The streets will never forget that 4 goals salvo against Liverpool at Anfield
I had a ticket to that game but had to work late instead. Gutted!
you got a point out of it
Arsenal couldnt beat liverpool at anfield like always despite arshavin's 4 goals🤣
@@prakashmainali9270 don't know what's so funny. Liverpool at Anfield is never easy
@@prakashmainali9270 how did Mumbai fc get on over the weekend?
Arshavin was a glitch in the system, thats how good he was. EA didn't know which is his stronger foot and you can notice on some fifas it is left on some it is right.
He had talent but was a lazy little shit, so I have no respect for him, he could have achieved whatever he wanted if only he had tried.
I loved Arshavin. People forget his loss of form was the brutal divorce he was going through.
a great player ... not an Arsenal failure by any means
The bar to be an arsenal success isn't high though
@@aight329 at that time it was
They bought him a bit too late in his career, needed to bag him around 23-24 years old.
They bought him literally as he crossed over the other side of the hill and was slowly on his way down.
Arsenal legend, even if for only a short time. When he was on his game he was unplayable. Such a shame it didn't last longer then 2 years once he came to Arsenal. And to the dude talking shit about the gooners, you obviously haven't been watching football for a long time. Even when we're bad we still win trophies. You're probably a Spurs fan lmao
@@aight329 are you nine years old
arshavin's 4 vs liverpool was the single best arsenal player performance against Liverpool I've ever seen. Little legend.
Goals and assists when playing in his favoured No. 10 position showed what a talent Arshavin was. Arshavin lost faith with Wenger when shunted out wide. Much of the criticism should go to Wenger, who bought Arshavin without planning how to combine him with Fabregas and Nasri who also wanted to play in the same position.
His goal against Barcelona probably in the top 3 goals in arsenal history
Very far from a failure, a fantastic player. To suggest that he didn’t fulfil his true potential is a matter of semantics. His is a success story as professional football player, no argument on that score, 😂, no pun intended.
Wenger should never shift him to the flanks.
He could've been much more, both on the club and national level. But he played on a very turbulent time period for both Arsenal and Russia. What a shame, but an absolute legend.
@@Constanza235 Totally agree, but in the context of the professional game his career was highly successful. The majority of pro footballers are or become "journey men" that's the reality of the professional game. It's a tough old environment. But one of the wonderful sides to the game of football is the camaraderie, it's special, even when you haven't seen an old team mate for decades, it's big hugs & smiles & great banter when you meet again. It is the Beautiful Game.
100 Million player nowadays at least.
Wenger sacrificed Arshawin for Chamak, Gervinho and few more players, that combined never got to Arshavins level, which is absolutely ridiculous mistake...
Can't digest the fact he preferred Chamak and Gervinho over Arshavin.
@@kiranp5611 Today it seems totally crazy. I guess back then it could make some sense but still...
i am a gooner and after henry we brought 1 crap forward after another, rvp always injured and as for adebayor the less said the better
@@slinkiegirl2001 adebayor was a good foward for us but had a terrible attitude, eduardo da silva was phenomenal until his horrific injury. Giroud was a good forward but unfortunately in the wrong system.
@@kakotokakoto2746 not even back then it made sense
When you said "surrounded by mediocrity" at 12:52 and showed Lord Bendtner... that hurts a lot!!! :D
that 4-4 match was absolutely crazy. damn those sweet memories
As a Liverpool fan, I've tried to forget that 4 goals at anfield.
why? that was an icredible peformance. I'm also a lfc fan and I'll never forget that game for the rest of my life
I didn't even know that he was that old when he moved to Arsenal, he looked young for his age
He had brilliant moments. A very intense private life as well. He is mentioned many times in Fernando Ricksen's (ex Zenith and unfortunately passed away already) biography. The booze and coke stories are on a Motley Crue level. Arshavin often wasnt able to train after heavy partying and sometimes showed up so drunk that he couldnt walk. Coach Advocaat did the impossible with Zenith during that time winning the Uefa Cup.
Keep making these man! You'll have a lot of subscribers. Amazing work. Would be great to see one about Recoba!
Thanks for the support! Recoba's on the list with plenty more!
I subscribed to your channel because of Trollfest23's comment. Keep up the good works. ✌🏿
I agree, Recoba please!
Impressive scope of research in this video. I remember a lot of these moments as an Arsenal fan but you did well to capture some very subtle moments of his time at Arsenal. You earned a subscriber.
Great channel but just a correction on one thing: The booing during his substitution vs Man United was NOT directed at Arshavin. Ox-Chamberlain had been the man of the match during that game and the crowd were showing their dissaproval of Wenger's decision. Even RVP was seen reacting in frustration as well towards Wenger in that incident. It had nothing to do with Arshavin.
Great video, glad I found it! Arshavin is my favourite player of all time - he was a magician on the pitch
Thanks man! Check out some others!
