People seem to be missing one key point of this song. It's about people putting aside their differences and uniting against those that are using people's fear, anger and hatred to control us and keep us divided.

I like how your version of the song gives more of a darker meaning to the lyrics. Phil’s version is almost dreamlike, hopeful that we can change. This version feels gritty, raw, like we’re clinging to the last hope. I love it
You couldn't said any better, that's the best way of interpreting both songs. There's a mixture of both versions here on RUclips, the mix of Disturbed's agressive and gritty sound and Genesis' dramatic, optimistic and hopeful style blend together perfectly and almost give the song and heroic feeling, like this time things will put be right, like change really is on our hands.
All disturbed did was hit straight to the point. When Phil Collins made this, the Cold War was a scare to everybody. Everyone back then looked up to people like Superman and this song. In the end, they made things a bit happier on another shity day in the Cold War. People seek happiness over truth.
A bit depressing that a song from nearly 40 years ago and this version released over 10 years ago still holds meaning today. No generation seems to have got it right yet 😞
Trying to compare this song to the original is like comparing apples to oranges. They're two totally different genres, although this version is really good. Despite it being Metal, they were able to mimic the feel of the original song quite well. This is definatly a more modern Land of Confusion. Props to you, Disturbed.
Well, I honestly loved the original but i feel like phil collins was the only good thing about genesis. he's much better standalone and very few genesis songs were that good. Disturbed is a great band and it's a great cover. just my take on it.
Must agree, most metal covers of non-metal songs add so much noise, you lose the original punch of the song (Smooth Criminal comes to mind). Yes, props to these guys for not throwing so much distortion at this song that you still get that rolling, punchy feel that the original had.

Meanwhile people want Biden to expand the Supreme Court (FDR wasn’t allowed to do this and this caused concern that he wanted to be a dictator) and I’ve heard a renowned bbc journalist and another well known actress straight-up say that Biden needs to step up and delete Donald Trump…. That’s concerning. And Trump’s trial certainly seems politically motivated, especially the more you find out, for the most part. And Trump didn’t rlly politically target anyone, he talked big talk about Hillary but nothing came of that. Not to mention I find it comforting that lies are a lot easier to spot on the right, because the left in instances not only manipulate but change language, leftist media is wild and I never imagined until after the debate that they’d be so one-sided, I get that trump lied a lot (most was obvious) but they actively didn’t correct him on some of his falsehoods… now right wing media can be the same but it’s much harder for them and that’s prolly just cuz they don’t have the influence these other organizations do
The original song by genesis was released back in 1986, this was released in 2006 and here we are in 2020, and it still feels f'ing relevant more than it should.

Not the biggest fan of Disturbed. That being said, great cover. Has that aggressive edge needed given the state of everything everywhere. The video is icing on the cake. Amplifying the original song with their musical style while providing a visual expression fitting of their interpretation of it. Disturbed did justice to Genesis' original track. Love it. Rock on. Peace.🤘✌️
You know it's a top shelf track when it gets you into not one awesome band but two. Heard this cover first, which got me into Disturbed. Saw this video when when I searched for the track here and it's been on my pick-me-up playlist ever since. Was listening to it when my mum was around, she says it sounds familiar... I know the lyrics by heart at this point and say a few bars. She recognises it from Genesis, which gets me into their stuff. Land of Confusion expresses a timeless sentiment that resonates with a lot of the working class. No matter how bad it gets, no matter how tight the 1% squeezes, there's no killing the feeling art like this inspires. We know we're free, we know every cent they hoard was made by us, and we know that when the scales tip too far we can take it all back. The capital monarchy knows all that too, despite their endless grasping. They can't help it; it's all they know. There's not much love to go 'round. Keep it in hand. Remember your name. We're all gonna need it soon.
I've loved this song since i was a College teen.... But to me, it's always been a representation of willpower, standing together and doing what's right in the face of adversary. This is to me, why we never see the hero guy's actual face... Because he's a representation/manifestation of the beaten down masses, finally finding within themselves the strength they need. He could literally be the "Every Joe" or that one gutsy person that stands up and everybody rallies around. That's why I loved this video, from day 1.
in my opinion Disturbed's version is better in terms of the video (biased as im an animation major) and the drums (learned to play the drums for this version), while the original sounds better in terms of lyrics

