I remember my dad telling me so, and there's a Nigerian movie called Lionheart because the family in the movie have the name Obiagu. So maybe it means leopard as well as lion?
Agụ in the literal sense and meaning doesn't mean Lion. It just happened that over time, the reference to Lion as Agu makes sense as the Lion is seen as the King of the Jungle. Lion was rarely ever seen in ancient Igboland but Leopard was. If you look at old Nollywood movies, you will see that the Palace and royalties are clothed with the Leopard prints to show bravery.
