For a group that idolizes Archie Bunker, they never seem to understand anything about All in the Family. Archie was often shown as being a jerk, and being shown that he was wrong in the end. There will be a character that is shown as being “weird” by conventional standards, and then the show demonstrates that “oh, they’re actually just like us and deserve respect.” Archie wasn’t the good guy. Archie was comic relief and the stand-in for a closed-minded bigot who gets humbled.
Also Archie generally tried to be polite (not successfully but hey) unless or until he got mad (or if its someone he already knew like Michael or his neighbors)

As someone with allergies the part about this show brushing off allergies scares me a bit. When someone says they're allergic to something in the environment (pets, food, items) that not them being "sensitive" or in this case the gender of the pet isn't going to make the allergy magically disappear. It's can be deadly & to have a show act like allergies as something not to be taken seriously is going to result in some people not taking their friend or fanily members allergies as seriously & could lead to a medical emergency or death

Chekovs Gun is an old movie (and maybe stage) trope about if you draw attention to a seemingly random object then that must come into play later on. It is not a reference to Star Trek however as where most of us might know a Chekov from. In the case of the name then it was with a close up of a gun for seemingly no reason, only for that gun to then be used before the end. And so with the beer it was with focusing on it getting shaken up so therefore the pay off would be someone getting caught out by it later.
The Checkov of Chekhov’s gun is… definitely not the character Chekhov from Star Trek. It’s Anton Chekov, one of the most famous and respected playwrights of all time, and the principle that if a gun appears in scene one, it must be fired before the end of the play. It’s older than television but it’s such a common concept of narrative.

Chekhov's gun is the name of a writing trope. Basically, if you prominently show a gun hanging on a wall somewhere in the beginning of a piece of media, it will be fired at some point later. It's basically a specific kind of foreshadowing and it doesn't just apply to guns, but that is the example that the trope was named after. If you see something that has a specific function being unused in the beginning of a movie, it might come back later and fulfill it's function. OT saw the beer can being dropped on the floor and immediately realized the foreshadowing aspect. "Why would you show a beer can being dropped on the floor and shaken through if you aren't going to open it and have it spray everywhere later?" is the same kind of question as "Why would you show a gun prominently displayed on the wall, if it isn't going to be fired at all?". So in this case the beer can is a Chekhov's gun, as it is an object that has the story function of a Chekhov's gun. So in this case one could call it a Chekhov's beer can, as OT did. I don't know how good of an explanation that was, but I tried 😅

like I've said, I can't say much about the US, but in Poland they say the same shit, even amidst the rule of an ultra-conservative PiS ("Law and Justice") party, they cried about transing kids and chopping off the peepees of minors when at the same time, I, a 26 (at the time) years old trans person, had to burn all my savings (I couldn't start medical transition earlier because I plainly couldn't afford to drive around Poland to beg various professionals to let me take HRT; public healthcare doesn't cover this at all, you need a slip from a therapist (psychologist), a psychiatrist AND a sexologist, there are like 3 trans-friendly professionals of each profession in the entire country, you need to pay out of your pocket for the visits, and don't ever dream of getting HRT as a non-binary person or blockers as a minor) to spend months begging various professionals to let me get the goddamn pills - they'll talk about trans surgeries on little kids when in reality people in their 30s (who had gender dysphoria since fucking kindergarten and are 100% sure) can't get stupid HRT, many trans people just take black market HRT and abandon all hope of ever being legally recognized, or, no matter how many bows I put in my hair and assure everyone that my peepee doesn't even work (can't get it removed cos I can't afford it and it's lowkey illegal, people travel to Asia to get vaginoplasty), there's zero chance of me entering the gender-appropriate toilet, and I get harassed pretty much every day on the street already, so you can imagine how uncomfortable it is to be in the men's restroom looking like a girl from Kidz Bop, pink everything, hair bows, Hello Kitty merch, of course a plaid skirt cos I have a kawaii style - many people actually think I'm a cis girl (and kick me out of there), but I don't pass that well (I'm in the cursed middle), so I'd get my ass beaten if I entered the women's restroom, so ultimately the solution transphobes offer me is not peeing at all, I'm just not allowed to exist, but transphobes will play the victims (oh yeah, poor transphobes have to perceive "a boy in a skirt" on the street, the visual makes them uncomfortable, never mind that I don't pass because it's them who didn't allow me to transition early enough not to look weird, they're the real victims because they have to see a gender-freak on the street, not me who was forced to become a gender-freak instead of a normal girl: I can't go to the proper restroom, I can't go to the gym, I can't go outside without causing a major controversy, I can't have a normal life, I'll never have a boyfriend, I'm barely allowed to exist, but certainly not live, all because of them, but they're the victims 😂 give me a break)