@The Other Point Of View I believe its supposed to symbolize greed of the government and war for profit not capitalism just my opinion. If it is capitalism it be hypocritical since all their money they made off it.
Austin Blackburn War for profit is a facet of corporate capitalism. Also since such capitalism is the dominant ideology at this time, pointing out that it’s hypocritical to criticize the system you’re obliged to participate in is useless. It doesn’t invalidate the criticism, either. To your point...I’m pretty sure this fits in with their whole “music as a weapon” vibe.
@@alexarvanitis4331 I'd have to disagree about war for profit and capitalism being the same. Maybe I could agree crony capitalism however that would only apply to companies that get bail outs and special contracts by the government. Also war for profit only benefits a very small number of businesses and hurts the rest to say large corporations like Google are actually making any large profit off war is dishonest. Most companies have very little power to force you to do anything so capitalism is just the natural result of letting people buy and sell whatever they want for a price both parties can agree upon. It only becomes bad if the government allows and works with companies to have more power than they are supposed to have removing what was supposed to be an even playing field which is crony capitalism. If large corporations had the type of power you suggest why would Walmart ever let Amazon sell anything more than books. Their have been a few cases of crony capitalism such as corn subsidies, bank bail outs, and bail outs of wall Street but all of these actually bad parts of capitalism are a result of the government also known as crony capitalism. Also if this was truly a criticism of the 1% and capitalism the lead singer is worth over 10 million well into the 1% and even though he is in a capitalist society he still could give away over 90% of his wealth to those less fortunate and still live a life far more extravagant than most.
Description of the clip: 0:05 The Dark Messiah(also known as The Vengeful One) landing into the modern world. 0:09 - 0:16 Soldiers with English and Russian flags on their uniforms mean the world's governments working together against the people even when they are showing themselves as enemies of each other to their people. Fighter jets are bombing the energy facilities to "declare war" but in fact both the attacker and owner of the energy facilities' governments planned that together. 0:17 You can clearly see that big fat guy in a casual suit symbolizes the capitalism. 0:18 - 0:23 It's showing the British(used in WW1), German(used in ww2), and American(commonly used in Afghanistan and Iraq war) tanks in order. The important point is all of them have the same flag(it's similiar to nazi flag) on them. 0:24 - 0:25 Fighter jets bombing an asian territory probably it's a reference to Vietnam war because of the ambience. 0:27 - 0:30 Shows the terror events which planned by governments. A guy who is wearing a balaclava is shooting to civilians and armed soldiers ganking the people's houses to suppress them. 0:31 - 0:33 Fighter jets bombing a modern city, the rich and strong people losing nothing but the normal citizens of the world is dying under the bombs. 0:35 - 0:43 Vengeful one got chained by the public enemy: governments. He is trying for a while then breaking his chains off. 0:44 - 0:48 Shows a few presidents/leaders of the head governments. 0:49 - 0:50 Capitalism sits down to his chair and you can see the place where the leaders are arguing. That means they are all getting controlled by capitalism. 1:01 There is a possiblity that scene is a reference to Sept. 11, 2001. 1:13 - 1:15 It's showing the many flags on the same soldiers' arms (again). 1:17 - 1:29 First a soldier running over a doll and breaking it into pieces, then soldiers are attacking to unarmed civilians. Other than that their robotic appereances mean they are nothing more than robots. You can also see a scared child(probably african) at 1:23. Finally an islamic[ofc it's just an image which is manipulated by governments so they can freely use the Islam to hide the real makers(themselves) of the events] terrorist leader sending a kid to death by using her as a kamikaze. 1:56 Vengeful one is putting up his right hand to air while leading the people against the evil forces. It's not his left hand because probably they wanted to stay out of any ideology like socialism in the video. 1:57 - 2:01 Big Ben(London), Arc de Triomphe(Paris), an iconic street of Tokyo, Süleymaniye Mosque (Istanbul), Statue of Liberty(New York and sadly all of them are in ruins. 2:05 - 2:36 People are fighting with the soldiers. You can clearly see most of them are rock/metal music listeners by looking how they look like. Also there is a great detail at 2:05, he is an Injun(the local people of North America). 2:38 - 2:39 The capitalism keeps smoking his cigar and smiles while turning to screen which displays the fight between soldiers and citizens. He literally enjoys watching it because he always earned more by the more people died. 2:43 - 2:46 Ironically both NATO and Warsaw Pact member countries(governments)' flags in the same place. (check: alliances during cold war years) 2:48 - 3:06 People beat up the soldiers of governments so cities and the world wonders are rewinding. 3:12 You can clearly see the all flags this time. 3:15 - 4:23 Probably a government building such as senate or parliament. The guy of capitalism(symbolically as we said before) sitting in there with confidence and you can also see the people beating the "leaders" in there. All of these "leaders" are getting panicked when the Vengeful one breaks down the gate of their room. Finally people beat the capitalism and the Vengeful one finishes him off, then you can see a rain of cash all over the city(maybe it symbolizes the fair distribution of income). 4:34 - 4:48 In the end Vengeful one is calling people to join him one more time but the people are not sure about it. They are also unhappy and stressed because of the lack of authority. Anyway they accept the Vengeful One and hold up their hands together for a better future.

