Bob Wilson was one of the great groove drummers of his time, but was very underrated and relatively unknown. His cymbal and hi-hat rides were always moving in sixteenths, like a machine gun. His driving groove was relentless. Plus, he wrote the majority of Seawind's music. An unbelievable talent!
blakecam how spot on you are! Bob Wilson is one of the most amazing and "innovative" drummers I have ever heard! His pocjet, groove creativity and time signatures AND songwriter prowesd has never been duplicated in my humble opinion. I have been a fan of Bob Wilson and Seawind since age 16, I dont know if we will ever witness the type of talent and versatility of Seawind again. They have been compared to T O P and though T O P is an amazing band, they are not as diverse in their approach to music as Seawind is I close by saying Bob Wilson to this day is still my favorite drummer and ive heard em all. Cheers!
Kim Hutchcroft leads the worship ministry at my church, still playing and sounding great! Oddly enough I've been working with Messina since '05 too. Pauline came to our show a few years back and sat in....
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH! It still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting this song. The lyrics are so powerful and it would be so nice to have peace on earth, no hunger, no hatred, no lying. Even so come Lord Jesus. I want to be ready for YOU Lord Jesus, so I can spend eternity with You.
Saw these guys 4 or 5 times in a little club on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City called the Baked Potato. Out of the blue I just remembered them. Fantastic.
The band indeed is mixing their newest CD. Woodwind ace Kim Hutchroft heads the worship ministry @ The Packinghouse church in Redlands, California. It's always an honor to play my horn in front of him as he and the band were heroes of mine too in the wonderful 70's. Bud Nunez has also been out to the church to add his tasty guitar to the worship!
The way she is hollering that, "FREEEEE.....", Gawd!!! She's so in the pocket with that. She's "pressing" that word so surely, with such certainty; with unbreakable will.
Beyond awesome! Love Seawind from their start in Hawaii. Still have the vinyl and cassettes. Pauline has such an amazing voice and Seawind is to talented. You did a great job with the visuals, the hawk and the dolphins. Most excellent post Jazzyman!
I loved Seawind! We essentially made them in Detroit on my ex-radio station, WJZZ. Unfortunately, Pauline left Bob Wilson and the band to run off with Jim Messina (Buffalo Springfield, Poco), as I recall. As of 2002, they apparently (with Pauline ) launched a new album. I wish them the best. They really were SO wonderful 30 years ago!
The music might not be as raw as TOP but the musicians in Seawind held their own and produced music which captured a much broader spectrum IMHO. You should check out their LPs on CTI which go from gospel to funk, soul, ballads, latin and jazz fusion pretty much effortlessly.... too eclectic for their own good perhaps. :)
i own both the albums, they made my teenage years so much more enjoyable! and the worst thing was when they were exchanging hands at £100 each i never sold the m nowdays i couldnt give them away! but i never wouldX
This was on the album "Light the Light", which was the very first jazz album/tape that I bought, back in 1979, after hearing them on then jazz station, KKGO 105fm.
You hardly ever heard a copy band do their material, it was just eons above the average Holiday Inn lounge band capabilities. I did know of a horn band in the disco days at a popular night club in Houston, they did a couple of these songs.....so sad, the crowd didn't know know how to appreciate the musicianship.
I wonder why Quincy didn't use Tower or Chicago when he was putting out some of the baddest music on the planet...hmmm...a never ending argument I suppose but fun to perpetuate.

Saw these guys 4 or 5 times in a little club on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City called the Baked Potato. Out of the blue I just remembered them. Fantastic.

Me too, this is my favorite--I always liked the instrumental Enchanted Dance also
Great song, and so good to hear it again. We used to play this song, way back in '79, while living on Maui...

Loved it then, and now. Thanks -
Thank you that was great, I used to see them regularly all around whenever I could. Great memories.
I love this track, i have it on a comp. the vocal always puts me in the mind of Teena Marie. Fusion at its best. Pure escapism !
Everybody from brother Theo to Alex from Jazzanova were banging this all year, the comeback jam of the year.

Seaweed started in Hawaii as a band called Ox back in the early-mid 70s!
+igp808 Seawind not Seaweed, are you sure they were not called Oxen instead of Ox when they started out ;)
Pulsonar ... Before the name Seawind they were called Ox!...... Frank B from Hawaii....
Great percussion works

Just decided that this is gonna be my wedding song.
This was on the album "Light the Light", which was the very first jazz album/tape that I bought, back in 1979, after hearing them on then jazz station, KKGO 105fm.

Her vocal verve; Her vocal chops very percussive.

Tightest horn section ever...even tighter than Tower of Power.
