I’m so conflicted to watch these type of videos because I don’t want my opinion and expectation on a book to be influenced when I have yet to read it but also ... want to watch that new Emma video
@@shreya7214 I personally thought it was pretty good when I read it. My advice is to just try the book and if you're not liking it you don't have to finish it or you can just unhaul it when you're done with it. If you end up loving it, good!
The only thing that made 'You' creepy was the perspective. Having him talking to the reader was the best part. Bummer that she changed that for the sequel.
DarkestwingsReads yes! I told my husband about that. His commentary in the first book as if he was talking to the person he is stalking is what made it way creepier. The second book just wasn’t very good and was just cheesy.
I have heard so much about “You”, especially because of the TV show and I wasn’t sure if it was for me or not. I know it’s so polarizing but i loved hearing your thoughts about the sequel. Great video emma 🤗 Oh and I really enjoyed the format for this video! I’m here for it! Bc In reality, we all enjoy different things, and we are all entitled to have varying opinions regardless if they are stereotypically positive or negative 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow ok I loved Unwind! I think some of the critiques you had about it were almost products of the time, imo. Like when it came out, it wasn’t part of an overdone YA dystopia because dystopia hadn’t gone into full swing in YA yet. And since the political climate was so drastically different, reproductive rights weren’t at such of the forefront for being at risk, and thus weren’t a focus of the story so much as a background piece of info to justify the premise.
I screamed when Watching You showed up >.< I haven't read it yet but I have brought it, and I just love Lisa Jewell so my hopes are so high for it! Now I'm scared!
Caitlin HowDoISpellThis? I think because she expected there to be commentary to it, when it was a book made primarily to have readers question the whole society and process as a whole. As well as raise other questions.
Major props to you for showing genuine opinions on booktube. Your feelings and opinions are just as valid as those of the viewers who disagree and I'm tired of watching watered down reviews!!! We bringing this authentic energy into 2020 💪
The Unwind series was one of my favorite series ever, and I loved the books because they ask questions and then tell the reader to draw their own conclusions. So may say it's "straddling the line" but it's important not to tell young people what to think but question their already set beliefs. Today, I've noticed the trend in YA and in real life is to take a hard stance about what is right and what is wrong about modern society, which isn't really a great environment for critical thinking. Oh well, that's just my two cents!
I so agree. It had this super gray morality. The books get 1000% better as the go on. Once you start learning about cam and the black market and deep into the world building which is Neal Shustermans strong suit the books get way better. I absolutely adore this series.
I think this might be one of my favorite videos you've ever done. You're never afraid to give your honest opinion but you really drive it home in this video which I LOVE!!!
I KNEW Hidden Bodies would be on here haha. I DNF'd it. I had vehemently DETESTED this book. I was sooooo disappointed. It honestly feels like both books were written by two completely different authors. Like ....WHAT HAPPENED?! (Also, if I never hear to words 'cup of piss" again in my life My GOD it will be too soon!!
I feel attacked because i finished today the second season of YOU and loved it ,maybe even more than the first one. But at least i'm glad i didnt read the second book and only watched it😂 (i also feel like a fake bookworm)
I really commend the fact that you finished these books so you could write a thorough review. I used to drag myself and still try to finish bad books...but now , I can live with myself if I put it down and start another book...and it feels nice :)
You're the first novel reviewer I've watched that has mentioned Neil Shusterman! Everlost, plot wise, is probably still one of my favorite stories today. I'll have to read unwind and see if I agree with you. I remember trying to read a few Shusterman books after everlost, but just felt them lacking...
Thank you so much for reviewing Watching You! I got 175 pages or so in and this is the very first book I just couldn't finish it!!! It was a solid 2 out of 5 !
Just sending you some love to say I love your channel and I look forward to watching more in the new year!! Keep it up (if you want!) because I think you’re killing the game!! And a book I didn’t like: Not That Kind of Girl- Lena Dunham.
Noooo Save the Date!! But I understand your reasoning. I do love Morgan Matson though. My friends are raving about that one. As for my least favorites, I only have four but I did really dislike them: 1. The Night Circus 2. Gabi, A Girl in Pieces 3. A Problematic Paradox 4. What If It’s Us
*Is so excited to see a booktuber talking about Bad Blood by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.* *Realizes the title of this video.* I personally loved the whole series, but I definitely get your points.
