It's still weird knowing Dan has Aspergers. For someone who has a fundamental lack of social grace and empathy, he sure does feel audiences and inspire joy in so many people. It has to be a mild case if anything, but I feel really bad for him when thinking about John. They really were brothers, and knowing how much we potentially missed out on by Johns accident is just as saddening to us as it is to Dan.. Ghostbusters turned out amazing anyways, and like Dan said, they got to do the big one: The Blue Brothers. And that I'm sure we're ALL thankful for.

I think Aspergers, OCD and ADHD get bandied about way too much to describe traits which are peculiar in certain people. A diagnosis is a diagnosis, I guess (even when it’s misdiagnosed), but I remember my Psych prof’s advice that it’s not an illness unless it hampers your life.

    • @nolimit6377

Autist here: autism isn't a "fundamental lack of empathy"; I have had too many social situations in which I've been astounded by other people's lack of empathy for that to be close to the absolute truth. And from what I've gleaned of Mr Aykroyd, he certainly seems far from bereft of empathy.

Glenn Marshall It can't be understated. John just exuded something so real and special. Words like gifted and talent don't come close to what John had. His energy just permeated into audiences and friends I'm sure, without even a word. We could just feel him. I hate being pseudo spiritual about it, but that's the only way I can describe it. He had the gift. Its what separates a professional from the talented. What he had can't be learned.

Seeing this old news footage on Belushi's death reminded me of something. The made for TV movie, of behind the scenes of "Mork and Mindy" showed how Robin Williams and John Belushi both did drugs. Belushi's drug-caused death had such an impact on Robin Williams, that it seemed that he was done with drugs, and simply concluded that it was crap.
The last scene of the movie showed when "Mork and Mindy" was cancelled for low ratings. A guy, who was obviously one of Robin William's dealers, leads him to a more secluded area of the studio/stages, with a platter, with what I assume was heroin (or whatever drug it was), and asks him, "Robin... Do you want this?"
Robin Williams looks down at the drugs, and nodded blatantly, with a solemn "Yes."
He then looked dead at the dealer, turned around, and walked away.
    DAMN that was SO DEEP!!!
I'm bipolar, as I have been told Robin Williams was, so I know that emotional roller coaster, can drain the sanity out of you, and break you to the point where you no longer see a reason to care.
Now, Robin Williams is gone too.
    That sucks...

It's interesting, the connections we make when someone we love dies. Dan's equating of a snowfall with John's appetite for 'the powders' of coke & heroin can be dismissed, or ridiculed, if you're callous. All that matters in those situations is the significance for you. It may appear to the dispassionate observer as nothing, but would you take it from someone?

It's sad, but without John's death, Dan would not have had the movie to catapult him into superstardom.

We're going to get a similar situation if Josh Peck buys the farm before he's 50. And Drake Bell is going to take it far less gracefully than Dan. Fortunately, Drake is more the flight-risk in terms of mortality, and Josh probably wouldn't care much if Drake passed at this point. Makes you think, how would John have taken it if the positions were reversed, if Danny died young and left him?

John Belushi was so talented. He had a huge heart ...however, Only a close relationship with Christ (according to the God’s word) will be saved - those who admit their sins and depend on Christ daily and turn from their sins will inherit heaven. It’s a hard pill to swallow as we are all sinners, but those who choose to be saved by the blood of Christ will inherit the kingdom. Luckily for all of us still living we can make a choice now before it’s too late. The Bible says the road to heaven is narrow - only a few will make it. Hopefully John followed Christ.

Dan was expecting this news as he had seen how bad he had gotten, and knew he'd gotten a cash advance for agreeing to be in "The Joy of Sex" which he didn't want to do, and Dan told him not to, that it was trash.
