After 2 years of rotating the Hane into my quiver, I've come to love fishing with it! 🥰 However, at first it felt waayyyyy too tip heavy (think fully extended Ito or more - the balance point is midway up the third section from the bottom). Last year I even built a counterweight with a heavy bolt and washers to bring the balance to the top of the foam handle. Doing that definitely helped with setting the hook quickly! This year I've forgone the counterweight to lighten my pack and am still getting quick sets - maybe I just needed the crutch to help me learn the "feel" of the rod...
Nice of you to share your experience with the Hane. It always takes a bit to understand a rod's personality. We're happy the Hane is working out for you.
I love the Hane, not nearly as light an action as many of my other rods but it also handles larger fish with much more finesse. Id say if you were travelling and you weren't sure what size of fish you were expecting to land then this would be a great fit since it can easily handle 12-18" trout without much hassle. great review!
Great review dude! This is the rod that got me into tenkara and I take it with me on every backpacking trip. It’s so small and light I brought it on my thru hike of the Colorado trail and was able to catch a bunch of trout and barely feel the extra pack weight.
I had the original Hane which was developed in conjunction with BPL and it could have been used for pole vaulting. I tried the new version (a friends) and didn't see much of an improvement.
Ah, I remember that original Hane. Definitely an interesting rod. If I recall, it was advertised that it could double as an ultralight tent pole. This newer version is stiff (but a bit softer than the BPL model from 2009 as well as the white TUSA version 1.0 initially released at the 2017 Tenkara USA Summit).

We'd agree with your summary!

Appreciate it! It definitely packs down small!
I love my Hane' because of its size and robustness. It is my go to rod to carry on the motorcycle, and it fits easily in my sling pack.
The Hane seems to be the official rod of motorcycle anglers!
Great info and hands on next to the Iwana! Can't wait to see more of these rod reports. Which one will be next??
Plenty more to come...
@@tenkaraangler Yes!!
Mike, nice review.
Thanks Dave, much appreciated!
