The people who will suffer the most in the short term are the online outlets such as Sheppard Hills. In the long term Case and Zippo will suffer immensely if they don’t get the ship righted! No one wants to see that!!
Welcome to the "what happened to Case club". The nearest Case outlet to me is a 3 hour round trip and the last couple of trips there I received looks of disgust when I asked to look at a different knife because I had issues with the one they handed me. For what they want for a Case I can buy a couple of NOS knives from the 70's. At least the fit and finish on those knives don't disappoint me.

I feel the same about Case. I don't want to see them go out of business, but they need to make some changes in their manufacturing and QC departments. Unfortunately I don't even give Case a look anymore.
I love a lot of patterns and colors in the case lineup ! Especially the newer ones! I’ll continue to be a case fanboy, but just not with online purchases of new knives! Thank you sir for sharing your input and opinion. I truly appreciate that!
Definitely understand what you mean brother. Im about to this point as well. If i can't go to my local dealer and get hands on service then i dont even want to chance it. It really is sad to see the state of where case is at the moment. Really need a step up in the quality department 100%
Cornbread, this was a very interesting video my friend.. I'm a Case fan, I don't buy a lot but I've already sent one back to Case for repairs. They did repair it and in a timely fashion. But, I was a little upset that I had to send it back... Not sure if these issues will be corrected but I agree, it is probably best to go look at the knife before you buy it.. But, I got a mini trapper at Shepherd Hills and it was perfect.. Bought a soddy in person and a week later the gapping and blade wobble got worse and I had to send it back.. Some choosing error probably on my end.. Still love Case and I want more... LOL.. power of a brand!!! and that American heritage! Case has that going for them..

I have to agree with your assessment of Case quality control. I'm 71 years old and my first knife was a 1020-1940 Case. It is my grandfather's knife that came down to me through my dad. I've had it since I was about 10 years old. You can see it on my channel as the TOP DOG video. I've gathered a pretty good little handful of Cases over the years but 2 of the last 3 purchases have had problems. They are definitely not paying attention. BTW...sub'd your channel, brother!
Yeah, unfortunately you are correct. I looked at 3 of the exact same model mini trapper before I picked the best one. None of the 3 were even close to perfect but the one I picked was the best imo. It's sad really as I really love Case knives too!!
I ordered 5 case knives directly from case. They are perfect. The ones at tractor supply I have seen are acceptable. I said on another channel it doesn't matter what company it is today They are all sloppy and expensive

I’ve gotten defective Rough Ryder’s also but for what I’m paying and it being China made that’s easier to deal with than paying a premium for USA made and still getting sub par quality.

