      I'm 61 and grew up on a small dairy farm and I joined the Navy Seabees as a heavy equipment Operator and got to run many things . And I carried that experience out into the real world and operated some cool things. I remember they were paving a road in Upstate NY and the dump trucks would go by and most were the offset cab Mack's and I would sit for hours giving them the hand movement for them to blow the horn.

      I'm 67 as well and I used to watch them building the motorways in the UK in the 70's, once I had to drive my 955k through a bunch of them dumping material in our quarry, it was like going through Jurasic park !

    As with any new machine, it's all nice when it's new. Our 57k being a prototype has many design flaws. Hyd tank, hyd tubes, simple brackets and sensors, sensors and sensors. It will eventually be redesigned and fixed by CAT but the engineers have a long way to go before they achieve the reliability of the E's and B's. From experience, the worst part of the K's is having to add DEF.

    Fair do’s to Dave Collins for having the balls to buy brand new top spec motor scrapers in the UK 🇬🇧 when everybody else have got rid of them for dump truck/excavator combo. I have had the privilege to move one and they are a world away from the 637E’s in operator comfort.
    I believe the last big order for motor scrapers was Chepstow plant 10 years ago for 4 657G’s at Drax power station..

    Nice. Have these been purchased for London to Birmingham HS2 railway line earthmoving work? Its so rare to see motorscrapers in the UK being used now. The only time I have seen them used in the last 20 years were for digging reservoirs in London clay and some road projects where new cuttings were needed and a new raised bank was also needed nearby. Most were near museum pieces as well.

    That’s all fun and games until you meet a rock and it doesn’t have to be a big one. If this in Ireland, scrapers have limited use, the ground is either too rocky, too wet, too hilly or most likely all three together.

    • @AwesomeEarthmovers
      @AwesomeEarthmovers  3 года назад +2

      You’re correct. Scrapers need good and consistent ground conditions to work well. This one is for use in the south of England where it’s mostly boulder free. They wouldn’t be much use in the majority of Ireland.

    • @georgealmeida7382
      @georgealmeida7382 3 года назад +2

      Thats why we have crawlers ripping for the scrapers and also pushing them to fill the scraper faster to move the bulk of the marerial

    personally I thinks that tracked vehicles are better at landscaping and ground clearing job because they are more stable ,do not get stuck and do more precision type work than typical wheeled one

    • @mikeznel6048
      @mikeznel6048 3 года назад +1

      No tracked equipment gets stuck. Large construction/agriculture tires do just as well as tracks. Tracks have their place just as tires have their place. The track setup for a machine like this would be overly large and heavy and limit the machine. Tracks tear up the ground while turning where as wheels don't. As far as precise, tires or tracks don't play a roll in precision and in the case of a scraper, the machine is designed to move alot of material in a short amount of time. They aren't precision grading machines but in the same breathe, they are very accurate at cutting and dumping to dig down and build up grade. When a good operator is at the controls, they are very precise.

    • @viseshseernam39
      @viseshseernam39 3 года назад

      @@mikeznel6048 not all tracked vehicles leave mark on the ground engineer have come with the concept LGP meaning low ground pressure where precision is concerned tracked loaders or dozers are mostly used clearing ground jobs that i have observed

      Give the operator a break. He's on a brand new machine and is probably still working out all of the wrinkles. Also, the reason he isn't filling the bowl to overflowing is because the area he using to borrow material from is too short to get a full bowl. This is, after all, just what it looks like - a demonstration.
