My review of the new Grandpa Beck’s version of the trick taking game called Skull King that has the legendary expansion built in. I also compare it to the Schmidt Spiel version which I used to recommend as the version to buy.

Thanks for giving our updated version of Skull King another look. I know all of us at Grandpa Beck's Games are willing to take feedback and when you redue games and make the needed changes. Also thank you for your apology of who created skull king first. Not many people notice Brent Beck on the top of their box which is my father Grandpa Beck.

Grandpa Beck’s is really raising their game lately. No pun intended! The new art for this game is great and Antiquity Quest is also very nice
Thanks to your previous review, this has become a family favorite game. I had a chance to play this new version on the Dice Tower Cruise, and like it a bit better.

Another element that you left out of the review is that the numbers now go up to 14, and those cards are worth 10 points extra at the end of the round (and 20 points extra for the Jolly Roger trump suit!), if you capture them and hit your bid. What I love about that little extra point grab is that it makes bidding 0 slightly weaker. In the previous version if you got too far behind you were practically forced to go for a zero-or-nothing strategy, but those little extra points from other sources help mitigate that a bit... I much prefer the artwork on the other version, but I LOVE the new gameplay elements of this version. Great review otherwise :)

My favorite trick taker, but the Schmidt version art is STILL way better.
But, they copied the mermaids which was needed plus has a few extras. If I need to replace my game, I'll get the new one.
Yes I wouldn't need to get this if you already have it, but replacing it with this one s a good idea when needed!
I agree with you all around! I have all three BUT we always end up playing the original Scheming & Skullking, because we know it so well. I need to get this one to the table (my family is resistant to new, it's a thing)