Buying a knife online is easy and convenient but that’s the downside when buying any knife brand online. I’ve never had a problem with any case knife or any other knife brand when I actually went to a store and picked the knife out. Yes Case quality control definitely needs to improve but it is and always will be my first choice for slipjoint knives. USA made still means a lot to me I do buy knives from China RoseCraft blades I love and they are great quality they are China made. All knife brands have issues I recently after many months of deciding bought a Jack wolf knife a USA company that knives are made in China and are not cheap $300 plus had problems with the blade and they do not warrant there knives not like case does basically you buy a Jack wolf knife and if something is wrong with it your screwed. Even expensive knives have problems the thing that I make sure of now is the warranty if a company has a good warranty that’s the company I will buy from because you can have a problem with any knife brand . I only currently own 3 Case knives, 2 of the 3 are in impeccable condition, one has a slightly offset blade. However, since it's the base model Sodbuster Jr, I forgive Case for the minor flaw. I do agree with you though, based on what I've seen from many, many others in the community who's shown absolutely shameful examples of poor quality with Case; they really need to pull up their socks. When I look at a company like Victorinox who hammers out millions of knives per year, with very few major quality defects leaving the plant; you can't tell me Case is not able to do the same?!! 🤔High production is not a valid excuse for poor quality. I have said it for a long time... I wish companies would pull out so many units from each batch with NO FACTROY SHARPENING... with spyderco I would literally pay 10% more for each model if I could get one with no factory edge. Factory sharpenings aren't ever good (sure they can be OK but I mean good, good to my standards they aren't even close) or even near what my standards of a decent edge are... the best sharpening on the knife is the first one, that's when your at the best geometry and that first edge is the one that's gonna cut the best but instead we get waves, lop sided, burnt/over heated, mismatched angles and so on and so forth. Just sell me the knife with no secondary bevel on the knife and I will happily pay more for them to pull some out of the production line to not get sharpened.
I use the heck out of my knives. There are many collectors that do just that . Either way Is cool in my book ! As long as you get a product worthy of collecting!
The absolute worst knife I’ve ever owned from all companies I have was a Case Tony Bose. It was the large back pocket trapper (corn cob jig I think it was called). Blade rub…check, gapping…check, off center…oh hell yes check, blade wobble when open…checkamundo! I keep commenting on SMKW whenever they show a new Case is the QC needs major improvement!
I understand there’s a difference in our currency, but a Case here in Canada costs over a 150 dollars with tax, for that price it better be perfect. I have held a couple and they are definitely a good looking knife, but the price is rediculous! 👍🇨🇦🇺🇸
I bought a Case knife online a couple months ago and when I received it, the carbon steel blade was bent and warped. I sent it to Case to have the blade replaced. They sent the knife back to me 6 weeks later and they never did anything with it. The knife they sent me was the same exact knife I sent to them! I emailed their customer service over a week ago and they still haven’t gotten back to me. I’m done with Case.
I’ve bought quite a few new Case knives but don’t want any more because I’ve got way too many with these kinds of issues. There’s an unacceptable high number of quality issues….
I only buy knives from Case that i can touch. So all the really cool ones are not for sale at Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops. Sadly enough there are no places around here that have cases full of knives except wahlmark. I live in a town of 200,000 people too.
Obviously not on this scale. Zippo made some good quality simple knives under their brand but the behemoth that is Case seems to be out of their league. I’ve gotten a couple of hate mails from fanboys over this , and I simply state that Case doesn’t make as many knives in a year as Victorinox makes in a week! Victorinox stays in their lane and knows what they are good at. They produce millions of knives of exact quality per year and quality issues are unheard of! Meanwhile Case isn’t even putting out their bread and butter knives with acceptable quality, yet they want to break into moderns and super steel knives . Someone needs to tell Case and more importantly Zippo that when you’re in a hole that’s over your head, it’s time to stop digging!!!!

I handled 4 that day and the one I sent you was the only one outta the bunch that would lock. The liner was too short to reach the tang on the rest of em. Since then I vowed the same thing...not buying a case sight unseen. Maybe they'll get their stuff together one day. Maybe they wont...who knows really?
Ill never stop buying Case knives, but I wish they'd do better. I only buy in person or on ebay where I can see pics and ask the seller specific questions.
I agree with you. If you’re going to spend that amount of money you ought to make sure it’s up to your standards not anyone else’s. I bought my longhouse off of eBay like most of my knives. But most of my knives are used so my expectations arn’t like a new knife. I’ve been burnt on there on several knives but I see eBay as a gamble most times anyway. My problem is there’s no case dealers within a hour of me. I’ve been debating on opening a knife store in my area. Just getting the funds to do so. Of course I’d sell online 😂.

