My mother used to listen to all his albums...she thought he was one of the most beautiful male voices of his time...Listening now I understand why she felt that way. He sung with such empathy and style. Miss the real country sound.
All these great country stars had their own unique sound that was instantly recognizable. And today? You can't tell one from the other. Leave the radio on any "New Country" station and it all sounds the same, song after song. It's really sad. The true country western music is long gone. Thank God for records and videos so we can can still listen to REAL country music...
I remember listening to Jim Reeves so much as I grew up. My dad played steel guitar in a country band. Jim was one of their favorites. Now, every time I hear Jim's songs, I get teary eyed. I love his music. I miss my dad more than you can imagine! God bless them both.
I was ten in '54 and my mother had just become librarian at the high school right across the street from us after teaching in the classroom for 30 years. One night at the gymnasium, I got chosen to play the records for the sock-hop on a little portable record player with a mic in front of it. This record was requested over and over and I can still see the couples slow dancing to it. I've loved it ever since! I know you have wonderful memories, too!
In 1962, age 10, I first heard Jim Reeves on my Uncle John Gough's stereo player. I was mesmerized and could not get enough of that voice. How could anyone sing as beautiful as Jim Reeves. Later, I realized this voice was a one of a kind voice that could only come from God. That was 58 years ago. I've listened to other good voices BUT there is no other God given voices like the voice God gave to Jim. JIm has been gone for 56 years and still, to this day, there is no other voice like Jim Reeves. I've watched each new generation after his death discover his voice and heard the wonderment concerning the beauty of that voice. There was and is only Jim Reeves. Glenn
I was 24, dancing with my late husband before he left for WestPac in 1969. We loved Reeves! Just think. When I finish with this world I will dance again with my Marine to this music! :-)
My brother still sings the old authentic C&W. Way back when, he and his band did a USO tour in Vietnam. The guys, and gals, he sang to loved them. And I, today, still love to hear him sing. His band sang in a place in Columbus, OH call "The Little Nashville". Every once in a while, after a big C&W star would finish their performance, one of the band members from whatever show it was would come by, wait respectfully until he finished singing, and ask to play backup for him. He always said "yes".
My father was a french creole man you absolutely loved Jim Reeves. My father died last Monday and the funeral was today. This morning I woke up to Jim Reeves He'll have to go playing in my dreams. RIP dad
Always reminds me of my dad bringing up 4 kids on his own, mum had left home ,must have been tough on him we were all early teens, I'd like to think he did a great job though xx love & miss you dad
I was so glad to see videos of Jim Reeves, his voice changed country music. I have listened to him forever and now I am so happy to be able to see him as well. Thanks so much!
I must have listened to Jim Reeves when I was very young because I vividly remember in third grade, as they were putting newspaper down on the table for a class party, I saw an article that he had died. I was devastated. I still can't get enough of his music. Just Beautiful. Catches your heart.
Four walls closing in on me..... So accurate, with this Covid going around, no one to see, no one to touch. Only 4 walls closing in on me. With the guidance of the mighty Lord, this too will end.
I grew up listing to Jim Reeves and old time country. I enjoy lots of differant music but always go back to old country when I need to feel closer to right.
He had a special technique of whispering right up to the mic, giving him the softest and mellow voice we all love and I for 1 wish he was still with us, RIP Jim, God Bless.
If I had a choice, I'd have this great man sing any of his songs at my funeral. The sound of his voice would be proof to anyone that heaven exists. K.J. Edmonton.
Wow. What a beautiful performance! My grandmother died when I was very small, but one thing I remember about her was telling me that Jim Reeves was her favourite singer, so I always have good associations with Reeves.
the voice is so beautiful and the obvious guitar sound from the lead on this is so definite a combo. I seriously enjoyed country growing up when rock was supposed to be it. I did like rock but as one of a few loved this to
I Would like to thank all who put Jim Reeves VIDEO AND SONG HERE ON YOUTUB it is nice see the Man And his music. Sometimes our "4 Walls" are the best place to "vent" your "frustrations" at to keep you from getting in severe trouble. Praise God for my own home. It happens quite a bit recently.
On this day in 1957 {April 29th} "Four Walls" by Jim Reeves entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; it eventually peaked at #11 and spent 22 weeks on the Top 100... And on May 27th, 1957 it reached #1 {for 8 weeks} on Billboard's Country & Western Singles chart... The record that succeeded it at #1 on the country chart was the Everly Brothers debut record, "Bye Bye Love"... R.I.P. Mr. Reeves {1923 - 1964}...
What I thought was being silly, singing Jim Reeves songs to my Mom, now brings tears to my eyes when I hear the songs. I miss my Mom still, whose been gone over 22 years. I guess losing Dad last year December and now being parentless makes me sappy during the holidays.
Love this song and how Jim does this he was one of my dads favorites and mine as I was growin up , Have a little family story about being related through the Swans in Texas . My grandmas been gone 50 years now and she loved him .Great sound Jim Im sure you are up there looking down.
MY MOTHER LOVED YOUR MUSIC. HER NAME IS IVA JO ROBINSON. SHE HAD A SMALL RADIO SHE PUT IN THE WINDOW ABOVE THE SINK. SHE WORKED AND SANG ALL DAY. I MISS HER VERY MUCH.
Jim Reeves was one of the finest vocalists of all time. What a voice! His death was a terrible loss to music. It's amazing to think that he, Patsy Cline, Sam Cooke, and Elmore James all died within the space of about a year.
I read the comments you made on the day of your father's funeral. I hope that the intervening month, small time though it is, has started to ease the pain of your loss. My dad, who died 22 years ago, was a pianist and a violinist, whenever I hear certain tunes, I think of dad. Dad's leaving this liv e was in it's time, and he passing years have given me acceptance, and the pain is replaced by the warmth of his memory. May that come soon to you. Condolences from George in Scotland
You are correct. Much country music is stereotyped as nasal vocalizing whereas many early country singers like Jim Ed Brown, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Don Gibson and Jim Reeves were smooth, full and open in singing style.
My mother used to listen to all his albums...she thought he was one of the most beautiful male voices of his time...Listening now I understand why she felt that way. He sung with such empathy and style. Miss the real country sound.