The best covers are the ones that can be enjoyed just as much as the originals. Genesis put their heart and soul into writing and performing this song way back then, and Disturbed put just as much passion into their performance of it since, even though they didn't originally write it, it's exactly the kind of song they would write about exactly a topic they already write about. There's no conflict of interest, no clashing perspectives, nothing like that. That passion shines through in their performance and makes it that much better than if it were just some soulless cover that a record label made them do or something.

@@satinsguard Splitting hairs over irrelevance only blinds further what truly matters. The year in which this cover was released is not nearly as important as how the lyrics relate to America's current politicatal landscape. Phil Collins/Genesis released this song in 1986 during the Reagan administration & the final years of the Cold War. I argue that the content of this song is more suitable today than it ever was prior. Other unintentionally prophetic songs that may describe our country's current dire situation are Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction & Sting - Russians.
There have never been a truer song than this. Specially in these crazy ass times we need to pull together and stop tearing down ourselves for shits and giggles.

Very powerful, symbolic moment in this song. When it says "superman where are you now", and the wind blows a giant S onto the guys chest, and he just kinda tears it off. Like saying "no, I'm not a hero", the. He goes on to do what he does in the rest of the video. The way I see it, they're saying you don't have to be anything special to have such a profound positive influence on society.
Yes in the whole video the main character is presented as part of the crowd. He is also in comparison pretty short, metaphorical equals size=power. But he has a special position in the szenario. I would argue the Character symbolizes the Band. Also the S is the Symbol of the Regime.
Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn. He's an interesting guy for sure. I recommend the HBO animated series, the unrated version. It's basically all this style of animation.
Or, it can be interpreted to show that the guy is not interested in personal fame. He doesn't to it for personal gain but for something higher. Higher than himself or any other person. He serves the idea which drove him to seek justice onto our world and its leaders. That is why he casts aside that S letter. He isn't for individual. He is for the higher idea. We have let those rule our world who seek personal gain, most of the times with cost to someone else. The idea that it is good to have personal greed and the persons who have that trait naturally should get bigger portion of our collective resources (in other words, get paid more for their contribution to our world), is precisely the idea that we must kill if we ever want to have harmony with nature and in our lives again. We should not tolerate greed from anyone, least from our leaders.

In the end, it would be cool if they had turned their backs on the chained fat guy. He would shrink and start starving, as he struggles the chains loosen but he gives in and his hatred fades as the leader grows. then when he gets weak and loses hope the super dude reaches out a hand and the power surges through both men. The leader flies off and gathers workers. The chained guy now is chiseled and has the same uniform. Then he flies off, marshaling resources not for war but for a future worthy of our admiration