Yeah they don't care about their quality they have recently stated that. I think they completely fell off some time 2019 imo. Zippo has made some great knives especially back in the 90s. Not the Case anymore 😂 have a blessed day my friend. As far as TB goes I wouldn't count on Case to give a crap about the quality on those either especially since his passing Case can do it as is just like they did it the last 100 years its definitely the management of the company not the workers not being able to make quality knives. I would love to see Case turn the corner and get back to making quality American knives! They’re still out there, but now you have to be careful and sift through the junk to find the treasure!
Gorgeous knives but I agree last 3 I have got some sort quality issue so I dont know what happened. I love case knives myself but man when will it stop 😂. I feel like there just surviving on there name. Great video and yeah eventually people will quit carrying them. Nice job brother a step towards getting attention out there. A lot that used to be full us made only have a few still made in America.
Knife quality has gone down over the years. As the price goes up and it enters the realm of boutique/custom knives the market will have to correct in some fashion. Yes Taylor Blades killed Scharade and several other lines at the same time. He was supposed to move the equipment to East Tennessee and produce them there and it all ended up in China. I haven’t carried a slip joint in a long time but I do appreciate the quality of the old ones in many brands. I felt that Case going stainless was a bad move. Now they are trying to bring some of the carbon steel back.
A lot of talk about CASEXX knives in the community …they don’t have much to fix, but when the Knife Brotherhood talks about them…it carries a lot of weight
I am not exaggerating -- the last five Case knives I bought were dull and couldn't cut through paper. And yes I've bought perfect knives from other companies -- all the way from Rough Ryders to Jack Wolf knives.
I work in a factory environment though its completely different than Case but speaking from my experience over time, if Case is experiencing the same turnover and quality of employees that we have been getting the past few years combined with rising labor costs and such...I don't know if I see it getting any better unfortunately. We are in a sad state of decline. Sorry to be a downer. Have a nice day😊
Case has been terrible with QC for like 10 years now. Go to a store that sells them and half thr ones in the case the shields will be gone because they fall off. I won't buy case unless it's 2nd hand pieces that are at least 15 years old.
Cornbread ... the simple fact is ... the term "quality control" is neither understood nor practiced by most US companies .. but not even taught in "skohl" or work training. Preaching to the choir ... but thanks. Enjoy Blade 2024 (I can't ... but am going to a Case Family Tour event. And maybe buy one ....). BUT ... I'm only buying AFTER I've had in hand. 😉.

I’m not gonna say you’re wrong, cause you’re not. Personally I don’t buy case knives online either, eBay being the exception and only for knives where I’m seeing pics of the actual knife I’m getting. I like to buy from flea markets and antique stores and knife shops and I have a bunch of great case blades. Certainly it’s something case could do better at, but it’s definitely not gonna turn me into a Rough Rider fan by any means. China knives just don’t give me a sense of pride of ownership, I know that RR can make a decent knife for the price, but I’m never proud to have one in my pocket or show one off, and I guess a shitty case knife would be the same way but I don’t have many of those, every RR I’ve ever bought was a dud. Bad luck maybe, but my luck has been better with case knives at least the way I buy them.
That’s why hearing opinions is important! I can respect that. My experience has been the exact opposite. I’ve never gotten a Rough Rider that was junk. 50% of the knives I’ve bought new from case over the last 8 years had to be sent back and were absolute trash.
I’ve done that as well. But you have the same problem. If you order a certain pattern and color, a stick person grabs the next one in the stack. It may be great or it may be a trainwreck!

NOS is the abbreviation for New Old Stock. I just picked up 2 Schrade in the original box (70's) for less than the price of a new Case

Someone needs to tell Case and more importantly Zippo that when you’re in a hole that’s over your head, it’s time to stop digging!!!!
@@Hunting4HookersI think your reply has pretty much said it, most companies out there have cut quality to increase profits 📈 but like so many companies thats went out of business after they milked people all they could they blame the economy instead of bad business practices. I too hope Case gets straight again before its to late.
@@Hunting4Hookers well , that's unfortunate. I've had similar experiences. I think I told you about that russlock. I handled 4 that day and the one I sent you was the only one outta the bunch that would lock. The liner was too short to reach the tang on the rest of em. Since then I vowed the same thing...not buying a case sight unseen. Maybe they'll get their stuff together one day. Maybe they wont...who knows really?

Ill never stop buying Case knives, but I wish they'd do better. I only buy in person or on ebay where I can see pics and ask the seller specific questions.

I agree with you. If you’re going to spend that amount of money you ought to make sure it’s up to your standards not anyone else’s. I bought my longhouse off of eBay like most of my knives. But most of my knives are used so my expectations arn’t like a new knife. I’ve been burnt on there on several knives but I see eBay as a gamble most times anyway. My problem is there’s no case dealers within a hour of me. I’ve been debating on opening a knife store in my area. Just getting the funds to do so. Of course I’d sell online 😂.

