The reason Efin and Siggi look very similar is because in Iceland, a majority of people are descended from Vikings. It was actually two main vikings that started the island of Iceland, and they both looked the same. Because it’s so cold all the time, it’s not very common that someone will move there and so everyone on the island look the same. This also means that you could marry someone who is you cousin or sibling, but you wouldn’t be able to tell. I wanted to make this movie as realistic as I could, so I made them look the same. You can also see that with Efins parents. this is also why in the film ‘Eurovision Song Contest: the story of fire saga’ they often say “your sister” or “your brother” to Lars and Sigrit and lars replies back with “I don’t think we are siblings”. It’s because they don’t know. I hope this makes sense, maybe someone Icelandic could help explain it? I don’t know if my facts are untitled true as my mother told me this, and she isn’t Icelandic either.
