for all their similarities, this is one of the things that's different between Lelouch and Light: Lelouch *recognized* that his actions were morally questionable and even wrong (eg, "These hands of mine have been dirty for a long time", and "even my own conscious must be cast aside"), versus Light who always thought he was in the right. And then what does Lelouch do? goes fuck it I'll destroy it all!!
"Someone has to do it, so why not me? Even if it means sacrificing my own mind and soul, it's worth it. Because the world... It can't go on like this. Is there anyone out there other than me who'd be willing to eliminate the evil from the world? If I don't do it, then who will? That's just it: there's no one. But I can do it. In fact, it appears like I'm the only one who can... I'll be the one to change this world!" -Light

I view this scene as a turning point of Lelouche's character development. BigBoy JC The similarities are superficial, really. Light became consumed with his arrogance and god complex, while Lelouch was far more altruistic and guided by an actual comprehension of politics. Light got the keys to the kingdom when he found the Death Note-- Lelouch's power is far more limited in its scope.
+Jordanationalismtion I'd disagree that their similarities are superficial. They both committed "evil" deeds in the name of a greater good, and in my opinion that's a pretty big similarity. They're also both super intelligent, cunning, aloof, arrogant, the list goes on... but Lelouch probably has a bit more of a conscience, you're right.
Jatinder Gill Engaging in morally grey actions for the greater good doesn't exactly make them that similar-- one engaged in murder on an immense scale while elevating himself to godhood, while the other used strategy and diplomacy to even the odds in a war against an obscenely dominant military superpower. A hundred other characters in just as many series have done the same. Beyond superficial similarities-- intelligence, cunning, arrogance, a flare for the dramatic and being aloof just puts them on the same footing with a thousand other anime protagonists, antagonists and rivals-- they are entirely different characters. Admittedly I don't know Light as well, but from what I could see, he was a lot more... naked in how he enjoyed his power and manipulating others. Lelouch had his moments of sick pleasure, but he also reacted afterwards with disgust until he got used to it, and even then, he still kept a firm moral core. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason they get compared so much was because their shows came out at roughly the same time. I'd make the point that Lelouch has far more in common and takes pages from several Gundam characters, namely Char Aznable during his more... charitable moments and his character arc during Zeta-- aloof, yes, intelligent and driven, but also dealing with his own quest for vengeance and the struggle to be something more than just a killer, and facing up to the obligations foisted upon himself, or that he unknowingly embraced. Light Yagami leaped right into his role and never really shied away from it-- Lelouch constantly struggled with what he had to do, how he did it, and the unknown costs of his actions.

Holy shit! The trumpets that blast right when the timer hits 24:00:00 were excellently placed, and the score that follows only heightened my heart rate. Cornelia's terrified face as she watches massive structures crumble, destroying everything. This was the pinnacle of the show, and maybe of all of anime. It certainly beats any show I've seen as an American. Before you call me a weeb, I have a little anecdote. I avoided anime like the plague while growing up. I always thought it was too odd and cringey, especially when I hit high school and all my friends were begging me to watch it. I gave in my freshman year of college and decided to take my friends recommendation of Code Geass. This was a blessing and a curse. The blessing was that it showed me how absolutely beautiful, stunning, and emotional anime can be. The curse was it set the standard for how I watched all the anime I've seen subsequently. Especially when it comes to dubs, Code Geass reigns supreme. No single anime has beaten the genius and artistic masterpiece that is this show (FMAB comes close, tho). It hits you on all levels.
swaggazilla sam technically code geass is supposed to be in English Britannia which is supposed to be Britain is an English speaking country after conquering Japan they would have outlawed speaking Japanese
I think Lelouch is such a great character because he's not a proper villain but he's not a true hero either, he kinda swings back and forth as he needs to. Code Geass is an anime where the hero is very chaotic neutral.
In spite of Lelouch’s cold heart, i would support his character and actions, because you don’t go through what he went through and become light, and the casualties are always apart of war, and it is sad, but i like how Lelouch is a somewhat of a Batman metaphor, the hero they need, but not they one deserve, although I personally find that line confusing, the status quo should be broken and replaced with something better, and politicians today have betrayed the trust of the people they trust for their parties, allies, or disgusting abominable actions
If i'm correct there's other engVA that voice lelouch, but this guy did him justice. Including the laugh. Something something like a western kind of voice that fits lelouche best.
Edward Gil it was done out of love for his brother ;) But on some real shit I wanted to fuckin kill him myself at that time, but his soliloquy while the song was playing made me cry to much
Carl Johnson Meh. I still don't like him. When he died I was kinda disappointed that the writers for some reason were trying to make us feel bad for him. I already didn't like him that much because of his really weird obsession with Lelouch but when he killed Shirley I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy him at all. I mean come on, he even planned on killing Nunally.
Carl Johnson Why? Because she wanted to stop her brother? Because the man she idolized threw the world into chaos and let everyone think that he was evil? She was trying to make the world a better place. I'm sorry how can you root for Lelouch but not anyone else when they have the same goal. Only difference is that Lelouch started out with selfish intent and grew to actually care. Nunally, Suzaku, and Euphie all cared from the very beginning. And what does any of that matter? Rolo was gonna kill Nunally BEFORE she turned against Lelouch. When she was still innocent.

