    You have such an ellegant, professional, intelligent and accurate way of expressing yourself dear Evita. It is a great joy to listen to your videos. You seem to have thought of every little detail and present everything wonderfully. :-) This refers to all your videos but also especially your recipe ones :-)
    Doc McDougall at his best again. I love his way of telling how things are. :-) I also have his book "The starch solution". It has become my bible in the past 2 years, while conquering rheumatoid arthritis. ruclips.net/video/fG8zQvoXlhA/видео.html

    At 6 feet tall and 215 pounds I had arthritis, was tired all the time and miserable. September 2019 I started the McDougall diet. At 166 pounds i stopped losing weight. Arthritis is gone I have a lot more energy and feel amazing! No more blood sugar and caffeine roller coaster! I eat all I want of the right foods and weigh about 170 pounds. Dr. McDougall saved my life! I had asthma and almost died from it. This new lifestyle is for me! Thanks John and Mary!!

    I have lost almost 60 pounds in 4 months (with exercise ; walking 6 miles a day, 5 days a week) by following Dr. McDougall and Dr. Barnard's teachings and diets. My beard is now growing like wild fire . I had tried to grow a beard without success since 2016 when I was an avid consumer of all kinds of animal products. I've never felt this good in my life before .

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  9 лет назад +4

      +Dee Zee I always try to feature guests who have a strong alignment to my own work, and whose work can show people a similar, yet alternate angle that they can take with regards to the Healthytarian approach. Though no two paths are identical in their beliefs or ideas. That is what adds the positive, yet often challenging, side of diversity in this world. So as I do in my professional and personal life, I always encourage people to listen with an open mind to another, and simply take only that which resonates with us personally, and leave behind that which doesn't. Form your own foundation of truth.
      So with regards to GMOs, I am personally a strong proponent of organic food, or food that is naturally grown and non-GMO. From my research and perspective, there is simply too much risk and harm, not just to our health, but that of our environment, as well as the people who have to work with GMOs, for us to consider growing or eating GMOs. In order to thrive today, we need to be smart about our food choices in light of modern challenges, so it is not just about what food we will eat, but what the quality of that food will be as well that matters.

The less fat you consume, the faster you will burn body fat. When you notice that the weight is dropping too fast, you can increase the intake of fatty foods. Hope this helps 😉

      I too have done Atkins many times to drop a quick ten pounds. It does work very well to switch your body into ketosis and use your own fat to fuel your body. However, I too felt awful and my heart would hurt often. I never got checked by a doctor but I knew my arteries were clogging. Atkins works but is not a sustainable lifestyle. I am currently 19 days vegan and feel amazing. No chest pains and tons of energy!!

    I want to share a story. My health got to the point where I couldn't keep any food down and I was really worried. I was malnourished. Then I went on the potato monocleanse diet. Just white potatoes. And I started to keep all the potatoes down and get my energy and health back. I'm a big believer in potatoes and rice. it's just so nice to be validated in this way because so many voices in the health movements say that potatoes and rice are bad but I have found them to be the best things for my body. I needed this validation to feel peace about what's best for me.

      Hedvig Borgen You are so very welcome! As for why we evolved as we did....ah, yes, unfortunately there are a lot of theories that people pass around or cling onto that are actually not valid. What we hear sometimes in a news story or some media outlet or even a study may be presenting only one set of facts, or simply presenting one side of the story, and then there is the fact that there is so much we do not understand yet about early people's or how evolution really progressed. Meat may have helped humans survive, but today unfortunately the way we are eating it and the quality of it, is destroying the quality of our health and our lives, not to mention our planet. As for intelligence and evolution, that is a whole other topic...

    After listening to this entire video. Here’s my thoughts. First Dr. M kept clearing his throat, throughout,much like a smoker. I hope not but this is what I observed. Next, I am 77, many years in the medical field, follow the Keto lifestyle, find I am healthier today than in the past 30 years. I am 4 ft. 11 inches and 97/100 lbs. I will keep searching and may try for 7 days his plan, all these yrs later to see what changes.I NEVER do Facebook, Twitter and such!!!! He too is selling something! I would bet on this! Thanks for sharing. Oh, I hope he’s still on in 2022. I shall see.

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching, Jeannie, and for sharing your thoughts.
      Regarding Dr. McDougall's throat clearing. That is not something that is unique to smokers but really to anyone today who lives in a high pollution area. The formation of mucus that the body wants to excrete through the nose or throat is just the body's self-cleaning mechanism. So it is impossible to conclude what the reason for a person clearing their throat may be unless you know their health history and lifestyle factors.
      Please keep in mind that if you are going to try any "diet plan" or drastically different way of eating, you need to give your body time to adjust to accurately assess the results. 7 days is not enough to fully understand the impacts of a new diet or way of eating and drawing conclusions are only 7 days can lead to many false perceptions. In general, 6 to 8 weeks is what the body needs to fully reflect all of the internal and external changes that a different diet will produce.
      Best wishes with your health!