What's going on in Chile is this: the organized left has washed young people's brains to get mad at everything. And they're playing being revolutionary just to upload a selfie and say "oh look at me, Viva la revolución, give me my likes". I'm not saying the current system is perfect, but I don't think vandalizing churches and public property can be celebrated. The left got what they wanted: Chile will have a new Constitution and will go back to their worst days. To think Chile has been so far the most "first world" country of Latin America and now because of a bunch of brainwashed millennials it will go on full reverse... Disappointing. Argentina is way more screwed than Chile, but we don't see protests or vandalism there. Why? Because they just elected a lefty president, obviously.
@stonerdemon I get your point, things have evolved pretty rough in these weeks, and still continues... I too hope the solution isn’t a regression to a worse society. But right now I believe many people want to go back “normal” even though that will not happen... I don’t support all of the destruction, vandalism, death and injury from both sides and many problems concerning work and life for thousands of chileans. This song came to my mind the first days of all the protests because of the unreal feeling of going out in the street and facing all the chaos and people who don’t understand each other for whatever idea they have of the society they want to live in...and fight each other for it. Your concerns of a lefty takeover of the country may be kinda justified, of course they take advantage, but I think it will be more complicated than that and will eventually come as a major change in chilean society, for the better or for the worse. Only time will tell. Anyways, good luck to you too, I hope this situation doesn’t replicate to your country aswell, because it surely looks it can.
It's frustrating that we think it can't possibly get worse, then a few years pass and we're like hot damn I can't believe it's gotten EVEN MORE relevant like where does it end??
When I was a kid and I watched this video I would always be confused as to why the money sign was their logo... now I see what the world is and it’s depressing
@Shawn Not the nazis from the past, no. But they are just as oppressing. Too bad so many people fight each other, though, while the true evil (those beyond the politicians we see, with their "nice" lies) just continues to make us fight like this, keeping themselves completely safe with brainwashing.
@Shawn Original message? I'm not the one you were replying to. "Nazis of the present" is figuratively speaking, as these overlords are pretty much doing the same to their people as the Nazis did, shutting us down and locking us up, and making reasons we need to believe, otherwise we're criminals/extremists. Setting us up against each other by categorizing us (left vs right, black vs white, conservatives vs libs, LGBT vs non-LGBT, male vs female etc.) and making us fight each other with that view. But of course i'm conspiracy theorist, and conspiracy theories are automatically false, cuz of the name of the category "conspiracy theorist/theories", while we do whatever they want, and criticism will be punished, right? And we think we know a lot, but they hide so much, that we see changes of facts all the time, and people don't see it and fight each other over it, while most of us are supposed to be allies. I'm like "huh, now it's like that? " and later on "and now they say it's like that?!", but people walk with the herd of sheep, and fight in the name of their category, cuz that worked so well 10 years, 20 years and even centuries ago!
@Shawn C*nsoring it helps, as i'll understand what the words will be. And i just said that N*zis did that to the people, and that we get that against us nowadays, too. They just(not meaning to make it sounds less worse) did it way more xtremistic back then, but the behaviour is kind of the same.
He actually sounds a lot like phil collins with a little extra metal added in, and looks kinda like him too! Awesome cover as I've come to expect from Disturbed.

I'm a Genesis fan long before Disturbed and I love this cover from day one...Such a great song that very much deserved a heavier sound....that's all they did, very respectfully....It was homage to a hero...they seldom do covers..."sound of silence" was what? At least a decade later if not 2...cant be bothered to google it...its a long time for sure between covers...and the same result again...respectfully honoring a brilliant song that could benefit from, this time, some powerful vocals, whereas he didn't mess much with vocals for "land of confusion", It was mostly just instrumentally enhanced.
The only way to actually take control is to actually work together despite differences and not allow higher powers to divide everybody. I'm with heavy metal Jesus on this ❤

Land of Confusion expresses a timeless sentiment that resonates with a lot of the working class. No matter how bad it gets, no matter how tight the 1% squeezes, there's no killing the feeling art like this inspires. @The Other Point Of View I believe its supposed to symbolize greed of the government and war for profit not capitalism just my opinion. If it is capitalism it be hypocritical since all their money they made off it.
Should be a star of David.
Austin Blackburn
War for profit is a facet of corporate capitalism.

