I hate this scene so much, I skip it every time. Idk why anyone would try to write rape in this way, even if Han Shou only threatened to- and I especially dislike the way the scriptwriters reasoned this with Han Shou suggesting something like 'what's happening to me I feel really aroused' when that's a common misconception of how most real-life cases of rape works. Then, after all this, the writers treated it like a blip. Qianqian never questions Han Shou for his actions, which is essentially condoning rape or threats of rape as Han Shou never faces consequences. I honestly really don't care what the reasoning is behind his actions; I only care that Qianqian was genuinely scared. I don't know how anyone could watch this episode without feeling absolutely disgusted and terrified for Qianqian. (side note, I still love the series, I just hated this scene of his in particular. I can pretend it just doesn't exist and go on loving Han Shou as a character, but I feel like this should be said) Thank you for listening to my TedTalk lmao *edit* - hi! it's been a whole year since I wrote this comment, and i'm so comforted to see that I'm not the only one who was really disturbed by this scene and to see everyone speak out about it- do it! keep speaking out and pushing back against questionable presentation in the media! it's so important that we make sure our voices are heard so that people understand that this isn't reality and really shouldn't be acceptable. although this doesn't mean that questionable characters with questionable actions should be wiped from the media, rather that it is important to actually acknowledge these actions as wrong. in the past year I've grown a lot and I've seen a few replies down below explaining why this rape threat scene was included (eg. for money, for laughs) and I now understand and completely agree, but it shouldn't be that way. media is such a powerful presence in our society and it can be both good and bad, so speak out and keep your voices heard guys, and keep pushing back no matter how minuscule a difference you make!
So true. I don't hate it that much that I have to skip it but I'm just always like "WHY? screenwriters Why?" Leave out the rape threat and everything is fine...
I don't know aside from this drama, which one have you watched but those kind of scenes in light novels and dramas are considered as a common plot device of sort. The explanation for such action is jealousy and possessiveness, not any close to being aroused though (and most of the case, the writers just left it like that since they assumed the female leads would be understanding of such action and accepted to forgive). I don't know how to explain it better, but most of the time it would work like this: misunderstanding -> arguing and separation -> female lead getting close to the male support -> male lead felt cheated -> using the "so-called" action to mark his territory (would likely stopped before he passed the line, like just to scaring her off. What he care more, his ulterior motive is to provoke the male support) -> female leads (most of the time) would felt, of course resentment, but in the end letting it slide since the writers assumed she knew why he did it. Since it's a rom-com Cdrama, and confrontational scenes are rarely to be seen (again, since they assumed the female leads know why and we viewers also know why. They wouldn't do it. It's like an unspoken rules. Although there are some exceptional. Take "Goodbye, my princess" for example. The male lead is such a scumbag that he would go all the way to harassed the female male despite her crying and hating.
@@trang3567 I hope I'm not overreacting but this is genuinely something that means a lot to me, so I am going to press further; why does the man feel like they need to claim their territory through such a destructive way as rape? why do the two male leads even fight over the woman like she's a possession anyway? why is the 'rape threat' even used as a plot device? why does no one question this? fragile masculinity, threatened assault, objectification of women, one-sided male possessiveness... why is a genuine, worrying issue women have to face on a daily basis treated as okay in these dramas?
@@_ceriii9905 I don't know if you knew bout this but among Chinese light novels enthusiasts, the "dominant cold boss/ master and innocence, helpless maiden" is one hella popular dynamic. It's no different from good girl - bad boys troops and you can see how things go wrong there: Toxic relationships, trust issues and rage upon your partner (I'm talking about trash films like After, or Kissing Booths). It's not just about morality, it's about what the community wants, what benefits the investors, what earns them easy money. Over the time, I assume people are gaining more common sense and such inhuman cultural standard is dying, but it is not something that would change over a fortnight. I could understand your frustration since I myself don't like such kind of plot devices as well, but I guess the best thing I could do now is to avoid watching those kind of films and not giving them praises and supports. In case you want a better explanation, I suggest you binge-watch and compare Siege in Fog or Goodbye, my Princess (written by Fei W Si Cun, who is "infamous" for writing Sad Endings novels, AND using rape threats as a plot device. . Movies based on her novels, are highly rated tho) with Love is Sweet (all of them are dominant male leads - innocent female leads-inspired dynamics). Let just say the script writers of "Romance of Tiger and Rose" are learning but they can't escape the tempting of the money gain from cliche plots.

Don't think he meant he's 'aroused'. He's questioning why he still try to test whether she's lying, he should simply treat her as enemy and kill her