Always loved Arshavin.. Top player on his day.
One of the best midfielders for me! Shava is a hero!
I remember that Arshavin for Oxlade-Chamberlain substitution. I don’t think the fans had any issue with the introduction of Arshavin, but took exception to bringing Chamberlain off. He had comfortably been our best player that night. Why he was taken off is still a mystery, particularly as we went on to lose.
Arshavin was one of my favourites
Arshavin was underrated.
one of my fave players of all time. super entertaining. oso has a degree in fashion design
That performance in 2009 against Liverpool helped Man United so much and also that night against Holland in 2008. This guys was talented.
I got very excited at what to me was a new prospect in the football world when he single handedly destroyed a Dutch team that was the best team in Euro 2008 until that point.
Great video. Enjoyed that.
Great video. So well made!
A truly unique player who had already peaked before arriving in England (and was pretty good there too!)
great video
this channel deserves more and more and more views
Can you do Tomas Rosicky, maybe?
I remember for some time he was an FPL asset,i had him in my team so many times.
This was really well done.
I'm glad I found this channel! Great content and this was honestly a great video. I love how you cover players that other yohtubers don't. Could you please do a video on Tim cahill, Harry Kewell, Mark viduka or Mark schwarzer. I'm Australian and would love to see a video on some of our boys! Considering that football is a minority here their achievements are pretty awesome
Thanks for watching! I have a list that I gradually add to and I will put these on for sure.
@@theretroroute If you do Harry Kewell be sure to include the fact that he joined Liverpool under a mysterious cloud screwing Leeds out of money as they were entering administration, then as a final screw you joined a side whos fans killed two Leeds supporters.
Great video, keep it up 👍
I would add that between 2002 and 2008, Arshavin was absolutely dominating the Russian Premier League, even on crappy grounds in spring or fall, he wasn't getting caught.
His partnership with Kerzhakov who would also go on to play for Sevilla was something else.
kerzhakov 😢
Great channel m8
Really enjoying your content
he's 30 in 2010? damn what a beast
your presentation is amazing mate.
He was great for Arsenal and loved by the fans...
This is great content man. I just subscribed. Keep it up!
Great video.
I like the football history in this. What I don't understand is, how is this a "down fall" or a "fall from grace"? He rather did quite well as a world footballer!
Took me back to being a kid, number 23 on my back and my tongue out every time I scored. What a player!
I love him❤, he was definitely one of the finest I've ever seen❤❤
Really enjoyed the video man, fantastically produced and looking forward to more
One of my favourite Arsenal players. Can you please do a video for Rosicky or Santi Cazorla?
I will definitely add them to the list of future videos. Thanks for watching
I remember his display for arsenal at Liverpool, but then ?
I bet you do
one of the few russian footballers I have ever liked. I never knew what had happened to him. I mean, why he only had 1 great season for Arsenal (and the peak of his career in the 4-4 draw against L'pool). He's been very talented, too bad that he had fallen into obscurity...
Just subbed love this chanel
love the background music btw ;)
Good video.
I kinda want this kind of video about Diego Milito
Thanks. He’s on my list so look out for that soonish
Arshavin, Cesc, Nasri, Diaby, RVP ... another era.
Diaby in moment was a best CM in the world
As an Arsenal fan I have to agree with the final assessment i.e. Arshavin was a prodigiously gifted player but never likely to adapt to a league where physical endurance and self sacrifice are valued just as highly as individual moments of sublime skill. He was also a bit mental but in the most endearing way (unless you were a lady driver...)
Ashavin was one of the very technical players at the time, he was the type of player that would give his all for any team. Sadly Arsenal didn't try to keep him to continue playing for the Club, it would be nice if at that time Ashavin playing for Real Madrid, Barca, or MU would be really good.
a true Arsenal Legend
POV: u’re Arshavin and u come across this video 😶
Love the fact he made his professional debut against my team Bradford in the old inter toto cup. Proper pub quiz knowledge 😂
This guy casually makes some extremely bold statements and puts them across as if its fact.
I remember when he was plaiyng, had much higher tempo and abilities then other players
Big fan of Arshavin 😎
A fantastic player that came to the end of his career.
Andrey Arshavin, as an Arsenal fan, I love you.
i'm crying at the end
Nice content bro . Try to do Sebastian Giovinco ,
Great Shout!!! I'll add to the list. Make sure to watch more, subscribe and like.
@@theretroroute La formica atomica!
Could you cover James Wilson. He was up there with rashford at one point yet his career went down
Not a failure. Wenger failed many young players who had a lot of potential.
04:40 I swear, he HAS to be the long lost Russian nephew of Arséne Wenger! :D
He came as 28-29 year old to Arsenal FC. Age happen just like anyone else.
he was a forward that they turned into a winger, it was a bad call to have expected him to track back deep.
