    The good news is that the Nav on the ID.4 is scheduled for a OTA update coming in the next 6 months so looking forward to much greater accuracy and features. The OTA updates every 90 days they say are expected should sure make this a much better car then it started out as. I am loving my Pro S. Not sure why you made the statement that a Tiguan's cost in a vacation would be the same as the ID.4. Do the math. Electricity costs at a decent charger is about 1/3rd the cost of a gallon of gas ($3.60-$6.00 a gallon).

    Thanks guys for this video of your road trip. Remember you can stop at service stations to clean your window, I have done that myself. Unless you're in Norway and at a Circle K who have them at their chargers unlikely we will see them for awhile yet not until EV's dominate the market, such as Norway, more globally. You're philosophy on charging is similar to Kyle from Out of Spec Motoring with the charger hopping idea. It is still early days in the EV world but always glad to see more and nice to see someone with an ID.4, they may not ever come to Australia but have also heard potentially 2023 but we are getting the EV6 & Ioniq 5 plus the Cupra Born(hot hatch version of ID.3) within the next 12 months supposedly.

    Good to know how far Electrify América chargers have extended making extended travels in EV a real possibility, however charging times have to come down substantially to reduce the extended charging time. Hopefuly in the near future charging times Williams be close to refulling a combustion engine vehicle.

    My wife, after many hi end MB SUVs and alike, is in Luv with her "Dumpling" our 1st edition, ID.4.
    First EV for us, so we are learning the ropes, with trips in the 100s of miles, warning up for a 3600 mi r/t from Long Island to Austin! Your extensive 3 part Vids were our evening "must watch"!
    You guys absolutely hit on all the same points that we are facing; like the ID.4 NAV system is useless for EA chargers, or any charger network, whereas we also found ABRP & Chargeway before we ventured out! I personally complained to VW US directly, but they seem slow to change, and we know more than the dealer! Great videos, very enjoyable (guess only if you are ID.4 owner?)
    Thanks and you seem like a great couple :) drive safely

    Really cool videos, thank you for putting these out. We picked up our Id.4 about three weeks ago and broke her in with a trip from Gurnee, IL to Mall of America. We ran into the same issues with the Navigation and the endless Walmart stops. :) We were lucky enough to find one Walmart up in WI that surprisingly did have a windshield cleaning station but it was being sponsored and provided by the local restaurants in the area.

    You can buy a squeegee for $6-7 and a spray bottle of window cleaner. If you are concerned about putting the wet squeegee in the car, keep it in a small towel. Problem solved. I always gassed my MB at Costco and they normally don’t provide window cleaning supplies, either, so it’s not unique to EA and Walmart.

    Very good points, hopefully VW will listen. I bought an ID4 Max here in Austria, cost me 58k EUR which is far more expensive than the US 1st edition. Overall I’m very happy with it, although the interior could be better for the price point.

    I guess I got to see this a bit late. But I have the 2022 with the new software 3.1 version. And the navigation is much better. Plus now you can only show EA or DCFC over 100kw. Still A Better Route Planner is best. I export the route to Google maps. The driver assist is really great. Will do curves for you. Not full turns. And it can be turned off and ACC can now be used without drivers assist. The screen is more responsive. Still missing Plug and charge. And the charging speed is really much higher at the lower level. I have seen it even get to 173kw.

    The Walmart issue , which is not an issue really , the thing is that it gets old on road trips but at the same time if it wasn’t for Walmart agreeing to let EA install most of their chargers around the country road trips like this would take a bit longer so thank God for Walmart’s lol.

    • @texaszag8748
      @texaszag8748 3 года назад +1

      I don’t think Walmart agreed to anything out of the kindness of their hearts. It was a business decision. You are bringing in customers that will probably have 30 minutes or more to burn while they charge, so they expect that to translate into more traffic in the stores and presumably, sales. I’m not a fan of Walmart, partly because they have a reputation for attracting problems (like crime). True or false, I’m a little disappointed that EA went to Walmart for a partner. And because they made the decision to align with the anti-maskers, etc. (my local store refused to enforce the local mask mandate), I quit giving them my money.

    If you can find 150 KW charger that vw will go from 5 percent to 80 percent in 38 minutes. Have any problems finding 150KW chargers I know all the new EA chargers are 350 KW? Tesla Bjorn checked the charging curves on the ID 4 it was pretty darn flat. Walmart does not own the chargers.

    Just tested the ID4 First Edition today after watching your video. Everything seems to be good, except for 2 things: no ventilated seats and the driver assistant really sucks. It won't even hold the car in the lane nor make the turn like the lane-keep on other cars. It appears I have activated all the systems (lane keep mark turns green). Is your car doing the same? or did I setup it wrong?

    • @EVMotoring
      @EVMotoring  3 года назад

      Where did you use it? It is intended for highway use. Also did you check in the “assist” menu on the infotainment? There are a lot of features that need to be turned on. In previous videos I have also mentioned that I think Autopilot and Ford CoPilot are superior. Unfortunately none of the big 3 EV brands (Tesla, Ford, & VW) have ventilated seats.

      I suspect that you may never get the onboard nav to direct you to EA chargers. At least not in the near-term. Since VW is a major partner with EA it would most likely be viewed as anti-competitive to feature their own charging network in the nav system. I was told recently at my dealership that that was the case, so…

    Can we talk about the price of the ID.4? The "MSRP" that all the VW dealers I see list is significantly higher than the MSRP quoted on the VW site. And then they say that destination and dealer processing fee are on top of that. If dealers want to charge a premium that's up to them - but how does an "MSRP" end up being almost $2K more than the MSPRP quoted on the VW site? Was this your experience too?

    • @EVMotoring
      @EVMotoring  3 года назад

      We did not encounter any of these issues. Our car was preordered tho and I know VW was very strict on dealers that they could not do any funny business on preorders

    • @texaszag8748

      I was told by VW that the MSRP was exactly that, the SUGGESTED retail price and that dealers are free to set their own prices. I believe there was a disclaimer to that effect on their website.