I would not by a new Case. Mainly because i can't afford one lol. I will own a used Case knife or if i won one so don't take it wrong lol. You are paying for a name only. Case brothers and family sold the company decades ago.

Yeah they don't care about their quality they have recently stated that. I think they completely fell off some time 2019 imo. Zippo has made some great knives especially back in the 90s. Not the Case anymore 😂 have a blessed day my friend.
As far as TB goes I wouldn't count on Case to give a crap about the quality on those either especially since his passing
Case can do it as is just like they did it the last 100 years its definitely the management of the company not the workers not being able to make quality knives.
GEC makes crap too as you say everyone makes a little crap Case just makes more.
Regardless ill can a China knife for fun over a crappy case all day. 😁

Gorgeous knives but I agree last 3 I have got some sort quality issue so I dont know what happened. I love case knives myself but man when will it stop 😂. I feel like there just surviving on there name. Great video and yeah eventually people will quit carrying them. Nice job brother a step towards getting attention out there. A lot that used to be full us made only have a few still made in America.

Knife quality has gone down over the years. As the price goes up and it enters the realm of boutique/custom knives the market will have to correct in some fashion. Yes Taylor Blades killed Scharade and several other lines at the same time. He was supposed to move the equipment to East Tennessee and produce them there and it all ended up in China. I haven’t carried a slip joint in a long time but I do appreciate the quality of the old ones in many brands. I felt that Case going stainless was a bad move. Now they are trying to bring some of the carbon steel back.
I totally agree buddy! As that market correction happens the old stuff will get astronomically more expensive and the new stuff will get more shoddy.
A lot of talk about CASEXX knives in the community …they don’t have much to fix, but when the Knife Brotherhood talks about them…it carries a lot of weight

I am not exaggerating -- the last five Case knives I bought were dull and couldn't cut through paper. And yes I've bought perfect knives from other companies -- all the way from Rough Ryders to Jack Wolf knives.
It’s a shame ! If Case and Zippo don’t wake up, they are in for some big issues!
I work in a factory environment though its completely different than Case but speaking from my experience over time, if Case is experiencing the same turnover and quality of employees that we have been getting the past few years combined with rising labor costs and such...I don't know if I see it getting any better unfortunately. We are in a sad state of decline. Sorry to be a downer. Have a nice day😊

Case has been terrible with QC for like 10 years now. Go to a store that sells them and half thr ones in the case the shields will be gone because they fall off. I won't buy case unless it's 2nd hand pieces that are at least 15 years old.

I can't afford the cost of these "high end" knives. But i have looked at them and thay cannot compare to the quality of an older Case knife.

Absolutely, I'm not a fan of Chinese knives. But Kershaw, Rough Rider and so many others are producing consistent quality at a fraction of the cost.

I’m not gonna say you’re wrong, cause you’re not. Personally I don’t buy case knives online either, eBay being the exception and only for knives where I’m seeing pics of the actual knife I’m getting. I like to buy from flea markets and antique stores and knife shops and I have a bunch of great case blades. Certainly it’s something case could do better at, but it’s definitely not gonna turn me into a Rough Rider fan by any means. China knives just don’t give me a sense of pride of ownership, I know that RR can make a decent knife for the price, but I’m never proud to have one in my pocket or show one off, and I guess a shitty case knife would be the same way but I don’t have many of those, every RR I’ve ever bought was a dud. Bad luck maybe, but my luck has been better with case knives at least the way I buy them.

Case over Rough Rider any day. Case quality may not be perfect but in my opinion they are still better than RR......

My experience has been the exact opposite.
I’ve never gotten a Rough Rider that was junk.
50% of the knives I’ve bought new from case over the last 8 years had to be sent back and were absolute trash.

I’ve done that as well. But you have the same problem.
If you order a certain pattern and color, a stick person grabs the next one in the stack.
It may be great or it may be a trainwreck!