Description of the clip:
0:05 The Dark Messiah(also known as The Vengeful One) landing into the modern world.
(check: alliances during cold war years)
2:48 - 3:06 People beat up the soldiers of governments so cities and the world wonders are rewinding.

Being old enough to remember the original Genesis song in its prime, musically this new version hits as hard and tough as it did way back then. As for the politics, the message is still very relevant... unfortuntately. I must admit this is a brilliant cover!
@@KaneLowwind Genesis writing a song which Disturbed can perform as-is with 100% commitment. That says something pretty profound about the meaning of this song.

But I can see the fire's still alight

And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight

@@satinsguard Splitting hairs over irrelevance only blinds further what truly matters. The year in which this cover was released is not nearly as important as how the lyrics relate to America's current politicatal landscape. Phil Collins/Genesis released this song in 1986 during the Reagan administration & the final years of the Cold War. Yep they know not to mess with the original song too much so you can still easily hear the original song underneath the Disturbed "coating"
this song hits different in 2024 in an entirely badass way!!
The Guy isnt a hero, he is the equalizer.
I am just curious who did the art style and animation of this as this man knows what he's doing
I can honestly say I've never heard any other songs by Disturbed...and I wasn't expecting much from this one as I really liked the original...but they NAILED IT! The video was fantastic as well!!
Kim Lewis I couldn't agree more. If u can stay still and listen to this you got no soul. I'm practically bouncing on my seat head banging haha what a song!

Starchild3215 Toonami honestly seems like it is slowly dying/withering, despite everything. Less new shows, less movies, shorter block. It's saddening really, knowing that it's slowly fading again.
@stonerdemon
I get your point, things have evolved pretty rough in these weeks, and still continues...

At this time, it is relevant as ever, especially in Russia)
It's frustrating that we think it can't possibly get worse, then a few years pass and we're like hot damn I can't believe it's gotten EVEN MORE relevant like where does it end??
2022 would be more real :)
it will be relevant as long as capitalism rules the world
Who's here in 2024!?!
Me My brother!!
me too
Only those who matter
Begging for attention. Get a life
Yes
When I was a kid and I watched this video I would always be confused as to why the money sign was their logo... now I see what the world is and it’s depressing
Eat the rich.

Am I the only one who thinks the beast should have his own comics and be a proper superhero
**the guy
+RoryTheDiglett, he's the beast now, shhhh.
It'd be pretty freakin' awesome.
Gamesfan34260 lol
You're not the only one
He actually sounds a lot like phil collins with a little extra metal added in, and looks kinda like him too! Awesome cover as I've come to expect from Disturbed.
I didn't say writes like Phil, just his voice possess a similar quality. Phil is one of the greatest writers ever and Disturbed certainly doesn't come close :)
@@hh6427 except the song wasn't written by disturbed
It was written by metallica
I'm a Genesis fan long before Disturbed and I love this cover from day one...Such a great song that very much deserved a heavier sound....that's all they did, very respectfully....It was homage to a hero...they seldom do covers..."sound of silence" was what? At least a decade later if not 2...cant be bothered to google it...its a long time for sure between covers...and the same result again...respectfully honoring a brilliant song that could benefit from, this time, some powerful vocals, whereas he didn't mess much with vocals for "land of confusion", It was mostly just instrumentally enhanced.
Looks like Howie Mandel
The only way to actually take control is to actually work together despite differences and not allow higher powers to divide everybody. I'm with heavy metal Jesus on this ❤
My God! I grew up with the Genesis version and loved it! I never thought I could love this song and video more. Loving this new journey through Disturbed music.
When are we going to hear Disturbed perform the National Anthem at a huge sporting event? David would kill it!!
Just awesome
Jimi Hendrix isn't enough??
I just love the art style, it reminds me of Wolverine and the X-Men animated cartoon
I can see that ; also reminds me of "Heavy Metal"- both magazine AND 80s movie. The animation here is smoother, though.
Todd McFarland did the art sry if I misspelled name but he also did spawn comics.
Phillip Hilton ya this does remind me alot of spawn or even batman comics
Yugi-Jay 2000 reminds me a bit like Ben 10: Alien Force
with a touch of Todd Mcfarlane added to the mix.
It is X-Men evolution