My G
Hello Sir, there seems be an error in your video. Why did you put Lord's picture when you said 'mediocrity'? Please rectify this.
nice man, keep it going, more inter players pls
Just did Adriano, make sure to check it out! Thanks for watching
@@theretroroute ofc i did mate, hes my favorite, pls Recoba or Zanetti
Recoba has been requested a few times so he is definitely coming soon…
Is the background music Dead Man by Neil Young ?
No just NO. This is solely a Wenger fail. He keept pushing him out of his field to make room for players that wasnt better than him in that position. Wenger set him up for failure. The same way the club set up Özil for failure. Our strikers apart from RvP was shit to be honest for a team that wanted to win the title. And blaming Arshavin for this is just freaking wrong. Wenger made some horrible transfers because he was cheap as fuck.
100% agreed
Top level strikers are usually the most expensive transfers.. Thats why other players always get forced into that & other positions
Blame the top at Arsenal, not Wenger. They refused to spend any money for top stars. Can't blame Wenger for that. His hands are tied.
@@adamh4h4 no that is not really true. Wenger had this view for a long long time that he didnt want to spend large amounts on players. And we have super rich owners that he just bend over for. And for him and the board getting top 4 was the only goal for every season. Never to win just to qualify for CL. And this started pretty much right after the unbeaten season.
Such a great channel. Surrounded by mediocrity (shows Bentner) made me laugh.
that's lord bendtner
Hail, hail
04:00 I was not expecting to hear a chill Nirvana-cover in the background of this video tbh.
You got it all wrong in the end. It wasn't so much that the fans were booing Arshavin for coming on. They were booing Wenger for substituting Oxlade Chamberlain who had a really good game and because he did it just so that we don't pay money to Southampton ( weird deal).
If he had enough age on his side, he'd have left arsenal for greener pastures after Wenger turned the club into mediocre. I don't buy the whole financial constant story. Wenger just didn't strike the right balance between building a team that's consistently competing and also building a stadium. Not saying it would be easy, but seeing the players Wenger brought in then, one could argue Wenger could've done better. If that team had slightly better players than we had then, and Wenger was also on his A-game, we could've won at least two EPL titles before Wenger left.
In all, I love Wenger but I can't help but be mad at him for his contribution to bringing this club to the level it is today.
Tbf man, well put. I hold the same sentiments myself towards Wenger. A great mind no doubt but extremely flawed as time went on
The ownership too didn’t make the best decisions
Macheda's would be an interesting story
Is Arshavin though not like so many other football players. They might have 5 brilliant years, and the rest is just so and so. I think for anybody doing any job, there comes a point where there is just not so much motivation left.
His initial years as could be seen by his brilliance at Euro 2008 were fueled by a desire for achieveing something bigger and better, but once that has been achieved, as is the case for so many players, they are just satisfied with what they have achieved and let their careers falter.
I wonder what this guy would've looked like at his peak in La Liga
Rise and fall of theo wallcot please
Wenger couldn't replace Pires and ended up putting #10s and #9s at the left wing hoping to replicate him.
well in an interview with Russian media he said that Barcelona offers Zenit a 15m transfer, and it's the dream club for him, but Zenit tries to make more and asked them for 25m. Barcelona rejected and Zenit signed an agreement with Arsenal for 22m. With Barca, he can win more trophies cuz they were at the pick.
HE ENDED UP A MILLIONAIRE, WHO COULD DO LOTS OF OTHER THINGS OUTSIDE HIS FOOTBALL CAREER, HE WAS A FANTASTIC TALENT, AND HIS NAME WILL LIVE ON, IF THATS A RISE AND FALL, GIVE ME THAT ANYDAY, THE ONLY FAILURE IN THIS SCENARIO, IS THE STUPID JOURNALIST WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A SAD ENDING.
it's sad football-wise bro
Hope he got into rehab
One of the greatest player that has done it in football filed
Miss these days of soccer….
the man has two celebrations
Can you bring the story of Shevchenko
One day
Can you do Kalusha Bwalya?
He could have shined for longer in North London had Wenger moved him back to his favourite position in the centre. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and aging Arshavin just couldn’t keep up…
Alex song!! Next
He is a MUCH better player than chamackh, denilson and Gervinho. Yes, he became quite lazy. However, there is no disputing that his ability is much higher than those three players. With all due respect to those players. A quality player. It's just a shame that it was short lived.
Arsenal are a mean club to him he even said if we lose it’s always my fault and then from that day on he just fell
Great player for the time he was at the club no complaints from me bar having my away shirt stolen from me, at least the fly emirates sponsor stayed on that kit.
holy shit. Arshavin was a captain on 1 match? Was his english that good?
Do Hristo Stoichkov please
He was a top player.
Wenger messed up this guys career. This moving his position to the left killed him. Arshavin is a number 10. Wenger forced him to be a winger.