Looooved the video & your honesty!!! 🤩 I hope 2020 is a better reading year for you, queen ❤️ (though I *will* be looking forward to a similar video at the end of next year too!! 😁)
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on The Lost Night by Andrea Bartz. Also, the Naturals(?) series sounds right up my alley as well, but now I don't know if I want to give it a try if Bad Blood was actually that disappointing.
I personally loved the book Unwind, especially about how society has just become so... immoral to just (spoiler to those who haven’t read it) parents signing away the life of their own kid(s) to be used as spare body parts. And how society had accepted it and even gains money from it.
The worst kind of books are the o es that feel all over the place bc there’s too many characters and they all have separate storylines, it’s so annoying
This was very interesting, Unwind by Neal Shusterman was one of my favorite book series when I was a teen, and I was looking to reread it again as an adult.
Totally agree about The Golden Tower! Holly Black and Cassandra Clare are some of my absolute favorite authors but I just couldn't "buy" the characters or plot by the last book. It had so much potential!
I had a Lisa Jewell book on my worst of 2019 as well for very similar reasons. I can't remember if it was stated outright, or if it was just very very heavily implied, but basically you get the identity of the killer like 3 chapters in :/ It made every other "big reveal" feel really insignificant, and you basically just spend the next like 300 pages waiting for the MC (who I found super unlikeable) to get caught up to speed.
i think my worst book of the year was Lock Every Door by Riley Sager. he's like the M Night Shaymalan of books, where his endings have the stupidest twists. that being said, i'm still going to read his new book next year because i am trash.
I also freaking hated Hidden Bodies. I made it through 200 pages and had to put that shit down. I just found out that Caroline Kepnes is writing a 3rd and 4th book for Joe! I was shook
I feel like Caroline Kepnes's writing is really nuanced and I loved every second of Hidden Bodies 😂 my worst read of the year was Again But Better. I love Christine but the writing was terrible.
I also read ABB and when I tell you I STRUGGLED with this book yikes 😬😬😬 I did give it 3 stars but I wasn’t exactly happy about my review. The ending was what made me give it 3 stars tbh.
As someone who loves Jennifer Lynn Barnes writing, seeing Bad Blood on this list kinda hurt. And I'd argue the point about those connections, that having difficult childhoods because of those connections, is why these characters are Naturals. Parts of these were also set up from the very beginning with Cassie's mom. And we knew brief stretches of others, they just were one offs until they were important for this book. I can see how you didn't like it, but I've loved it both times I've read it.
I actually enjoy it when you don't like books by your favorite authors because it still shows that your honest even though I had no doubts but love causes blindness.
I would love to hear your ideas about the whole "incest" thing that was going on in the Shadowhunter series which I want to start but I am scared to...Is it worth it?
Eveything you said about Hidden Bodies is so true. One of the worst books I've read. The killings made no sense. Sadly, there's a third books in the series.
One million percent agree with Hidden Bodies. OMG. I had so much hope for it. Another huge dislike read that I actually DNF'd was Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and then also and The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young. So, so, so disappointed.
My least favorite reads of 2019 were: Melissa Explains It All by Melissa Joan Hart (turns out Sabrina the teenage witch is ALL ego) The Golden Child by Claire Adam The Queen of Hearts by Kimmery Martin and I Know Who You Are by Alice Feeney. I felt dumber after reading all of them.
i 1000% agree about 99 Percent Mine! It was ridiculously horrible. And I looooove Sally Thorne's debut, The Hating Game, so I legitimately couldn't believe these two books were written by the same person. It was crazy.
Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell. Just why. It's total filler, the characters are regressed to shadows of who they were in the first book, and Simon and Baz's relationship is toxic to the point of being abusive. It taught us some really cool things about the magic system, but that was its one redeeming factor.

@@shreya7214 I personally thought it was pretty good when I read it. My advice is to just try the book and if you're not liking it you don't have to finish it or you can just unhaul it when you're done with it.

Why does her dissing books make me want to read them
When I say I sprinted here...
Pretty fun not recognizing any of the names on the list cause I have no way to agree or disagree with how bad they might be
i couldnt STAND 99 percent mine, but sally thorne's other novel "the hating game" was absolutely amazing
Agreed! I DNF’d 99 Percent Mine, but loved The Hating Game.
I don't even read romance as a rule but The Hating Game was brilliant!
I rcvd The Hating Game for Christmas, but I can't wait for a movie cover. Love Lucy Hale and don't like the American 'cartoony' cover! 📚👸🏻💖
I’m actually scared about reading The hating game cause 99 percent mine was such a waste of time
aryam88 ikk i felt the same but the hating game was 10000% worth it