    I started eating potatoes to lose weight, I weighed 185 lbs. After 3 months eating a mostly potato diet I weighed 140 lbs, that's a 25% weight loss. I'm still eating whole potatoes ( skin and all ) with every meal and I have not had the shits since I started eating potatoes, not once !.. I used to have a probe shoved up my arse and polyps removed from my intestines on a regular basis, but since I started eating the starch based diet the "FIT " tests results have come back as normal.
    My health has improved no end, I am fit and slim. BEST OF ALL IT"S SO EASY.
    PS, I'm not a vegan.

    I'm not all the way through the interview (which is fantastic, by the way) so it still may come up; but one thing that I do believe needs to be considered is Glyphosate (round-up). If one is going to start eating a lot of starch we need to be aware to avoid glyphosate. So much of our wheat is literally SATURATED with it. They use it to dry the wheat before they harvest it. I've heard many stories of people who can't eat wheat in the US but they go to Italy and eat pasta and they're fine. Italy isn't dousing everything with Glyphosate.

      Most definitely. This is a serious issue and is nothing short of a tragedy what has been done to our food system, and how it impacts our health and environment. The more you can find organic or "safe" sources of food that you know you can trust, the better as it lowers the toxicity inside your body, which is a common cause of many illnesses.

    When Jesus taught people to pray he mentioned starch:
    "So then, this is how you should pray:
    ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily BREAD" Matt 6:9-11
    Jesus uses starch to symbolize Himself:
    Jesus said to them, “I am the BREAD of life; whoever comes to me shall NOT HUNGER, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." John 6:35
    And in the Old Testament when the Isreaites were in the wilderness with nothing to eat, what food did God Himself choose to sustain them for 40 years?
    "Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Behold, I will rain BREAD from heaven for you; Ex 16:4

      @Healthytarian  8 лет назад +6

      +Thomas Marabella It all depends on what you are eating. If the starches are refined carbohydrates, and/or if the diet lacks fruits and vegetables, or still has a high amount of animal products, it is not going to go very far.

  • @p0p4
    @p0p4 4 года назад +1

    So I should eat mostly starch, vegetables and fruit, and meat and animal products a few times a week? The body should be used to infrequent animal product consumption if it’s always been there to some amount, right? So just not eat it in excess?

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  4 года назад +1

      The research for the most healing and prevention shows that no animal products are the most ideal way to go. *Just because our body can digest something does not mean that those items are good for it.* All animal products cause inflammation, toxicity, and acidity - some are just worse than others. Humans have depended on them in the past as a matter of survival and today overindulgence in these products has created the modern lifestyle diseases and weight problems that we have.
      So how much of any animal products that you choose to include is up to you and will depend on your readiness and health priorities. However, for the highest health benefits and lowest disease risk and weight problems, not eating any animal products is the answer.
      Diest made of whole plant foods, namely fruits, vegetables, legumes/beans, grains, and nuts/seeds are the way to go.
      If you wish to learn more about this, aside from Dr. McDougall's work, Dr. Michael Greger provides and explains all of the science behind it: nutritionfacts.org/

    • @p0p4
      @p0p4 4 года назад

      @@Healthytarian OK, thanks! I just thought that humans might have adapted to some of it, like the people further north tolerate milk far better than other people. If I understood it correctly the only reliable source of B12 in nature is from animal products, so it would make sense evolutionary that the thing that you need wouldn't kill you. Then again I don't know how much animal product is needed for that. Or how many animals people actually ate some tens of thousands of years ago. Great video BTW!

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  4 года назад +2

      @@p0p4 Thanks so much for the feedback about the video! The key is *not to mistaken or confuse the ability to digest something with it being good for us.* We are able to digest many things that are not good for us. Think of all of the processed and refined foods that humans have adapted to eat, most of which are extremely unhealthy for us.
      As for vitamin B12, its original and natural source is from bacteria in the environment, found in soil, water, and on all-natural food. The animals eat right from the Earth and receive this bacteria most naturally. Then people eat the animals and think they are getting the B12 from the animals, but the animals are a secondary source - "the middle man" so to speak.
      Unfortunately, it is very hard for most humans to eat naturally, right from the Earth today, given our excessive and extreme sanitization practices and unnatural food practices, hence in the modern world a B12 supplement is the wisest thing. Because it would make no sense to eat the animal food for the B12 just to get one benefit, while at the same time getting numerous harmful effects on our health.

    I'm trying to find somewhere on the internet the statement or the policy of the American Cancer society that he mentions which refers to a plant-based diet or a starch-based diet being recommended. Is there a link to that somewhere? I'd like to see that and refer to it and be able to tell others about it.

