This is when rugby was rugby. Sadly it will never reach the peak and ferocity it was during this time.
Great players, great spirits, great team songs!

I remember this game clearly. A fantastic day and great spectacle. NZ provincal rugby at its BEST. Hard men smashing each other up front with skillful backs tap dancing out wide. Man I wish rugby was still played like this.

Nothing will ever compare to that otago side my God they had a stacked side and provincial rugby was taken so much more serious back in the 90s compared to now... Oh and congrats otago on again beating Waikato on the weekend and securing the log O wood for the summer awesome result

I was there on the terraces that day to witness a great Otago win. It was an unusually warm day for Dunners. Atmosphere was electric.

I was at this game and it was so freaking awesome! The "We won the final!" chant was started by my uncle and I remember some guy afterwards yelling at the top of his lungs "Boohoo Mooloo, Otago screwed you!' Best day/night of my life!

Otago had great players to choose from in the 90s. People used to sit at Otagos tryline for the 1st half then move to the other end of the field at halftime. Thats how dominant Otago were at home.

Kronfeld was immense in this game. We had a solid and well drilled forward pack, a brilliant halfback and backs that could run it. Otago was great at this time.

It was the best Otago side ever back when Otago actually produced all blacks (9 all blacks and 3 future scottish caps) . Hiding a rotten core , the rugby union was going broke and financing said players well beyond their means.

For no money because provincial rugby was still amatuer.