For a group that idolizes Archie Bunker, they never seem to understand anything about All in the Family. Archie was often shown as being a jerk, and being shown that he was wrong in the end. There will be a character that is shown as being “weird” by conventional standards, and then the show demonstrates that “oh, they’re actually just like us and deserve respect.” Archie wasn’t the good guy. Archie was comic relief and the stand-in for a closed-minded bigot who gets humbled.

As someone with allergies the part about this show brushing off allergies scares me a bit. When someone says they're allergic to something in the environment (pets, food, items) that not them being "sensitive" or in this case the gender of the pet isn't going to make the allergy magically disappear. It's can be deadly & to have a show act like allergies as something not to be taken seriously is going to result in some people not taking their friend or fanily members allergies as seriously & could lead to a medical emergency or death

Chekovs Gun is an old movie (and maybe stage) trope about if you draw attention to a seemingly random object then that must come into play later on. It is not a reference to Star Trek however as where most of us might know a Chekov from. In the case of the name then it was with a close up of a gun for seemingly no reason, only for that gun to then be used before the end.
And so with the beer it was with focusing on it getting shaken up so therefore the pay off would be someone getting caught out by it later.

Chekhov's gun is the name of a writing trope. Basically, if you prominently show a gun hanging on a wall somewhere in the beginning of a piece of media, it will be fired at some point later. It's basically a specific kind of foreshadowing and it doesn't just apply to guns, but that is the example that the trope was named after. If you see something that has a specific function being unused in the beginning of a movie, it might come back later and fulfill it's function. OT saw the beer can being dropped on the floor and immediately realized the foreshadowing aspect. "Why would you show a beer can being dropped on the floor and shaken through if you aren't going to open it and have it spray everywhere later?" is the same kind of question as "Why would you show a gun prominently displayed on the wall, if it isn't going to be fired at all?". So in this case the beer can is a Chekhov's gun, as it is an object that has the story function of a Chekhov's gun. So in this case one could call it a Chekhov's beer can, as OT did. I don't know how good of an explanation that was, but I tried 😅

Anyone who knows anything about football and the NFL knows that the Jets are in the AFC East, and Washington is in the NFC East, they are not rivals. He should have said a Giants fan… if he wanted the joke to make sense. The Giants and Washington are in the same division and therefore would be actual rivals.
That's the line closest to an actual joke in the whole pilot though. It's not anti-woke nonsense, I think, just a regular sports comment. It makes enough sense, if you don't know about the NFC/AFC difference.

yeah only when your sick, people that still get mad at people who wear masks are actually the r word, it's saftey for yourself and others and nothing more! asians have been wearing masks to protect themselves from either air pollution or just being sick, even for fashion, the rest of the world should get on board right, but yeah, i don't own any anymore so.. If im sick ill just stay inside, i wouldn't wear one EVERY time i went outside lol that's excessive
Wear one if you want/need to. In the heat of the pandemic it was understandable to mandate them, but not nowadays. If you’re sick, wear one. If not, it’s just an inconvenience. I hate that it’s become a political symbol.

@@orangeoliverpeople can be contagious even without symptoms, and there’s definitely still high numbers of covid cases rn, so it is important to mask up if you can even if you don’t feel sick so help protect others from getting it
