    • @carolynmcghee2898
      @carolynmcghee2898 3 года назад

      AB- is the universal donor for platelets so I switched to platelets. It takes more time. They filter your blood through a machine and put part of it back. Sorry not sure about details. Since it’s more time I am sure some people can’t do it. My iron level dropped so I can’t donate anymore.

    When I was a young adult & wanted to know what my blood type was I went with a friend to a blood drive to donate a pint. They sent a donor card with blood type on it with a thank you note. A win-win for both of us. We went on to donate several gallons of blood 🩸 over the years.

The navy hospital would never type our kids, calling it an unnecessary test. Now we have civilian care and they 'don't type blood unless there is a medical reason to type blood'. Hi, I recently retired from my job as a Laboratory 🥼 Technologist for 40 years. Wanted to reassure you all that if you were ever in need of blood products a blood sample would be drawn from you and cross matched with the blood product. This ensures the blood product is compatible. Even if you know your blood type they would still do a group and screen with a fresh blood sample. Pregnant women are tested for group and Rh when they have prenatal bloods drawn, their babies are grouped at birth. Hope this helps😀

Sorry I'm a smart @$$). The first thing you're asked when you go in for procedure (in or out patient surgery) is what is your blood type. If you're conscious/coherent following some kind of accident, what's your blood type. Know what mine, hub and all the kids are. have to say grandkids I don't off hand but know daughter knows what the babies are. Hub mostly knows his "I think mine is O something? Right honey?" (after 25+ years seems it has fallen to 'things I don't have to remember because she does that' for hub, since he did know it way back when)

We would never take anyone's word for it. And if they came back in 2 weeks and needed another transfusion, they would have the same lab. The blood they are getting is screened with their sample to make sure it is compatible. It is a process geared toward safety to decrease the possibility of reactions.

    I'm also a rare blood type and RH - . A- is rare and if he is ever in a car accident this is very important that the hospital knows this. I have read that personality chart before and it fits me. I think there is something to it. Also in Japan (maybe S Korea too) they have been known to hire people based on blood type with the belief that certain blood types are better for certain jobs.
    This was great! Thank you for doing this! I have been debating on getting one of these tests because my husband is not sure what he is and I think it's critical to know.
    I learned years ago when I got pregnant and they told me to have my own blood bank and I also had to get the ROGAM shot to protect me and my babies each pregnancy. If my babies developed positive blood my body would reject them as a foreign invader and it could kill them and me.
    I think it's ridiculous that Dr.'s do not think it's important for people to know their blood types. It makes me really upset because I know how important it is that I know about my blood type.

    O-...first found out giving blood...then my army dog tags confirmed it...hard to forget when it's on a tag hanging around your neck for years😁