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  4 года назад +1

      The ACS has many online references to the benefits and recommendations of eating whole plant foods, especially fruits and vegetables. The whole basis for the most cancer-healthy diet is plant-based, and this is a fundamental fact shared by all healthcare professionals and medical institutions. No one in their right mind is going to tell their patients to eat more animal foods to prevent or heal cancer. Unfortunately, many organizations, including the ACS are funded by various animal food industries and processed food industries, so they are never going to use language as strong as is needed to make people understand that only whole plant foods and no animal foods are the way to go. Watch the film "Hungry for Change" and "Cowspiracy" on Netflix to understand this better and see how these organizations are not trustworthy or good sources for the best health and nutrition info, and why.
      Either way, the present stance of the ACS is as follows "Eat a healthy diet, with an emphasis on plant foods." See here, just scroll down past the physical activity content: www.cancer.org/healthy/eat-healthy-get-active/acs-guidelines-nutrition-physical-activity-cancer-prevention/guidelines.html
      Also, scroll through this Q&A from the ACS, which further address various whole plant foods, animal foods, and plant diets, and how they influence cancer risk and healing: www.cancer.org/healthy/eat-healthy-get-active/acs-guidelines-nutrition-physical-activity-cancer-prevention/common-questions.html

    Dr. McDougall emphasizes on all his records that we have to avoid animal products and vegetable oil. I am totally confuse with the oil. Does that mean we have to cook without any oil or there are some oils we could use for cooking and salad dressing. I appreciate if you would explain more.

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  8 лет назад +2

      Correct, it means to cook without any oil. All oil is an extract of the whole food, which means that we are missing vital nutrients and helpful parts of the whole food, and getting things that are not only out of balance (i.e. pure fat) but a compound that is overall unstable. Most oil, aside from coconut oil, is made of unsaturated fats in various poly and mono ratios. Unsaturated fat is very sensitive to heat, light and oxygen, which means it can oxidize and go rancid and create free radicals that cause us harm and inflammation very easily. This, in addition to the unnatural substance that it is (does not naturally exist in nature) and high caloric value equates to health problems. This is why many oils are refined, which is the worst of the worst where oils go, and if we look at unrefined extra virgin olive oil for example, which many consider "the healthy oil", no one who understands what I just shared above ever recommends cooking with it, as not only does it degrade any nutritional potential it had within minutes, but it also creates harmful compounds, like all oils which are heated. The higher the temperature and the longer the cooking time, the more destructive the oil becomes.
      So for practical points, both concepts: cooking with oil and salad dressings based on oil are completely culturally driven, and for the most part quite a modern fad. It is actually very easy to cook without oil. Most plant foods create their own juices, while others only require a thin layer of water. As for salads, the best dressings are simple lemon juice squeezed in alone with some favorite herbs and spices. For more tips on amazing salads without oil, please see my 5-step to amazing salads video here on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/H3_ZQnKLADU/видео.html
      Ultimately, the more we step out of the mainstream conditioning when it comes to food (and most other things) the more we start doing what is actually best for us on a mind, body and spirit level, rather than what sabotages our health and wellbeing.

    Of the 3 which is the worst: meats, diary or oils?

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  3 года назад +1

      That is a tough one because all three are not good for the human body and carry their own risks. The worst would be a choice between the meat and dairy (not oil) because they have much more risks that impact the whole body in negative ways, whereas oil's negative risks are much more narrowly focused. Meat and dairy negatively impact literally all parts of the body and organs, raising risks of ALL diseases.
      The right thing is not to choose between them and think that you would be doing something good, but the right thing is to minimize or avoid the use of ALL of such foods in one's diet if health is your priority.

    So what to do with glycemic of the carbohydrates? A diabetic person would have his sugar high with such carbohydrates intake

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  Год назад

      The Glycemic Index is an outdated and highly flawed tool due to the fact that it considers foods only in isolation, when in practice most people mix several foods together as part of a meal, which changes the way the food is digested and the sugars are utilized. It is a tool based on reductionism that favors the parts over the whole. And that is just not how life, our food, or our body works. Nothing is in isolation, everything is interconnected.
      Also, it has other problems in how it rates and assesses the value of a food. It rates many junk foods as better from a GI view than healthy and wholesome foods. This should be a red flag to anyone looking at this tool right away.
      Finally, diabetes type 2 is a highly reversible and healable condition created from bad eating habits to begin with. Diabetes won't be cured by eating based on GI, but it can be when we change our diet to match what is ideal for the human body.

    So, I'm trying to understand here.... the McDougall starch based diet is perfectly fine for a diabetic? That diabetic insulin response is really 'fueled' by animal products and oils? As a diabetic, if I take out all animal products and added oils my blood sugars will return to normal after the initial insulin response to starches?

    • @Healthytarian
      @Healthytarian  2 года назад +1

      Hi Mary. If you would like to learn more about the insulin response to different foods, please look into Dr. McDougall's work in more depth. The mechanism of high fat foods, such as animal foods, causing insulin reistance and other problems is not something unique that Dr. McDougall supports but is a known medical fact today. The problem is that there are 2 ways of understanding diabetes and most conventional doctors and organizations in our society still cling to the old paradigm of "carbs being bad for diabetes" when the truth is quite different.
      On the contrary, whole food, plant-based diets have been repeatedly shown to heal and reverse metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and diabetes. There are numerous resources where you can learn more about this and make the best choices for your health.
      I recommend starting with the film "Forks Over Knives" if you have not seen it yet, and their website provides an excellent wealth of information on this: www.forksoverknives.com/
