trailer mode?

    • @JQLouise
      @JQLouise 2 года назад +1

      We don't have FSD, but even autopilot was disabled when in trailer mode. It makes sense because the car doesn't know exactly what it's towing, so it disables the feature. Trying to override or workaround isn't recommended. The exception to this would be a bike rack, or something that doesn't change the dynamics of the car too much which is why Tesla added the option to disable trailer mode even if something is connected as a bike rack shouldn't interfere the same way as a large 3,500 lb trailer. I don’t mean to be rude but you guys seem like the kind of people that make your entire identity revolve around the car you drive. Also, I was hoping this would be an actual towing test and not just a long drawn explanation of what most people already know. You guys explained how to set up a trailer hitch which is great and I’m sure it was useful information to the people who have never driven a truck or towed anything before but to most people that have, I think you should focused more on things like range impact due to pulling a trailer, charging with a trailer, things like along those lines that most people wouldn’t know unless they owned one. This seems like a video you made just for the sake of making a video, and we’re all excited for you to have a Tesla but it’s not a badge of honor or anything, it’s just a car.
