    Fantastic choice Catherine! I have great admiration for Natalie and the Chicks. We should all speak out against the powerful people who want to curtail our rights. The country music community treated these women so poorly and I’m so glad they didn’t cave under the pressure. Great input from Harri. Thanks Catherine and Harri 🌺✌️

    She got death threats.
    , country stations blacklisted them, there were public burnings of their cds...etc etc...this song is 100 per cent in response to what they faced.

    Let’s not forget that it was also meant for Toby Keith and what he said regarding this situation. At their concerts, Natalie Maine wore a t-shirt saying FU*K TK

    • @landenchantment
      @landenchantment 8 месяцев назад +2

      At Toby Keith's concerts, he put a backdrop of Natalie Maines & Saddam Hussein. This while they were inundated with death threats, their career was derailed and they had to pack up their kids and move away from Nashville to another state. I'm told that later Keith said he'd been listening to the wrong people and more or less took it back. At the time, it fanned the flames of the real danger they were in.

    Most of the album was a fuck-u to the haters. Their songs were pulled by the right wing radio stations, CDs burned, the whole bag of horrors. Just a hint of the ring wing hate to come. One of my faves on the album is “Lubbock or Leave It” about the whole Christian thing. ❤️🇨🇦

    What they said wouldn’t have been such a big deal if a male country star hadn’t gotten involved and whipped people up against them. I guess he thought he was doing the right thing but my personal opinion was he blew up a single comment into a huge controversy that lead to death threats against them and their families. Heck at that point in time I said multiple times to many people that I was ashamed to be an American and guess what? Nobody threatened me, no body called me names, told me they hated me, threatened me with death. Members of my family who were all for whatever Bush said agreed with me that the reaction against them seemed more pushed by a personal beef with them as opposed to the initial response being about what they actually said. Everyone just jumped on the hate bandwagon because, for some reason, they thought hate and threatening to kill another person was an appropriate response. I think my response to the country star who blew it all up was much more appropriate. I used to love his music and bought every album he released. Since he lit the match for this whole thing and unleashed all that hatred towards another I haven’t bought another album and I no longer listen to his music. He can sow hate but I don’t have to support it. But … and here’s the big thing, I have never tried to talk a single person out of buying or playing his music and though many people know there is a male country star I stopped listening to because of all this I have never given them a name (even when asked) and I have never suggested anyone stop listening to him. If they don’t remember from back then they can do their research and decide how they feel for themselves. Not my job to spread hate towards him. My belief is karma will give each what they deserve in the end even if it is only after death. I do have to admit I really wonder why so many people claiming to be Christian spend so much time hating others. Guess they forgot Christian means following the words of Christ.

    the video for this one is a work of art too. The Band suffered blacklisting, record burning, death threats, protests at concerts all because they said that they were not proud to be from the same state as Bush. That's it. They made a negative comment about his war and the right went ballistic.

    I had one of their albums, when Natalie gave her opinion, in 2003, at the start of the 2nd Iraq War. When their music was banned, and their records destroyed publicly -I went and bought their albums, cd singles, concert dvd, even vinyl to balance. I became a dedicated fan of these Women.
    This album is brilliant, very personal -produced by Rick Rubin. They didn’t tour for much for a while. It took The Chicks several years to make another record (personal life needs) and to change their name, without Dixie.
    (Fact, the term Dixie, for the American South, is based on the French word for Ten, “dix”. France had colonized a good portion of what became America, and Canada. The French 10 coin was more value than the early American dollar 💵. Napoleon sold the French region, when Tomas Jefferson was our President, he needed funds and resource for his wars, not colonial lands. So, up from Louisiana to the Great Lakes, along the Mississippi, the Dix’ coin was money, and the name Dixie was used. 🤔📚

Goodbye Earl, Ready to Run, Truth No 2, Cowboy Take Me Away, March March...for the record, the Chicks are definitely talking about the way they were trashed by the backwards country music establishment and fans after making that accurate comment about warmonger Bush...major respect to the Chicks

    President George W. Bush and said they were ashamed he wasTexan.

Blah blah" really is so upset every single time an opposing view to theirs uses that same right. Like jeeze. These comments are disheartening. People saying "used to like them" is crazy like all their music is suddenly bad now because they disagree. It's wild and the attitude that has our entire country crumbling at our feet.
