An instructional video of how to dig and develop a shallow well. We will be connecting a Dankoff Slow Pump to this well that has a static water level of 8 ft. There is approximately 1000 gallons of reserve in the gravel bed. Filter fabric covers the stone. We are getting a 9.5gpm recovery rate and we will be pumping at 2gpm to a 1100 gallon buried cistern. #practprep #sustainability
Excellent video. We just put in our second shallow groundwater Well, following the steps/instructions in this video. Straightforward (apart from the odd rocks) and successful if your water-table is within reasonable distance of the ground surface. Our groundwater Wells are an alternative to hugely expensive commercial drilled bores. For the disciplined domestic needs of our co-op members the lower capacity wells are more than adequate and supplement our rainwater harvesting. Water quality testing showed high Iron and Manganese but no ecoli/feacal contamination. Simple aeration and filtering brought the levels down to recommended. (Always test the water.) Thanks for a magic video. Neil Gribble Queensland Australia.
Really useful video. I used this as a guide to installing my own "shallow ground water Well". I went down 9.5 meters, the full stretch of the excavator arm, then installed a Well pipe and gravel pack as per your suggestions. The recharge rate is 30 liters/min and I use an eBay submersible pump (Singflo) to pump 6 litrers/min of clean water. Tested out as typical od district with high iron and coliform bacteria. Sincere thanks for your work. Neil (Queensland, Australia)
A simple in-line Venturi aerator and a 60m long connector hose to the storage tank (with a sediment filter on the outlet) reduced the Iron level acceptable limits. Neil.
Great job as always!! You inspire me to no end with the projects you do. I've got to put something like that in at my property this fall. I think I'll use a standard pitless adapter though so it can be disconnected using a T pipe. Thanks again for sharing, you're a very talented man and you convey a lot of excellent information for all who view your channel.
That is a great alternative well for a vegetable garden wtshtf imo, I would surely like to see and know more of what the filter consists of and the pump you installed. engineer 775 you are a awesome source for anything and everything about survival and I thank you for that.
That's nice , good job. I think I would invest in a brass pitiless adapter, only just to remove the pump with a tee bar instead of Having to reach down and unscrew the union . But I like your pitiless , just saying if the coast is not a lot between the two , I would use a bras pitiless . Thanks again .
Hello: I wonder how the water was found. That much water can't be a wet weather spring, That truck looked like it had Mack rear ends. The dog gave it a ok check. You are the water man.
What you are calling a well head is actually a drive or driven point. What I did by adding the 20 tons of gravel provides a 1500 gallon reservoir. Yes I could have driven a point and I will be doing that soon at a different location.
Interesting video. Where did you purchase the 30 in 10 micron filter and is it washable? If not, how often have you had to replace it in this application?
Nice video E775 , how many gpm are you pumping with this well? I see in the description that you said 2gm but was wondering if it can pump way more based on how much water was coming out of the trash pump. How deep is the shallow well?
that depend on many factors. cost of the gear u plan on using to training, to insurance if you plan on going as a company or corporation. or if you just do it on your own land.
I have a question . I am looking to buy 9 acres and the owner said a water witch told them 30 yrs ago that there was a stream about 40' down in a spot. Have you ever work with a water witch and how reliable are they??? thanks
Well I don't like witches and I wouldn't trust one. That being said dousing is a method used to find water and there are some folks that are good at and some are complete loons!
engineer775 Practical Preppers I agree on the witches ...I dont think she was a witch but I was married to an evil women once. I will read up or utube on dousing and see if I can dbl check the readings before I dig. It might be fun too learn. they said it was 40 ft down. thanks

@@neilgribble5878 Hello Neil Gribble. I would like to get in touch with you as I am in Queensland and want to construct one of these wells.
Excellent work, Scott! Keep it up. My family is significantly better prepared for come-what-may because of your efforts.
Very kind! Thank you!

Great job E775! As always, very educational. I may have to try this on our farm.
A self refilling 1500 gallon water back up. Nice job!
Great job as always!!

Thank you! Yes I could have used a pitless but wanted to make my own. :)

engineer 775 you are a awesome source for anything and everything about survival and I thank you for that.
I really like this idea .
Good work .
in the oilfield we call (something similar in concept to) that a gravel-pack completion
WELL THATS A DEEP SUBJECT
Makes me jealous. wish getting water was that easy up here. I'm thinking of trying to develop a spring which would be about as easy as I could get.

Very nice! When you get done there I need one to, just kidding I can do this. Great information thanks!
Outstanding...
great video. .. I love the idea..
Any idea when Part II with the slow pump will be published? I am going to copy this design on my land in the spring!!! Thanks
Hello: I wonder how the water was found. That much water can't be a wet weather spring, That truck looked like it had Mack rear ends. The dog gave it a ok check. You are the water man.
I used my hand auger to find the water first.
its called a well head. You can drive it into the ground without digging and make a shallow well.
What you are calling a well head is actually a drive or driven point. What I did by adding the 20 tons of gravel provides a 1500 gallon reservoir. Yes I could have driven a point and I will be doing that soon at a different location.
Couldn't hear a word you said over the generator. :( Hopefully there will be better info with part 2. It looked interesting.
What would you recommend for a hand pump with good quality and long lasting time.
Where is video 2?
Interesting video. Where did you purchase the 30 in 10 micron filter and is it washable? If not, how often have you had to replace it in this application?
What hand pump do you recommend for a regular well?
Nice video E775 , how many gpm are you pumping with this well? I see in the description that you said 2gm but was wondering if it can pump way more based on how much water was coming out of the trash pump. How deep is the shallow well?
How'd you get the excavator? Did you rent it, or buy it? If you bought it, how much did it cost?
Is that really aquifer water, a spring or just ground water?
So much for not making a mess, you destroyed a couple of acres of land. How is this hidden? It looks like a huge contruction site.
Is there any money in well digging/drilling? I find it fascinating (plus I hate my day job).
that depend on many factors. cost of the gear u plan on using to training, to insurance if you plan on going as a company or corporation. or if you just do it on your own land.
What dimension filter cloth did you use for that size hole and where is it available from? Thanks.
25ft by whatever length you want. I get it from a local culvert/irrigation supplier.
Thanks very much!

It might be fun too learn. they said it was 40 ft down.
thanks
onli 5 meter dip?
Where could I get a hand auger?
make it that way you'll learn new skills.
is it safe to drink surface water?
***** thanks

also good to use a .05 to a .10 micron water filter as well.
Great vid except I could not hear what you were saying though most of it because of the back round noise!
It was great to watch but at times hard to hear what you were saying. A bit to much background noise.
Is anyone else having problems with audio quality on this video? It is totally garbled for me.
Normally love your videos but engine and equipment noise was awful.
hey you know you dont have spam us with the same stuff twice now.
