Oh lawd! Mo has once again taught me to take caring for my hair more seriously. I do wash my combs and brushes with shampoo but never thought about doing the disinfectant part.
Finally! Someone who talks about the importance of cleaning your hair tools before and after use. While waiting for my hair to continue to deep condition, I ALWAYS clean my tools. I never used anything but shampoo to do so. And yes I clean the sink before and after I do my hair. Thank you for this vid!
My mom taught us to always soak hair tools weekly with shampoo ( or dawn if we ran out) for 20-30mins then clean thoroughly with a brush. I love the smell of hair tools once they’re clean 😍.
I always use Dr.Bronners soap to clean my edge control/gel brushes, clips and combs but never thought about my bristle brushes 🤦🏽♀️. Thanks for the reminder.
I’m so happy for this video. Since I am the only person using my tools, I was just washing them the with my shampoo. When you know better, you do better. Thank you for the knowledge. Now I know!
Wow that was just so informative. I wash or try to wash with an inexpensive clarifying shampoo every wash day but never thought to disinfect. Great tip!
So helpful! Thank you. I was just searching up how to do this a few weeks ago, and the results of those videos didn't look clean enough for me. I'll definitely look into this method.
This is such a great topic, awesome tips as well Mo, THAANNKKK YOUUU ‼️LOOOVVVEEEE ITTTT‼️‼️‼️‼️ Abundant Blessings from above 🙏🏽 Much Love from Louisiana ♥️♥️♥️
Wow!!! I usually rinse them with Dr. Bronners, never thought to continue them and using a nail brush. 😉 Now I gotta look over my tools my next hairspa day. Thanks so much!
Thanks for posting this video. I've been cleaning my hair tools wrong for years. I clean a large tub then pour boiling water in it, add several household cleaners & let the tools soak for hours. Then rinse & dry. I'll do better after watching this video.
This convicted me. I must do better! I have an oooooooooold bristle brush that’s my absolute fav. I can’t bring myself to throw it away, because it was my great aunt Ida’s then became my granny’s. They’ve both since departed this life and it’s a memento of them that I not only cherish, but still use practically everyday.
Wonderful surprise this evening!!! Love your videos and your knowledge for hair and keeping us together on this healthy hair journey!!! Love it!!! Keep them coming!!! 💜💜💜
ginadcampbell Thank you for this video v because I thought I had it together but guess not I clean my hair tools like this and I love the tips👍I can’t stand hair in my brushes or combs it grosses me out . Thanks
I have always had issues with my scalp being inflamed but never thought until recently that not properly disinfecting my tools could be the reason why. Wow. Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been watching you for years and appreciate all that you’ve taught us. This literally may be the last breakthrough that I needed to get my scalp issues + shedding under control.
@therougebar Love your products! They’ve been working wonders for my curls! I have hair like yours and I’ve been subscribed since the beginning watching and letting you help me manage and style my curls! Keep it up beautiful sista! **Also my entry from the Instagram product contest.
This question isn't really related to the video but can you share the correct process (i.e. what come first, next, last) for deep conditioning or hot oil treatments. Should I hot oil treatment my hair first then wash and condition? Same question for deep conditioning. What are the proper steps for maximum effectiveness? And can I use black castor oil as an hot oil treatment?
ginadcampbellYes thank you because I thought I was cleaning my hair tools the right way but guess not but I cleaned them and went and got some new ones thanks for the tip👍
Do you still have links to the tools shown in the video? I just tossed my old paddle brush and I really like Denman... Looked in the description and it was the first thing you mentioned 😂🤦🤦
What about cleaning hot tools, like flat irons and curling irons? I hate when they smell I have been k ow to just buy new ones when they start to leave my clean hair smelling
And please folks...wash your sink out BEFORE using it to clean your tools.
I like to wash mine after. It saves me cleaning it twice. Edit: but I don’t clean my brushes and combs this way
Oh lawd! Mo has once again taught me to take caring for my hair more seriously. I do wash my combs and brushes with shampoo but never thought about doing the disinfectant part.
Never thought i'd see a video like this. I've cleaned my hair tools like this forever. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you as always
@Sharmaine925. I’ve always cleaned my hair & tools regularly since I was younger. I use a toothbrush to get in the cracks & crevices real good
This video is very helpful. I hang on to my brushes for way to long
ginadcampbell Thank you for this video v because I thought I had it together but guess not I clean my hair tools like this and I love the tips👍I can’t stand hair in my brushes or combs it grosses me out . Thanks

Come with it to close out 2020 ma'am!!🙌🏽
Can you do one on cleaning heat styling tools?
@CrysTeamer Really good info. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Mo, can I include my spray bottles in this same regimen please?
@therougebar Love your products! They’ve been working wonders for my curls! I have hair like yours and I’ve been subscribed since the beginning watching and letting you help me manage and style my curls! Keep it up beautiful sista! **Also my entry from the Instagram product contest.
@dejavue31 this was highly informative and you clearly and slowly explain it so I can actually follow!
@araphaelle useful tips!
@lissy2lovies....great video thanks for sharing!
@moknowshair Does using a clarifying shampoo strip the coconut oil on the Cricket detangler comb?
No.
Why do all of the dope hair influencers all have that one hater that dislikes their videos? What is that?!
Thanks for the always helpful tips, Mo!
What if you don’t have barbecide ? Any substitutes?
May I use a disinfectant spray (Lysol) instead of the bardicide?
No... As I said in the beginning, household cleaners are too harsh for your tools and will strip the material and bristles
How do you clean a curling iron with hard plastic bristles?
Should I be concerened about water getting trapped inside of the brushes?
You know us all too well, thrown in a drawer 😆. Thanks for explaining!
@ms_elenie_ous. I've actually done this but no Barbacide.. 😅 usually clean off my clips after I use them.

Which boar brush do you recommend?
Watching this video inspired me to clean my hair tools today.
Can I substitute isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol for barbicide?
No. They do not have the same function.
ginadcampbellYes thank you because I thought I was cleaning my hair tools the right way but guess not but I cleaned them and went and got some new ones thanks for the tip👍
Do you still have links to the tools shown in the video? I just tossed my old paddle brush and I really like Denman...
Looked in the description and it was the first thing you mentioned 😂🤦🤦
Can barbicide stay in the spray bottle when not in use??
Yes
ig@Nehann2 I have to admit I do not clean my hair tools regularly.🤦🏿♀️ Thanks for the reminder. I will do better.
I feel educated and attacked 😂😂💖
@genuinelyperfect
What about cleaning hot tools, like flat irons and curling irons? I hate when they smell I have been k ow to just buy new ones when they start to leave my clean hair smelling
I’ve never experienced that... maybe try wiping off with a microfiber towel after use, not while still super hot, but when almost cool
When you say smelling, are you talking about a burnt smell?
@@Bennetts3044 not really burnt but if you use your iron on dirty hair they seem to never smell right again.
@rockyourglory_
This video is very helpful
I definitely clean my tools after I wash & style my hair
@sisteriasimmons this video is extremely helpful
What's the name of that paddlebrush?
It’s by Denman
Do you like the Denman paddle better than the Aveda one?
@thebsimp..... never knew any of this
Where do you store your brushes?
I have a credenza with just hair tools.
👍L.I.K.E.!!
👍