You don't hear the power in his voice on this one, but you hear a subtlety of thought I hadn't heard before. Bravo!
Fantastic voice .
It's one of the best songs I've ever heard In my life
His voice has never been duplicated. Some have come close, but he has it 100%
Very beautiful and wonderful old gospel songs. Very soothing to the mind. Thank you for sharing these songs.
One of the most beautiful songs by one of the best vocalists of the twentieth century. And everyone called him "Gentleman Jim"--because he was.

This and "is this me" are my favorite Jim Reeves songs, he had a voice smooth as silk.
The most beautiful voice ever to be heard from any ballad singer 'till times end.
Sometimes our "4 Walls" are the best place to "vent" your "frustrations" at to keep you from getting in severe trouble. Praise God for my own home. It happens quite a bit recently.

Just wonderful but everything Jim did was wonderful.

Can someone explain to me why country singers used to be able to sing, but now all sound the same? What a voice on Jim Reeves. What the hell happened.
Lol you ain’t the only one! One theory comes to mind is auto-tuning..and easier with country..
His smooth voice is unique - and his songs were it, too !
So sensitive... beautiful... this song was new for me... THANKS!
With Love,
Marilyn

What a great song and a fantastic singer
Jim is the Godfather of music (including Johnny Cash's although he we will never admit it). Pure, simple and timeless..
They were both great but Johnny Cash was the patriarchal country music after World War II

"The Gentleman" Jim Reeves. Wonderful in all that he did.
The best voice in country music, ever.
I read the comments you made on the day of your father's funeral. I hope that the intervening month, small time though it is, has started to ease the pain of your loss. My dad, who died 22 years ago, was a pianist and a violinist, whenever I hear

My favourite singer- velvet voice -superb musicians backing him with guitars.
The difference between Jim reeves and others is that while He whispers to the soul the others appeal to the flesh and intellect
So beautiful...like something i would play to my new born baby while he sleeps..
his voice is so peace full
I love his singing since I was a teen
Love it
I absolutely love Gentlmen Jim's music!!!!!!
What an effortless style - Just like Patsy Cline.... gifted
You are correct. Much country music is stereotyped as nasal vocalizing whereas many early country singers like Jim Ed Brown, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Don Gibson and Jim Reeves were smooth, full and open in singing style.
Jim Reeves was SUPER. I probably had 10 of his albums in the early 60's in college. Like Patsy Cline, taken before their time.
He was a fantastic singer!