The voice acting in this is god tier. Golden age of anime series. Tho demonslayer dubs are doing just as good.
Damn, his IQ really beyond +200, you cant mess up with that guy.
0:24 SUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I got talked into watching this early last year. It's become one of my favorites, and this scene still gives me chills
1:17 There is a fate worse than death: Death while everyone hates you.
This. Is how you writing a compelling protagonist.
Lelouch got exactly what this voice is MVP.
It says quote "Kill or be killed"
You know, I always here that lelouch and light are kind of similar and I never understood that until now 😟
What do you mean ? I think the only thing they have in common is how cunning and simply mind blowing their plans are character wise not so much
BigBoy JC The similarities are superficial, really.
Unlike Light, Lelouch is still capable of compassion. As a result, I prefer him over Light
Lelouch is such a savage.
"Destruction always comes before creation"
The true villain the world deserved
Even after all these years this show still shines with scenes like these.
The voice actor is the same as Izaya Orihara
which is perfect
destruction always come before creation - lelouch
he'd be good friends with pein as they share the same philosophy lol
his dub actor did a damn good job
Zero: *Kills the love of his best friend's life*
Guards in the government building: "Jeeze if that's what happens to his friends, I'd hate to see what happens to his enemies"
*Timer zeros out*
PURGE PURGE PURGE PURGE PURGE PURGE
Alonsso Valencia JUST LET US PURGE.
PURGE PURGE PURGE PURGE
PURGED MORE THAN THE MOVIE
"NOW THEN!"
the marvelous plot, script, animation, soundtrack, and theme...
all possible when you join hands with the almighty pizza hut
Man really said he got these hands
Strange... I tried to watch this, but there's only soup...
What do you mean there's only soup?!
Mika Zuki That was a terrible use of that joke...
I said I'm in soup.
what do u mean you r in soup?
I said i'm in the soup store!
The end scene of the first season hits harder
i love the dubs laugh better then the subs :P
I'm pretty sure that's why I went with the dub. The sub laugh sounded a bit childish, and not nearly as menacing as the dub.
Jatinder Gill I like the deeper voice of the subs, for me the dub's too high pitched and sounds weird.
*****"Chocolate rain"
Lelouch: Now I'm become death, the destroyer of worlds
English dub blows subs outa water damn this scene is so great
swaggazilla sam not really
+Michael McGrath No need to be a dick.
And anyway, I agree with OP.
the laugh is really good, but as for the voice acting itself? nahh
swaggazilla sam technically code geass is supposed to be in English Britannia which is supposed to be Britain is an English speaking country after conquering Japan they would have outlawed speaking Japanese
+Rjm0007
From a technical standpoint, the dub definitely makes more sense, but I still think the sub voice acting itself was better, personally.
when this scene came i thought lelouch was going to die, but then when i saw the bridges fall down and get destroyed i was so dump founded
💀💀
haha this actually made me laugh, lelouch was kinda nuts in this scene, but still epic
his smile in the dub really astonishing !! XD
Someone's smile in the dub can differ from that in the sub?
*Smiles in English*
*Smiles in Japanese*
Krazytre the Assassin yep very ^^
Lelouch blurs the line between protagonist and antagonist
Code Geass dub is amazing
I think Lelouch is such a great character because he's not a proper villain but he's not a true hero either, he kinda swings back and forth as he needs to.
Code Geass is an anime where the hero is very chaotic neutral.
Oh my god, Johnny Yong Bouche just fucking kills it here.
after death note only code geass can do this to me😂
Watch Monster, Evangelion

Karla Trejo Stop it. Get some help.
Wonder what CC was thinking while hearing him laughing.
Oh great another maniacal laugher
In spite of Lelouch’s cold heart, i would support his character and actions, because you don’t go through what he went through and become light, and the casualties are always apart of war, and it is sad, but i like how Lelouch is a somewhat of a Batman metaphor, the hero they need, but not they one deserve, although I personally find that line confusing, the status quo should be broken and replaced with something better, and politicians today have betrayed the trust of the people they trust for their parties, allies, or disgusting abominable actions
Spoiler
2:38 that refers to end of r2 doesn't it?
I'm awesome i know.
you're a liar lelouch are just a anime at all and you won't be an anime forever
Delmar Billante wut?
+Lelouch vi Britannia nevermind
Lelouch, why did you have to kill Euphie? Surely you could have found another way...
Let me serve you
my king
If i'm correct there's other engVA that voice lelouch, but this guy did him justice. Including the laugh.
Something something like a western kind of voice that fits lelouche best.
What a crazy scene!
Damn, that was brutal.
We all talk about their conversation.
While I think about CC who all this time listening this act and then His laugh.
Her reaction:😑
I just like how he was the green ranger now hes the purple ranger
Man when Rolo died I fucking cried so much
I didn't. He killed Shirley.
Edward Gil
it was done out of love for his brother ;)
But on some real shit I wanted to fuckin kill him myself at that time, but his soliloquy while the song was playing made me cry to much
Carl Johnson Meh.
Edward Gil
Meh different view points bro, I started to dislike Nunally towards the end :/
Carl Johnson Why? Because she wanted to stop her brother? Because the man she idolized threw the world into chaos and let everyone think that he was evil?
She was trying to make the world a better place. I'm sorry how can you root for Lelouch but not anyone else when they have the same goal. Only difference is that Lelouch started out with selfish intent and grew to actually care. Nunally, Suzaku, and Euphie all cared from the very beginning.
And what does any of that matter? Rolo was gonna kill Nunally BEFORE she turned against Lelouch. When she was still innocent.
Revenge is the dish best served cold.
With a slice of pizza

Wow, the Dub is not as bad as i thinked, i'll re-watch the series for the third time but dubbed now.
I am currently wearing a sweater with the “these hands of mine” monologue on it
Find me another heroic anime protagonist who will say "Embrace your hate" specifically to his best friend who is coming to kill him.
